This is the kind of deer that if you shot it illegally, you’d have to keep your mouth shut, don’t show or forward pictures to anyone and hide the rack in the rafters for about 20 years. We had a buck similar to this one in a residential neighborhood that everyone had pictures of. It disappeared eventually. I’m sure someone shot it illegally and has the rack in hiding. It’s a shame!

Why can’t the insurance companies sue the state of Tennessee for vehicle damage if the state can prosecute on the value of a animal. I can understand the fines for the violations but the value added for the size of the deer is bullshit. If I hit a doe and in late June and she is pregnant with a buck fawn it could theoretically grow to this size so the next doe my wife hits on the way home I am simply going to send a bill to the Twra

You are confusing the intentional act of doing something illegal & an accidental collision. State agency cannot control if a wild animal runs in front of your car... they can control criminals actively breaking the law. Adding a monetary value to the animal to charge the criminal with hopefully deters future illegal activity.
@chriswillims1472 Жыл бұрын
@@usernamehere6061 you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I don’t agree with poaching what so ever but i also don’t agree with adding a price for every point add a day in jail instead. You can’t claim ownership of a wild animal then you don’t collect a fine on a wild animal you collect on the violations of poaching. We may have to disagree on this one but I feel like a public defender could pick this up and hit a home run for the insurance companies. Deer population is way out of control and it’s not the same as it was in the 90s not that many deer hunters mostly trophy hunters and I am as guilty as anyone deer hunt every year and wouldn’t shoot one to clean it anymore.
@chriswillims1472 Жыл бұрын
@@usernamehere6061 when population numbers are as high as they are now it’s not a accident when you hit one it’s a damn statistic it’s not if but when
@usernamehere6061 Жыл бұрын
@@chriswillims1472 Again, state agency cannot prevent accidents. They make money off the sales of hunting licenses so I am sure they want more hunters out there harvesting deer. The reason they increase the fee based on number of points is because the larger the antlers the more enticing it is for a poacher. What you are talking about will 100% not decrease vehicle collisions, whereas putting a price tag on poached animals will 100% decrease poaching.

This was 30 years ago, was rabbit hunting friend had beagles for years, we're hunting on top of this pile of overburden from an old strip mine, it was a big almost square shape flat and had cactus and blackberry vines all over growing out of shale and all the stuff, it was weird, kinda looked other worldly, and when it came to bunnies they were everywhere, anyway I'm at the NE corner and I hear clop clop sound behind me so I turned slowly, I knew the sounds and sure enough it's a buck and he's huge, prob dress close to 300 rack didn't have the lengths of some of those tines but this dude was a monster for where I was in S IL, he was in rut bigtime and he wasn't happy about the beagles running around he stood there for about 5 seconds, didn't snort or paw the ground, sun was at my back and low it was about 4pm so I knew he was lookin at a sort of tree stump that was never there before, he turned and went back down the old road the mine company had used and disappeared.

The worst kind of poaching to me is waste. All.poaching is wrong and makes hunting look bad, but if someone shoots a deer doesn't tag it and eats it doesn't compare to taking a animal for basically pictures. Plus all the effort put into hiding this deer is crazy, I have some real good friends but I ain't running around with a dead deer and ice for 3 days for myself let alone someone else. Glad these wardens did thier job well, my family owns 30 acres that was my grandfather's farm and we use it solely for hunting now and two years in a row I found a doe shot and left to waste. I called the wardens and the dispatcher told me "what you want us to do?" Mind you i live in Maine where the show "Northwoods law " was filmed for years and saw wardens chase a guy around for a week for running over a beaver but yet shot and wasted deer "what you want us to do?" I dunno atleast come out here and keep an eye out, do your job!! Well now our land is posted and new houses have popped up around us so really can't get into the woods without going through someone's yard so been able to regulate things better ourselves, unfortunately I work 5+ days a week and can't be out there everyday during hunting season but can only try and do things the right way and hope others follow. No deer or any harvest is worth breaking laws and being unsafe as far as I'm concerned and I've hunted over 25 years .

Need to go after what they can and I understand they can’t catch everyone but should go after even if it’s a spike harvested illegally but it doesn’t draw attention so let it be!!, soon as a giant hits the ground even legally they confiscate until proven innocent. Thats not hunting. My freezer is full of deer meat that I went out on the public land and scrapped for and every year I fill my freezer up and I put deer on my wall with antlers. It’s such a sickening thing when people go kill deer out of a truck window with a rifle because they are enamored with the size of the horns. A small basket rack is worth more mounted on my wall than a deer that I shot out of a truck window at night.

They probably won't be hunting again, I noticed the DNR stated there was a busy road in line with the shot, that most likely added to the felony where they won't be able to purchase a gun and that's why he stated about the road and heavy traffic, these 3 lost more than they will ever get back and rightfully earned, I raised my children to go out and hunt and not be a lazy POS road hunter, I despise road hunting there is no sport in it, if one was starving that's a different story but no one has ran into that issue yet. Adding the value to the deer is bs I think, after all they got the truck there gun and original fines that should've been enough. DNR knows exactly who poaches and what's taken, law enforcement/DNR have so many drones doing surveillance it's impossible to get away with anything anymore, not saying I would try. People really need to wake up on technology were paying for and there using against us. They will never admit the surveillance abilities they have = positive/ negative
