A lot of the time, even in retrospect, we don't realize that we've been in a rut, that some huge disruptive event that might seem scary and awful is actually a wonderful blessing in disguise, so long as we get our mindset around it correct

You can't say, I arrived at this knowledge through these steps, but you don't have to take those steps you can just have that knowledge. Well obviously he's hoping that people don't think they need to have an NDE or hit rock bottom to find their purpose... But as you said and as history would inform us, we must walk our own path, our own journey, to truly understand our purpose in life. To quote Billy Joel "we didn't start the fire, it was always burning, since the world's been turning. We didn't start the fire, no, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it".... Take what we can from the experiences around us and keep trying to fight the fire but finding your own fire within.
