Overrated and overpushed in TNA just like brock lesnar in WWE.

EC3 could’ve been a big time name in wrestling, but the way Vince treated him and his own failure to bounce back and reinvent himself afterwards was his downfall. Hopefully he can have one last hurrah before retiring.

I think I read somewhere he realized that the CYN gimmick kinda cooked him as well, and I don't think he's doing that anymore. I'm not exactly sure what his gimmick is in the NWA, but I've heard him cut some promos that sound a lot like the EC3 of old so that sounds good at least. Hope he thrives
@Maven-g1o5 ай бұрын
Could be worse, he's currently the NWA world heavyweight champion, but sadly barely anyone pays attention to NWA these days, which is a shame because EC3 is a way better champion in every way than Tyrus was. Id love to see EC3 come back to WWE and have a proper run, but then again idk if Triple H will give him that

When I first saw MJF in MLW in 2018 I thought he was a knockoff EC3. Never would have imagined that the knockoff would go on to far eclipse the original. During the black and gold era of NXT former TNA and ROH guys always thrived. For some reason it seemed like even they really missed the boat with EC3. I guess it was due to that concussion, he never got consistent TV time and was never able to build momentum like all those other big name indy guys that were there at the time.

I used to read 411mania back in the day and I would read the late Larry Csonka's column reviewing MLW Fusion where I remember him calling MJF "dollar store EC3" and I find that crazy in hindsight

I view him as the Mr. Anderson of MJFs in today's day and age. A guy who at his best is among the best in the industry in terms of character work and at his worst phones it in to a level that's comical. From what I've read recently, he's had a ton of periods throughout his career where if he faced x amount of adversity (in what seems to only be WWE in particular), he would get severely demotivated and demoralized. To a degree, he has to face a certain amount of the blame for certain aspects of his character within the company, but I also can't blame any talents who were demotivated or demoralized during late 2010s WWE.

It's been so long since that TNA push as EC3 and boy howdy did his career die the second he was called up by Vince and he never ever recovered.

I still think EC3's run on the main roster and how he got screwed over was because of Vince being bitter that the former Derek Bateman became successful outside of the 'E, and he got punished for it.

Great comparison with MJF and EC3. EC3 had the charisma that really made him stand out more than anyone else, and it's the same with MJF. On a side note, I miss the days when I used to watch TNA and be a big fan. Havent watched in a while because it seemed to turn into random long wrestling matches with not many promos or character building.

I still watch TNA weekly for the most part, they've sort of went more into that direction recently which is fine, but a lot of their talents aren't as larger-than-life or exuberant so it looks kinda goofy sometimes. I think EC3 leaving was the last of TNA and the official birth of Impact, and I think that was ultimately good for the industry because Impact was my favorite weekly wrestling show in 2018 after they worked through the kinks of their "rebuild".

I guess in hindsight, using a character tailor-made for TNA in Vince's WWE was never going to work but they absolutely could've made the necessary tweaks to make it work imo.

EC3 has rebranded CYN as a pro-wrestling training co-operative in his hometown he still runs his own promotion called Exodus Pro-Wrestling which is a join promotion with NWA as Billy Corgan wants to rebuild the territory system of pro wrestling though it's not working as well as it should
@KLAClips5 ай бұрын
Yeah I heard about that, I'm not sure why they would go back to the territory system in today's day and age but I hope it goes well for them

@@KLAClips it would be nice to have seeing how pro-wrestling is becoming more popular there can be an independent developmental system or a system where wrestlers can make a name for themselves so the big companies WWE, AEW, and TNA notice them without them having to go to Japan or Mexico they can make a name for themselves in the US

Who still watches NWA? Is EC3 just having a year long reign not being watched by anyone? I can't imagine anyone actually going out of their way to watch the promotion that gave a world title reign to Titus

I used to watch NWA in 2019 when they were on KZbin with Aldis, Starks, Kingston, Storm, Eli Drake, Aron Stevens, Thunder Rosa, etc but since like 2021 I've never heard any positive discourse about them (not that they've deserved it tbf)

He's such a weird guy that I feel like there's something more to his WWE failure than Vince just not liking him. I was all in on Bateman during the NXT Redemption days. I assumed his ability to act in backstage segments would help him with Vince.

I don't think, if he went to an actual #2 promotion playing to his strengths, he would have been hurt by his WWE run. At that time the fan base cheered on people being free of the evil empire. When he debuted for Impact with a dead-serious character and bodybuilders physique, he just seemed like a broken man who didn't want to "sports entertain" anymore, which is what he was best at.

I think TNA is the highest he can go at this stage. WWE seems to be more investing into their youth as well as talents from overseas and AEW has a lot of very talented individuals who need the TV time over him. I've been watching clips from interviews that took place the last few years and it seems he's in a good place mentally and everything so good for him. I think one of the problems for him is that he views himself as a top level main eventer (everyone should have that belief about themselves in pro wrestling) but he has a ceiling in places like WWE and AEW when there are guys who deserve those spots far more, with all due respect to him. Big fish in a small pond kind of situation I see for him, so NWA is probably the best spot for him outside of the big 3 in the US.

I think it was during the pandemic he was posting a lot of questionable things about the vaccine or masks or something on his IG story. There was something else but I don't remember it exactly. EC3 is the very definition of over-emoting. Dude was so over-expressive to the point that he was basically the Dolph Ziggler of facial expressions, and it killed his push as a result. Selling moves is one thing, selling emotions is another. There is genuine heat, and there is go-away heat, and his face alone generated so much go-away heat that I don't think anyone could take him seriously, and they still can't. And then the whole Control Your Narrative thing made him look just bitter and resentful that his ideas never got over, and the failure of CYN kind of proved that point. In my opinion, dropping the EC3 gimmick would have been best in the long term, at least in his WWE run, because there was no way in hell WWE would ever reference him as Ethan Carter III, Dixie Carter's nephew, not in 2018 WWE. They literally would have been better off reverting to the Derrick Bateman name at that point, because at least then they could reference his past with the company. You say dropped opportunity, I say there was never an opportunity in the first place under the conditions he was willing to agree to. But, that's just my opinion, and to each their own.
@poxx39162 ай бұрын
TO BE FAIR, I think he has a hand in his downfall. I mean... Control your narrative? What the hell type of name for a fed is that?
