Unintended "joke" according to the Wachowski's in an interview many years ago. Most people had no idea what a "cookie" was in 1999. In fact, they changed humans being used as memory-capacity to being a power source since they believed most people in 1999 weren't computer-literate enough to understand.

The marketing for this was brilliant. It presented a stylized sc-fi action film, but didn't show anything about the machines in the real world or the reality/simulation theme. When the reveal happened, it blew everyone's mind.

The matrix is simply an ultra high definition video game. Games have rules (laws of physics) Agents (mini-bosses) have stats higher than the normal players but Neo has the ability to mod the game in real time to give himself even higher stats than the bosses have and even change the game itself. The protagonist has to have something to overcome otherwise you get Gary Stu/ Mary Sue characters, which most audiences reject.

dont let the Wachowskis read this they might try to make a 4th movie where Neo is just a game dev who made a video game trilogy called The Matrix

I think a lot of people miss the subtext of the second movie. They really went deeper into a lot of the more obscure philosophical and computer-architecture aspects compared to the first one, and that lost a lot of viewers.

I love the scene in the car where they get rid of his bug. When Switch calls Neo "Copper-top", she is calling him a Duracell battery. Back in the 80s there was a commercial for Duracell where they called themselves the Copper-top battery. She is telling him that he is nothing more than battery feeding the machines.

I would propose that what you said about AI should be corrected to, 'that' was the time (when the Wachowskis laid it out for us in The Matrix) for us to think about AI; now we're on the back of our heels and some that have been thinking about it are concerned it may be too late. I was glad to see you pick up on so many important points in this masterpiece that many others miss the first time. Watch this again and again as the rabbit hole goes so deep; there is so much more.

@17:45 Smell is actually rarely used while dreaming... It's generally considered that people rarely experience smell in their dreams, as the brain regions responsible for smell are less active during dream states compared to vision and hearing; This is why smell is considered one of the least common senses to be involved in dreams. It's also been speculated that the rarity of smell in dreams; may be because smell circuits, being a very ancient function, follow distinct pathways into the cerebral cortex and have less overlap with vision and auditory networks.

Fun Fact: I don't know whether it was a deliberate homage or not, but the idea of something called The Matrix, a construct/computer built of minds, is at least as old as 1976 when the Doctor Who series The Deadly Assassin depicts the Time Lords as having a massive computer/virtual environment that is build using the minds of all deceased members of their race, and much like here The Matrix can be entered using special equipment by a living mind and explored.

The second and third movies are divisive. The second one is a bit clunky with it's storytelling but it expands the world, makes for a great middle chapter setting up the third movie, and has what may be the greatest, longest, sustained action sequence ever. There is a second act show-stopper that is *twelve minutes* of choreographed mayhem that never gets repetetive or lets you zone out and keeps you glued to every frame of it. The way the third movie is set up, you can't not see it, but... it doesn't suck, but that's really the kindest thing I can say about it. The new one is garbage. What IS worth checking is "The Animatrix" animated short anthology. It has a lot of world-building and backstory information and a lot of it is just cool.

I really keep a fantastic memory of this movie when i saw it for the first time in a theater. It was really a mind-blowing experience, the two other movies didn't have this novelty compared to this one. It was really revolutionary, a important milestone in the cinema history for scifi movies.

I first watched this in Sydney (where it was filmed) and The Matrix remains to this day, one of my top...if not my very top movie of all time. As far as I know, the concept has not been portrayed like this in any other movie, which makes it a very iconic movie. The term "Matrix" is used to describe control systems. Andrew Tate for instance, calls our system, The Matrix. You can interpret it in various ways. The spiritual battle for instance and that our physical bodies are really only perceptions, but the true reality is vibrational and spiritual. The Matrix can also be compared to the worlds Commercial and banking system, because it's an invisible "legal" realm that controls how the world operates. We pay taxes into it, so in effect it uses us like batteries. I had hoped that The Matrix would usher in a new era of enlightenment and freedom, but thus far it has not happened. If anything, we move closer and closer to The Matrix being an actual reality.

The Matrix is a story that is divided among three different movies. It does not matter whether you like or dislike Matrix: Reloaded or Matrix: Revolutions, all three movies must be watched in order to understand the story that is being told. The fourth movie, Matrix: Resurrections, is not part of the original story.

They COULDN'T push the button to activate the EMP because it would take out every electronic device in the area, including the computers and broadcasting equipment on their ship. And since Neo was inside the matrix, he'd die, because the connection would be lost. Come to think of it... the connection is wireless, so it's gotta be nerve wracking going into the Matrix knowing that if the wifi signal is interrupted, even for a fraction of a second, you die.
@Stockfish15112 күн бұрын
Yes second and third are worth to watch. People say they are weaker than the first one. While i agree that the first one is the best one, however the second and third get into much deeper into what Matrix is, what neo is, what the oracle is, why matrix exists. Alot of questions get answered. Although it can be a bit confusing, i dont mind doing some explaining in the comment section if needed ;) Id argue second and third parts can be better if you get into the matrix lore.

Emma if you happen to see this comment know if anyone ever mentions 4 and states it's better or as good as any of the previous 3 know that person is a schitzo so just ignore their completely insane statement. I would say "continue going down the 'rabbit hole' of the Matrix movies" 😁

Matrix, one of the best movies ever made. It is a brilliant movie and it really grips you. It is incredible... Action movies were never the same after this. The rest of the Matrix movies are alright. Matrix 2 is pretty good. The third one is too action oriented and the fourth movie was good, but they had too much plot to put into a single film for it. So it feels kind of crammed and forced. It is a good movie, but it could have used more space to breathe more.
