you should listen either relationship of command or frances the mute next. relationship is a near perfect post-hardcore album while frances is basically more of the conceptual prog-rock craziness of deloused -but pushed to a new extreme in all fronts. both are incredible testaments to the immense musical talents of these guys. definitely check them out!

In case you haven't read the all the other comments, this group started as a band called At The Drive-In. They were a kind of indie/hardcore band that slowly grew more and more polished with each album (not that being raw is necessarily a bad thing). Their last album, Relationship Of Command, is a slept on banger. Imagine the album you just heard but with less prog noodling. I really recommend it. I mean that. It's really good. I don't know how to drive this point home without resorting to all caps ranting. It's fucking good. After that album, the bland split in half. The one half that wanted to stick with a more hardcore sound went on to become Sparta. They had a decent enough first album called Wiretap Scars and then things didn't really turn out too good after that. Wiretap is good enough to check out but it's not exactly mind blowing. The other half of the band, including the vocalist and lyricist, went on to form Mars Volta. Eventually ATDI reformed but I haven't really looked into it that much. From what I hear, it's not exactly must-listen material. For my taste, this album and their follow up, Francis The Mute, are Mars Volta at their best. After that things get a bit hit and miss for me but that's just my opinion. It might also be worthwhile to check out ATDI's debut album, Acrobatic Tenement to hear how their sound evolved. That album was also partly inspired by the death of the same friend that inspired Deloused. So in summary, please do a reaction to Relationship Of Command and Francis The Mute and maybe Acrobatic Tenement but I imagine this is already a lot.

As other fine subs have mentioned - check out At The Drive-In, from Cedric, the vocalist, and Omar, the guitarist. My band - I was so young haha - opened for The Mars Volta back in the day, in London, it was quite an experience. Omar even gave me a guitar lesson. The lad you talk of who sadly lost his life was Jeremy, he used to add vox and would add effects and manipulate Cedric's vox from the sound booth. Cedric would have a stack of effects pedals in the ATD-I days, which you can see in many live vids. Hope you enjoy, mate!

recs: Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles (Sick sounding early 90s math/indie rock, awesome guitar tone) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)

Heyo Smags, big fan of your content and big love towards you and all that you do 🫶 I have a request..... could you by any chance review the album 'I Need To Start A Garden' by Hayley Heynderickx? Its her 2018 debut, and IMO its one of the most underrated and overlooked folk albums of the last decade - I barely saw anyone cover it. Besides, shes dropping her sophomore album next week (same day as the new Mount Eerie) and I thought itd be really cool to see at least one major reactor give Hayley the attention she deserves ☺️
