It just goes to show that Chris Pratt did a great job as Mario, we get a version of the character closer to what Nintendo originally envisioned before Charles Martinet auditioned for the role. And seeing how Mario's dad give the son the approval is almost like 'passing the torch' which is very nice since we are likley going to have more Movies after this.

I really enjoyed this movie! I’ve seen it twice and I still love it quite a bit. The animation is stunning, Mario and Luigi’s bond is precious, the voice acting is good, Peach is a badass, the climax is a blast, and of course, Jack Black Bowser is a gift from God! Unfortunately, the rushed pacing, thin plot, and lack of character development do kinda hold it back . This movie is just *WAY TOO FAST!* it’s only an hour and 20 minutes, once you take out the credits and feels like it never has any room to breathe because it’s more interested in shoving various Mario references in your face, rather than telling a compelling story. And I love the references, don’t get me wrong. I think they’re all very cute and clever, but I really wish the story took its time, instead of moving at the speed of a Super Star. And even tho the characters are enjoyable, I feel like Mario and Donkey Kong are the only characters who go through any development. Toad is just along for the ride and Luigi gets sidelined hard, which is a shame. I also wish Mario and Donkey Kong’s rivalry wasn’t resolved so quickly. When they’re in the eel and it looks to they’ve gonna have a heart-to-heart moment expressing their feelings, but instead, they just blast out with a rocket barrel. SMH! And Mario and Bowser definitely should have more moments smack talking each other, as their confrontation was a bit underwhelming. But overall, it’s still a very solid movie and definitely one of the better movies from Illumination, if not *the* best Illumination movie. Hopefully, the sequel will improve upon what this movie set up. If we get one, that is, but I’m sure we will, as this movie has grossed over a billion dollars at the box office. Anyway, 9/10!
