I think the match that changed his career was his 4th round encounter against djokovic at the 2013 AO

That match showed Wawrinka what was he capable of but this comebacks literally meant his 3rd Grand Slam Title

Yeah definitely! It proved to him that he was able to not just hold his own but actually beat the best in the world! It’s one of the best quality matches I’ve ever seen tbh..

@@jeremiet2739 100% agree. That match was insanely high quality from beginning to end. It might not been a semifinal or a final match, but it is one of my fondest memories being a tennis fan. Watching it at like 5am being in complete awe of the level even until the vey end.

The match that changed Stan's career was his loss against Djokovic in the 2013 AO where he "failed better" 12-10 in the fifth set. That launched him to win the next year against Nadal.

U think he could have beaten a injury free Rafa ?
@SJ-di5zu3 жыл бұрын
@@roydondsa No but still give him credit. He beat Djokovic earlier that tournament
@roydondsa3 жыл бұрын
@@SJ-di5zu no no ..full credits to Wawrika .m just asking a simple question that could he has beat full health Rafa who he has not beaten his entire carrier at that point ..I think H2H was 8-0 or 9-0 something ..
@Aditya145613 жыл бұрын
@@roydondsa damn sure he could have even beaten injury free peak Nadal because Stan was in the form of his life that year nobody could have stopped him the way he was crushing the balls clean striking of the ball just unstoppable dude. When he is on he hits those winners like bullets form all around the court .

Same, I was surprised by the level displayed by Evans here.

I'd say his 2016 season, not his career. Sensational match though. And that post match on court interview was memorable for that question of "do you guys think he's gonna win" the tournament, which was met with a huge supportive reception from the crowd. A tongue in cheek that turned out to be a fairytale run. Goosebumps. Incredible.

I think RG 2017 against Murray shortened his (and Murray's) career, so that match is probably more significant

@@dumitriuradu8481 absolutely true I don't understand why I always see that, when you're injured since 6 months it's not a 4 hour match that will shorten your career it's a whole accumulation

This might be the match that changed Stans 2016 season, but not his carrer. Match that changed his carrer was definitelly AO 2013 vs Novak, thats where he found his confidence that he can play with the best players in the world for 5 hours. Next year he beat Novak in 5 and Nadal in the final in 4. So that was definitelly the turning point of his carrer.

The public doesn’t really connect with Stan the Man. I have to say he’s had his moments of ugliness with crowds. He’s not the lovable kind of guy like a Roger Federer or even Nadal but his talents are undeniable yet he lacks confidence in himself. This was obviously a huge win against one of the best on fast surfaces. Great matches.

People don’t follow tennis closely.. Wawrinka has been coming up since 2011/2012 but wasn’t noticed by most until 2012, especially US Open, 2012. This video was about 4 years too late. I would say his career diminished after Roger comeback defeat at AO 2017.
