Feminism is all about equality, not women above men. But if the status quo is already men having more power, changing it might seem like taking men's rights away, when in fact it's making men and women EQUAL. We didn't start on the same point alright? Yes men can be victims of molest or domestic violence too; feminism actually teaches us about that fact. And the fact that men rarely report such incidents is precisely due to the masculine culture that silences them for "not being man enough". Focusing on female victims doesn't negate what male victims have gone through ok? It's not a zero-sum game, not mutually exclusive. So instead of making everything about men, why not start understanding what feminism really stands for?
@bencarter1666
@bencarter1666 6 жыл бұрын
姚澜 The problem with men coming forward, especially when the perpetrator is female, has nothing to do with masculine culture and everything to do with societal attitudes towards women and crime. This is acutely reflective in the criminal justice system in the UK, where a whole succession of women who commited the most heinous crimes, walked free on suspended sentences. The most high profile involved a 21 year old woman who had sex with a 11year old boy and two women in separate cases who almost stabbed to death their partners with knives. This has actually caused outrage in the media and is a direct result of thirty years of feminist campaign groups lobbying the government for greater leniency for women in the criminal justice system. A woman now only serves half the jail time of a man for equivalent crimes and it has sent completely the wrong message to the general population. In Britain female criminality has been rising for thirty years and male has been falling. If you don't think women are capable of the most heinous wickedness you are fooling yourself. I have studied a lot of criminal cases in this rabbit hole. It sends a signal out that women get a pass and you won't be taken seriously if you have to report them. This is incredibly dangerous.
@bennyton2560
@bennyton2560 6 жыл бұрын
Ben Carter Thanks for the reply, I never looked into the British female criminal case so I didn't actually know. But you definitely have a point. It's interesting why there's a gender disparity in terms of punishment. I feel like more studies need to be conducted about it as it's specific. I don't think the man's rights activist here has thought about it neither though

I think that a large part of to problem is that there is very little research on domestic violence with regards male victims. This is extremely important with regards the use of limited resources (although I would argue that the pot does need to be bigger in this area). That said the questionable statistics of a 2 to 1 ratio would require any person whether self identifying as feminist or equal rights advocate to be shocked at how little support is given to male victims. Some uk councils are doing better than others but none even close to this ball park ratio. In short we need to base resources on good statical evidence(costs money) of what is actually happening rather than who shouts loudest. A recent survey in my council regards people being physically struck by a partner since the age of 16 returned 17 percent of women and 11 or 12 percent of men. Don't know how well this survey was done but given how poorly other surveys have been carried out..... That said that guy did creep me out -but it might have been the editing.

Feminism is an ideology based on men being above women in this made up 'patriarchy' in which men get paid more money than women, all men protect and support rape, and also men are the oppressors. If you truly believe that men and women should have equal rights, stop calling yourself a feminist. I've debated and talked to many feminists to know that in practice, feminists don't fight for equality, they fight for female empowerment over men.
@mattpreece6106
@mattpreece6106 5 жыл бұрын
Ben Carter etc... The first Feminists actually asked to get arrested and to be taken seriously research the suffragette movement... it's because women AREN'T taken seriously that they are given shorter sentences... except for where the crime is seen as anti maternal etc and they have been judged more harshly ESPECIALLY by women judges... they are still in many ways treated like children and that they are easier to push around... some domestic violence happens against men because many women still believe that deep down a woman can't really hurt a man and that the man is just moaning... it is this anti woman mentality that is hurting men the most... one thing I will say though is that you can't talk about statistics of domestic violence because there are so many that go unreported and therefore don't show up in statistics... if your partner has ever slapped you that counts... it just is not taken seriously... if male slaps female though it is... it is equally wrong both ways

I find it a bit strange that the men's right acitivist wasn't confronted directly and just fact-checked separately from the actual interview. I get that it's harder, since she obviously can't memorize every statistic needed for that. But most of his baseless claims weren't exactly suprising. I also didn't like that she didn't confront him much on the fact that he just insulted Nish based on the fact that he works for the BBC and isn't mean. Also there are probably much more male DV victims than are actually accounted for due to the stigma. There still is a clear picture that more women are much more affected by it.
@andrewjohnson6716
@andrewjohnson6716 2 жыл бұрын
There was a systemic flaw with there fact checking. Just using the government statistics without context does not show the full picture. Studies by Harvard and Queens universities showed that men were less than half as likely to report being victims of abuse and that only a small percentage of reports that were made would be entered into statistical data. There is a circular argument that men aren’t victims because men aren’t victims.

Were you watching the same show? They were suggesting that women suffer more domestic abuse not that men suffer none hence the statistics? It's strange, actually, I always liked the idea of serfdom as a kid, out on the water, kicking back and chilling, until I realised what the word actually meant and that there's sharks in the water. Now I see people in voluntary serfdom competing for dropped crumbs at the management's feet, and I see people voluntarily surfing, even though there's such a thing as a shark! It's a mad world innit.
@andrewjohnson6716
@andrewjohnson6716 2 жыл бұрын
The modern use of the term serfdom misunderstands its historical reality. Serfs worked a fraction of the time that modern workers do, spent the majority of their free time outdoors and in social pursuits, and rarely if ever had to deal with their bosses (some would go their whole lives never laying eyes on them)

The point is domestic violence is horrible no matter if you're male or female. But you can't minimize it and say there are as many male victims as there are females, as it's simply not true.
@Mollari42
@Mollari42 6 жыл бұрын
Okay, according to the ONS there have been just over half the number of male reports of domestic violence as female reports, and this is what the OP is going on (I personally happen to think this is skewed since it is only reports, and I think it's way more likely that men wouldn't report this than women). In any case let's go with this figure, so one third of victims are male, and 2 thirds are female. Due you think the state or the country as a whole should give a third of its attention to male victims? Because you must admit that it clearly doesn't, by a long way! Personally I think the whole issue is much more about generational violent behaviour than it is about sexism, like Erin Pizzey always points out.

Buchanan, whilst his words were not appropriate, I sensed a more genuine concern from him.

@TheJamesRedwood
@TheJamesRedwood 6 жыл бұрын
No, it isn't an indicator that there "is" a hole in the roof, it is an indicator that there "may be" a hole in the roof. Which makes it a false premise for the conclusion: "there is a hole in the roof". A puddle on the floor could be an indicator of many things, you need to see the drip before you know it's a leaky roof and not a clumsy bucket carrier, or an incontinent drunk, or a messy drinker, or a host of other causes. Therefore a puddle on the floor, by itself, indicates nothing, you should get actual proof before you bother climbing on the roof to find a leak whose existence is moot. Do I need to continue spelling it out? I hope you are not a legislator. Have another go, or concede.

Because it gets unnecessarily confusing, a person makes a point on one thread and the other person counters it on this one etc, it's all a little messy why not stick to one thread and have one proper debate. So don't just say no, you're not my mum/dad, if you don't like my answer, go do one!

Carl Andrew I'm not sure what to say, except I'm sorry that your mind is so remarkably limited that you can't possibly comprehend two interelated issues that have a direct impact on one another.

Men created civilisation because men are the driving, ambitious, creative force in our species. Without men, mankind would be living in the Stone Age.

That's equality is it? That kind of sentiment is why most people don't identify with feminism, your kind is dying and good riddence. Most people just want to get on together peaceably, but your kind just want to be tribal, and doing so only makes more and more men tribal as well, good going!

You need to go back to school and learn language comprehension.

I cannot be sure who you're replying to, but I assume it's to the OP. Personally I didn't point this out because I it wasn't relevant, and also due to the large number of errors, likely due to English not being their first language.

Carl Andrews my reply was obviously not to you . Unfortunately youtube no longer links to the person you are replying my reply was to mel smith I think it is relevant as anyone with even the most basic of English comprehension knows the difference between man and men, and woman and women. I've known friends on three continents whose English as a second language skill would be much poorer than this person( mel smith) and yet can differentiate between woman and women. I have zero sympathy for anyone who talks like a spoiled child in kindergarten.. especially in regards to the abuse of anyone regardless of their gender..

iR Did you know the BBC discriminates against males and whites in the hiring process? Equality of outcome is a left wing policy.

@@DrJams No. It is not. The "leftists" or the "post-modern neo-Marxists" (if the latter is more your cup of tea as an inaccurate descriptor) advocate for equality of opportunity and want (I repeat WANT) everyone to have an equal outcome but NOT without EQUAL effort and productivity. The BBC pays men more than women FOR THE SAME JOB!! which isn't even the case in the national wage gap. Here's an example though, if men and women naturally sort themselves into a structure where women are dependent on men and earn less then for the vast majority of women (shown in various polls) a structural change needs to be made that gives women more opportunities to earn the same for the same effort.

@@paranoidandroid2098 What do you mean "it's not working?" Face it, women play the victim and want preferential treatment, not a level playing field. You understand that Chris Evans had the largest audience so why shouldn't he get paid more? Face it, the women just moan but are not bringing the same to the table. Educate yourself.
