First time I saw Ween live was on the White Pepper tour. Personally, I feel that this album is the absolute height of Ween's songwriting, and it, combined with The Mollusk and quebec, are the "now that we've played so many styles, let's just combine everything we've learned" trilogy.
@ZenixRulezАй бұрын
you are the man a few recommendations: songs - Adrianne Lenker (folk, singer-songwriter) Ghosts of the Great Highway - Sun Kil Moon (folk rock, singer-songwriter, alt-country) SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)

You mentioned the Beatles influence quite a bit, the name White Pepper is actually a combination of the White Album and Sgt. Pepper!

I was a late adopter of White Pepper, but it really took me by surprise! Ween has a funny way of being total goofballs one minute, then hitting you with some shockingly heartfelt shit the next. Glad you liked this one. Now where's that Animal Collective Sung Tongs??

Shinola Vol. 1 is very underrated IMO, although it is technically a compilation album, it’s a compilation of unreleased Ween material through the years and stands as my 5th (4th?) favorite album. It also sets up the brown trilogy (GWS, The Pod, Pure Guava) well.
@WildLifezАй бұрын
Love it. Love your ween reactions and now that you've heard the most polished ween, you can dig into their first 3 records which are the most "brown" but also you can see signs of genius songwriting and bits of melodic beauty that truly show how much greater they became. But theere's some gems on the first few albums and they're a lot of fun and some great dark comedy too. Look forward to The Pod, GodWeenSatan, Pure Guava, hell there's even the country album too. Lots of fun to look forward to! :)
@isaiahromero9861Ай бұрын
I dont agree with the sentiment that their early albums are worse (or better) than their later albums. Music is subjective after all, but those first three albums also just have their own appeal entirely. Those albums are the reason i love ween tbh
@WildLifezАй бұрын
@@isaiahromero9861 I love old Ween too. I love all Ween. Pure Guava especially of the first 3 is pretty dope as I feel it's a little* more accessible and less scotchguard-ish, but the others have some great moments. I'm not hating on it at all, and as you say yourself it's subjective, I just think they really perfected their craft in an almost undeniable way if you listen to a song on The Pod and then Quebec, you can really see the progression in their production, vocals and lyricism & maturity. Again, just my opinion, I think the fun, experimental silly Ween is a lot of fun and great too at the right moment. But overall, I love Quebec, The Mollusk, White Pepper and Chocolate & Cheese the most by far. Shinola is also pretty underrated. The Pod grew on me it's got some slammers, it's just a little sludgy at times, GWS maybe my least favorite but also has some moments that shine like Squelch The Weasel (Sounds like a song that could be on C&C). Again, subjective, just my opinion. I'm a big fan of their later more chill stuff tbh,.

I’ve been a fan of WEEN since I heard Chocolate & Cheese in 94, seen them over 20 times on stage, have travelled far to see them and even though they play the same songs it’s never not been amazing. Unfortunately they are on hiatus from touring but hopefully they get back in 2025 and you must, MUST see them live to get the vibe completely.
@isaiahromero9861Ай бұрын
The only downside to seeing them live is the crowd. For some reason they have a lot of fanbase crossover with bands like the greatful dead and phish, and those fanbases can be absolutely insufferable sometimes.
@domenicgalata1470Ай бұрын
@ Really depends on the city but for the most part you are right. But it could be worse of course. I saw a shift from the 90’s crowds into the 00’s and current that’s for sure. The merch fiends and those that insist on being right at the stage as early as possible is one thing that irks me.
@isaiahromero9861Ай бұрын
@domenicgalata1470 that's true, I live in Denver so that's probably part of it lmao
@domenicgalata1470Ай бұрын
@ I flew in to Denver in 2016 from Toronto with a friend who I’ve been going to every show with for the Three Night Reunion shows in Broomfield. First time visiting Denver and I really enjoyed it, the city has a very cool vibe. The shows were epic but the crowd definitely had the element you are talking about. And one day, I hope to see Ween at Red Rocks but if that’s not in the cards I have to see a show there. Maybe King Gizzard on their next tour…. That’s another fanbase with some weirdos. 🤣
@isaiahromero9861Ай бұрын
@@domenicgalata1470 yea I love Denver but the wooks are literally everywhere lol. Some of them can be chill but I don't enjoy being surrounded by them, especially the smell 🤢 Ween is definitely worth seeing though regardless of the crowd. And yea if you get an opportunity to see ANY cool show at Red Rocks you should definitely go for it. I'm sad that I missed the South Park thing with Ween and Primus but I've seen some incredible shows there, it's such a unique venue. I saw Kraftwerk there a few years ago and that was amazing. They don't book a lot of good shows in my opinion (it's mostly EDM) but king gizz would definitely be cool to see there

Polvo soon 👀Tilebreaker will blow your mind. recs: Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles (Sick sounding early 90s math/indie rock, awesome guitar tone) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
