Sometimes this track can be a hard listen because it's constantly raising tension the whole time. There is no resolve. Which is understandable that some people are just not looking for that. But if your in the mood for 10 minutes of constant action packed chaos, this song is it.

I'm a big fan of Horror Volta, which Day of the Baphomets seems to lean into. The tones and cryptic, often haunting poetry do a great job of implying there's something sinister just beneath (Bedlam in Goliath turned this subtext into text). And it does this all without really sounding like "horror" anything which is...mesmerizing to me

The percussionists/bongos are played by Omar's brother, Marcel. When he plays the bongos live, it is super intense! He is an amazing drummer in his own right and plays in several of Omar's solo albums but can also be found in the band he and his brothers had formed called Zechs Merquise (instrumental experimental rock jam band). He also played keyboard for Zechs before drumming, but then his younger brother Rico took over that part. Marcel also played keyboard for the later part of TMV and on stage and in some of Omar's solo projects as well. Currently Marcel has really been focusing on his solo project as Eureka The Butcher doing electronic music.

Indeed, Amputechture is hard to listen. Lots of repetitive riffs, tritones and a hell of a chaos unique in their discography. In my opinion it's one of their best albums, after FTM it was really logical to expect a even more complex and high organized album. Luckily they defied expectations and came with this madness that sort of reminds Magma and King Crimson. Unbelievable, Amputechture is one of a kind. Fun fact: Amputechture, a mix between Amputation and Architecture, symbolizes the band itself since it's in construction (architecture) and deconstruction (amputation).

Same. I think it’s easier to enjoy if you compose or produce. Listening to this on headphones is like an audio candy shop. I’ll never forget the day I sat down to listen to it when it came out. It’s not an album I often show to people, but despite Deloused being my favorite, I think this one is the most well rounded, song writing and production wise. The good ideas never stop on this record. Especially the guitar riffs.

Its so interesting to me how every Volta fan has a different list of favorites. For me, it goes something like: Frances Amputechture Noctourniquet The Mars Volta Bedlam in Goliath Deloused Octahedron Ive never understood the love for Deloused. It was a good debut album, but its the only album of theirs that is comparable to another. Frances. And i think Frances literally does everything Deloused does, but better.

@@alibabaschultz352I just wish they released it under a different moniker. I don't hear TMV at all from that album. It's fine for what it is, but it's not them (to me). Octahedron as a "pop album" works. Self-titled does absolutely nothing for me on a prog rock level, which is why I'm left feeling empty. I go to TMV for challenging, complex, chaotic, yet beautiful music.

Regarding the lyrics, I read somewhere that Cedric likes to convey a feeling through his lyrics rather than an exact meaning. Since I love to analyze lyrics, that lets me "experiment" with different meanings and stories for them in my mind. And yes, this song was hard to get into, but now it's one of my favorites from them!

Read the story of what Deloused is about. You won’t be able to stop yourself from diving in once you realize it’s a concept record about a dear friend of theirs who committed suicide. Each song is another chapter of this tragic poor guy, ending with his swan dive off an overpass into rush hour traffic. The album itself was unprecedented at the time, and still holds up. Probably the best debut album from a band ever.

After a nice long break, I would suggest a few tracks from Noctourniquet, their final release. At their final stages, they made a play at a more conventional record. "Conventional", as only TMV can do. Many fans want you to dive into the more acceptable albums, but I think the contrast would be welcome considering what you have heard from them thus far.

The Baphomet isn't evil. It's a symbol of fertility, unity, and balance. Unfortunately it was adopted by the Knights Templar, and then Christianity labeled it as "evil" and "forbidden." I guess the image of a goat person with female human breasts bothers some people. It's just an image of an idea and concept, nothing more.
