I love this movie. I watch it donating platelets with the Red Cross of Long Beach California. It’s fast becoming my favorite movie

how long does it take to donate your platelets ( I suppose its blood plasma. the liquid not the red blood cells? )...when I donated plasma it only took a max of 40 minutes...... getting the blood pumped out and separated and then getting the red blood cells incl saline solution back in.

Max Noerenberg thanks. It takes about two hours-average. Platelets are a part of white blood cells. Platelets are a jagged blood component that help with blood clotting. Platelets are essential for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Some cannot produce enough platelets. Without enough platelets they could bleed to death. platelets are needed in all aspects of medical treatments. My favorite thing to do during that two hours-average is nap. I’ve been doing it for so long I can squeeze the rubber ball every ten seconds in my sleep. Recently, not napping, my favorite movie to watch is The Martian.

Max Noerenberg Used is a machine that uses centrifugal force to separate heavier red blood cells from white blood cells. It is spun to do the separation. The blood is extracted from one arm, the separated blood cells are returned to the other arm(minus the desired platelets). There is a single needle machine utilizing one arm, one needle the Red Cross doesn’t seem to use as much as in the past. There is a hospital I occasionally donate with that utilizes the single needle method. It extracts and returns blood with one needle. According to the Red Cross the single needle method is more time consuming. And, I think more blood products are extracted with two needles, one in each arm.
