My grandfather was in a bad motorcycle crash and had to get a blood transfusion. My grandmother who was a Jehovah's witness adamantly told the doctor not to give him blood. The doctor told her it was the only way my grandfather would live but she told him no. The doctor went ahead and gave him the blood and he lived. I'm thankful to that doctor everyday for saving my grandfather.

The horrible realization that I am coming to lately is that this religion actually does believe in child sacrifices. In the way they have the gall to produce this video and that 1993 Awake ( i believe) with all the martyred children on the cover who were sick and refused blood and the child sex abuse proceedings. Fractions of blood require large amounts of blood to be processed. The "WHITE WASHED TOWER BUILT WITH UNTEMPERED MORTAR" would never allow this because it takes time away from field service. I was an unbaptised 17 year old and having lost over half the blood in my body the doctor said I would die if I didn’t have blood. I didn’t want to die so I agreed but my JW mother was so disappointed in me. She was standing over me in my hospital bed trying to persuade me to be strong etc. I think she would have preferred to have had the opportunity to bask in the glory and attention she would have received at the Kingdom Hall that her daughter died being loyal to jehovah and the organisation. I have to say I didn’t feel remotely guilty afterwards and never regretted my decision for one moment.

As I watched this video, I was thinking about my daughter. I was a witness years ago and I gave birth to twins while a witness. I left when my twins were 4 and I also had an infant daughter. Years later, when one of my twins was 13, she needed surgery as a result of scoliosis. This was a complicated surgery that took about 12 hours. Two titanium rods were placed in her back to straighten her spine. Doctors had told us that she would absolutely need blood during the surgery. Although I had not been a witness for years at this point, I still kept thinking back to the brothers at the hall constantly telling us how horrible blood transfusions were. My daughter had the surgery, needed several pints of blood, and I am extremely happy with the outcome. There was no way I was going to let my daughter live her entire life with a crooked spine just because of the way someone years ago interpreted the Bible. I have never regretted our decision to allow my daughter to get blood. Not for one second.

Lloyd, we hosted a family that came to our city for open heart surgery for their 7 year old son, Sean. They refused blood of course and their little boy died. We had to help them take care of all the cremation arrangements. The mother went back to Alaska and committed suicide. I’ve never been able to get that little boy’s face out of my mind. Horrible, just horrible.

I have never told anyone this, but I consented to a blood transfusion for my son. He didn't need one after all, but I just refused to let the need of a blood transfusion kill him. I felt if anyone found out I would just take the punishment. That would have been better in my eyes, then letting my son die. My dad did ask where his "no blood bracelet" was, I just shrugged my shoulders. I know he knew...he was and still is an elder. He never said anything about it again. I'm just thankful to CPS for stepping in and taking emergency medical custody over my nephew. If not I would not have had a young adult nephew.

My grandmother who is a JW had heart surgery about 6 years ago, since she only speaks Spanish I was the translator when the Dr was getting her consent papers and explaining her the procedure. By the Time she was asked if there was complications would you be ok with a blood transfusion I had to translate, guess what I said?! I said YES! she will take the blood transfusion if it comes to that! Then my grandma asked me "Jenny you told him no blood transfusion right? " and I said Yes grandma I told them no blood! LIKE WHY WOULD I LET MY GRANNY DIE FOR SOME STUPID RULE I DONT KNOW WHO MADE? Shes just a poor blind sheep following them. Thank you Lloyd for your coverage of this absolutely sickening story. My husband had Lymphoma, and thanks to 2 blood transfusions along with a talented team of oncologists, he is in full remission. Lymphoma is one of the types of cancer that is the most treatable. These parents make me sick. I can’t see past my anger to feel compassion for them. You are absolutely spot on in hoping that they never wake up, because this indeed will be unsurvivable if they ever do. To have the knowledge that their innocent son could have been easily saved, if not for a Doomsday Cult twisting scripture and playing “Spokespersons for God”. Disgusting. Man this hits too close to home. I lost my twin brother when we were one year old because my mother refused to consent to a blood transfusion, he was suffering from the symptoms of sickle cell anemia. I probably wouldn't be here either if not for my non JW father who intervened when I started showing the same symptoms months later. As much as I hate the JW organization now, it hurts my heart that the day my mother ever stops believing, is the day she'll have to admit she murdered her own son.

I can't even imagine loosing one of my children or Grand children. Thank you for bringing this development to our attention. I have worked on this issue for more than 20 years at ajwrb.org. I've held the hand of JW's who died prematurely because of this policy on multiple occasions. I helped carry the casket of one fifteen year old JW, and saw my own grandmother die prematurely because of the policy. I have another immediate JW family member facing this issue presently. This story is about as disturbing as it gets - even for someone like myself. Your wish that the parents not find out the truth about the policy reminded me of the story of Dieter Parczany, a former HLC Chairman and current member of AJWRB's leadership team. Dieter lost his eight year old son Manuel to Lymphoma. Manuel had a 75% chance of survival with blood, but he and his wife obeyed the Watchtower policy and sacrificed their child. It is a shockingly sad, depressing story which we struggled to edit and publish. I suspect this was intended as a message to JW parents who are inclined to cooperate with doctors to try and save their children. If so, it is a very unfortunate development, and would be the second signal we have seen that Watchtower is going the wrong direction with the policy. I suppose it is also possible that the legal department wants to get some material in the public record that shows they are disclosing the risks of following the policy that can be used to try to defend against lawsuits over the bad consequences of following the policy. There may be other things going on that we don't have a handle on, but it doesn't look good for Jehovah's Witnesses or their children. On a personal level, it simply breaks my heart. We clearly need to do more to try and save these kids from the ultimate form of child abuse.

Lloyd, thank you for taking the time to post this video. You are so right when you say that watching JW Broadcasting is a triggering event as is the case for many of us. So as I tend to avoid it I rely on your ever-watchful eye...thank you and sorry. I tell you, I was really hoping never to see this type of story of child martyrdom for the blood issue ever again. I was almost of the mind that the governing body had enough pressure on them putting so many children in danger with the two witness rule that making videos such as this would just be too much exposure. Quite frankly, I don't feel any real love coming out of that brother hosting this video I just see an automaton using this little boy's death as an easy way to manipulate the emotions of the zealously faithful. That poor kid... I feel sick inside for him.

For any current JW's - read the scriptures in Leviticus in context regarding blood... it is sacred because life is sacred -- when is the representation more important than the actual? The symbol of life worth losing life for? Also Leviticus says you can eat blood to save your life (17:15) it is just unclean... why would you eat an animal on the side of the road unless you were starving? And the bible allowed that exception... why would you die based on the opinions of unispired men when the bible you believe is inspired allows you to make your own decision?

Seeing him never be able to fulfill his dreams because of WT is just so tragic! But this real young boy lost his life because of a belief his parents held. A belief that has killed so many already. When I was in Canada before I became a witness one Greek witness lady came to my door with her husband. She told me they just came back from Greece from her mothers funeral and she was happy to know very soon they will be together again. I got so mad I threw her out. Next year I went to Greece to visit my family that’s where I found the truth. Not only she was happy and ok with her mothers death because of the Resurrection but she end up in a Psychiatric hospital for three months from the pain she was feeling and not excepting her mother’s death. Now for me that’s normal. So what those GB say it’s not what these people feel. Death hearts and on the top you can’t even express your feelings because if you do you are not strong in the truth. How many JW suffer because they lost someone and they are not Allow to grief. We are all Mentally sick because of all those dogmas and pressures .Jesus cry for his friend Lazaros knowing he will be Resurrected in minutes. But he didn’t cry for him but for his sisters when he show them crying with pain.

Alexandra Loukas thank you for sharing this. When I was a JW and in Greece at the Bethel construction we were there in 1987 until 1990. Two of the brothers who were working on the site died. One in an automobile accident he was I believe in his 30’s, maybe, I’m not sure. The other an accident at the site, he was only 18 years old. It happened pretty close to each other. After the car accident they actually brought the crushed car to the site. It was shocking the cold hearted manner of the brothers in charge, how they handled everything. It was the end of me. I had been enduring an abusive elder husband (physically and mentally) and the fact that we were actually told not to grieve for these young men and the way the brothers in charge acted like it was just another day. I physically started breaking down. I ended up having a nervous breakdown. Not long after that the brothers sent us back to the states where I then had to endure the anger of my husband. We then moved to where the need was great in North Dakota, where some of the elders there also treated me with contempt, probably because of the letter they received from the elders in Greece. Although I’ve freed myself from these monsters, I pray for other women who are enduring similar circumstances.

If I didn't watch channels like this enough to know about the JW transfusion rule, I would have no idea what these people were going on about. They are so vauge about it. I don't even see how it's in the best interest of their cult to highlight a story like this. You'd think they'd be trying to get people to believe transfusions were unnecessary. At least they are honest about that part, I guess. CPS (along with the parents) also failed this child by dropping the case. Religious freedom is all well and good, but not when it means taking the life of someone who is not old enough to consent to that decision.

I'm glad i've never went through with deniying my now 11 year old son any form of blood transfusion. I doubted once, when i was studiying with the JW years after leaving at 18 y/o, when my child got ill due to sickelcelanemia crisis. And if the doctor at that time hadn't convince me to go through with the procedure i would have lost him in 2015 for a cold hearted cult. After that, the ladies conducting the study and the whole congregation stopped having contact with me within 2 weeks. He's now a happy beginning teenager with a spicy personality and makes me laugh everyday.

It is disgusting. I am so grateful that in the mid-eighties my aunty and uncle, disobeyed Watchtower, and allowed my premature baby cousin to receive a secret blood transfusion. He has grown into an amazing man, and now has a beautiful child of his own. I think back on all the wonderful memories we share, and know that my life would've been the poorer without him. My heart goes out to Jerod, and anyone whose lives would have been richer for him having him in them for longer. This madness needs to stop.

Dear Lloyd, Thank you for this video. Though extremely disturbing and heartbreaking, you handled it sensitivity and controlled your obvious distress and Anger admirably. I felt a mixture of sadness and anger myself. I thought back to the time when my daughter was 11 and there’s no way she could have made an informed adult decision at that age It is just far too young and is a decision that is unnecessary and it is a cruel and wicked thing that watchtower is imposing on those who are indoctrinated into this cult . I have to say that I don’t think I could have adhered to the decision if I had had to face losing my daughter, I could not have shunned her when she left and that was the beginning of my awakening.
