I am younger--I know many of these songs because my siblings were both music nuts. By early '92 I lost half the family. Dad died in '99. Thankfully my brother is still here. It's so odd, I remember having Marines come into my 2nd or 3rd grade class to talk about Vietnam. I remember the war, the assassinations, the gas wars, the bombings...but as a little kid remembers them. I somehow always knew I wasn't responsible for the bad and with songs I can close my eyes and remember Mom & big sister as they were then. It's painful, but better than forgetting. Thanks Mr. Peaslee for putting those thoughts & feelings down in a more artful way than I ever could.

Why would you have paid attention to the song in our youth? Youth is about living in the here and now and trying to enjoy all the new experiences. It is only as we are older and reflect do we realise all the things we have lost. We can feel sad because we are older, but that is the whole point of life - to experience, reflect and give the new generations the chance to form their own memories.

@@Handleviz not necessarily, there’s some really good stuff out there. The problem is that the music industry has progressed so much. People got sick of the old way and moved on to more free music forms, that allow for a wider array of topics and are easier to get into. People got bored of the sentimental songs of yesteryear and wanted something new that better suited the progressive youth culture. In comes the music about sex and violence. People got desensitized.

What a beautiful melancholic song, wish we could turn back time and be kinder to our loved ones who have passed on, we are here for just a short journey, we ll see them again over on the other side, so lets be kinder daily to the people around us while they are around...this world will become a more beautiful place....

@FightsatJim’splace You just made Debbie's point loud and clear. No respect or care for others including their thoughts and opinions. May you have a better day than the day on which you posted this insulting remark.
@dianerobinson53364 жыл бұрын
@Debbie Scott I couldn't agree more with your well stated thoughts. It's so sad that many people these days can't see beyond the nose on their own faces. No compassion, no empathy. If it doesn't concern them or those within their bubble, it matters not.

I hadn't heard this song in ages, and then I left the doctor's office after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I never thought a song could hit me like a sledge hammer.
@ACF6180T2 жыл бұрын
I hope your winning the fight ! I was diagnosed 7/17/ 2018 ampulary cancer which is a form of pancreatic cancer which was located in the tip of the lower duct ! & is the rarest form of pancreatic cancer , I survived the whipple procedure the surgery took 8 .5 hours ! & I was told by my surgeon that it's the most complicated surgery in the world which it is ! prior to the surgery , The only organ I lost was the gallbladder ! I went thru 6 months of chemo which was the toughest part for me watching people around me fighting to stay alive , & not make it , as well as those who just quit wanting to live , & let go of there life ! This is a road that none of us want to be on , & no matter how much encouragement you get it is a road that you must travel alone , I have 8 more months to go to be considered cancer free ! In the beginning my oncologist told me I only had a 50/50 chance of surviving ! I'm still scared ! It is a road of uncertainty but I know this road is one way ! & there is no turn around , I just hope , & pray that I make to the T in road then I'll know were to go from there . But it is life that I choose I just wish there was more certainty , But such is life ! I'll pray for You Ray ! & Godspeed to your recovery🛐.

I'm 72 in Nam I was a Navy Corpsmen. Those poor young Marines that I help. My God this song bring it back to me. Sad very Sad indeed. WAR is never going to end. It's a Business and the worst kind. The only Peace is within us. We were given a special gift and we just wasted on hurting one another. It's a darn gone pitty. God bless all of you out there.
