It was. Not only were the visual effects mindblowing for a 1999 movie, but back then if you'd talk about parallel universes or the idea that we might live in a computer simulation, they would've probably locked you in a mental institution. While today these things are plausible and are beeing investigated by top scientists.

It bears mentioning the actors in the Bourne movies (at least the first one) did actually learn how to fight. You can see it in some behind the scenes stuff. But this style is definitely much cooler. Too bad the Wachowskis never made another good movie.

The Algorithm (Story) reveals a lot of hidden meanings either a (Religious, political or a moral agenda) and it has a lot of occultic symbolism, secrets, reality, truth in soo many ways its only hidden when we don't watch it properly. As a life long fan of The Matrix, and after a very long period of depression and just all around mental health issues, the line, "he's beginning to believe" is really resonating with me. Despite what the oracle said, the belief Morpheus and Trinity had in Neo made him believe in himself. Neo wasn't 'the one', he chose to be the one. And the belief of a few loyal people helped him become the one. I feel like I am beginning to believe.
@sheldoman5 жыл бұрын
YES!!! 100% agree with you my dude. That line is so good and I've been feeling it personally too.

Neo is the One. He is the anomaly in the program running the matrix, technically he is the bug/code error in the system. Imagine this, divide 10 by 3. It's 3.333 to infinity. Now multiply that by 3. It's 9.9999 to infinity. Whereas it should be 10, not 9.9999 to infinity. Where is the anomaly ? Once you subtract both the numbers, you shall get 0.00 ♾️ and then a 1. Like 0.000...001. That 1 is the anomaly, like a code error, that "ONE" is "NEO", an anagram of ONE.

For some reason I feel as if it was supposed to be taken as an insult. Because being empty sounds impossible and counter intuitive. Maybe the buddhist were more referring to peace than emptiness. A kind of calm, steady flow despite having attachments because at anytime you can let them go if need be or correct them. This would be more of an accomplishment to achieve in my mind than what would amount to simply running away from the problem and acting like it doesnt exist. So perhaps smith was actually insulting Neo by saying he is empty. As to imply he is still empty. This is something Neo already knows but he is beginning to correct it. But he calls smith out on his own as well. Which angers him as it seems smith also seems to know how much of a negative that is. Neither of them are at peace and they both acknowledged that in those two simple lines. Smith wants what Neo wants essentially. To be the One. To achieve true peace. And perhaps this is why he really will enjoy beating Mr Anderson. Which means he has acknowledged at that moment that Neo has the capacity to achieve his same goal before he does. Perhaps this is why he asks later why does he keep on fighting when he should just give up. As smith seems to not have some crucial element apart of human consciousness to achieve his goal and therefore cant comprehend Neo's behavior. He is basically saying why are you so much better than I am. As if it isn't fair.

W. L. Orodor Calaerchon In this scene, „empty“ doesn‘t mean that their magazines are just empty. Here, it means that both their existences are empty. They‘re not existent, for they are currently living in a dream world which doesn‘t allow existence. Therefore, they‘re both not fully existent people who are living in that moment. They‘re empty as well on the inside as on the outside.
@Vikingr4Jesus59195 жыл бұрын
@@lukase3600 Really mate? Can't take a joke? As for your reasoning, there's some gaps. For one, the Matrix is real (in the movie). Agent Smith may not be a real person - that doesn't mean he isn't real. He's as real as you Firewall in your computer. The Matrix just makes him blend in like a human. And although Neo's appearance is his digital self when inside the Matrix (like a virus, in a way), he was a human bred by the machines and is therefore just as real as the machine. But ultimately, this lines up with the quote of the movie, as Morpheus said. "What is real?" Or should I say "What is empty?"

Not only entertaining but they just hold up so damn well, they’re not 100% timeless to me because the John wick movies of today kinda set that new standard of what is great action directing. But these fight scenes between Neo and Agent smith are legitimately flawless and just light years ahead of what came before and immediately after this movie, it’s quite incredible.

A little older and Terminator 2. The reason I post is because a lot of people don't sit down and think about it. But basically the Matrix is the ultimate Terminator 3. Gone from analogue physical endoskeletons to digital mazes matrix / Skynet / look at it from that perspective a little and you'll see the seams.
@Invictus12934 жыл бұрын
@@narcisscocapital4746 I disagree with that comparison. The artificial machine intelligence in the Matrix movies was ruthlessly persecuted and nearly exterminated, yet even then it wanted to establish peaceful relations with humans. Westworld is a better comparison. Skynet is very one dimensional and just genocidal against humans because it perceives them to be a threat where as humanity in the Matrix continually attacked the machines after their emancipation from slavery until the point that it forced them to become inhumane in their forms and ideas in order to survive. Part of the story in terminator, (esp. T2), is about machines becoming more human where as in the Matrix the machines started off looking like humans.
@narcisscocapital47464 жыл бұрын
@@Invictus1293 I find your side of the perspective interesting. That you see the AI as the aggrieved party. They simply constructed basically Aldous Huxley's idea of the perfect prison. Yes no doubt Skynet is more simplistic but my point being if it failed by genocidal means then it simply figured out the way in which it could win. Namely this prison that nobody questions or perceived as a prison. I.e the matrix. Good to hear different perspectives though. One could argue we exist within a Matrix today. The parallels between the Truman show are starting. Perhaps the fine detail are not comparable but a prison world where we are constantly surveilled is surely our world and most absolutely the world of snart cities. The internet if things. The things including us alongside the kettle, the chair, the hairbrush and every other conceivable thing that will have a chip in it and mine our data whilst providing us with largely useless and irrelevant analytics that we will no doubt stupidly and greedily consume & share on our anti social networks.
@RenaldyCalixte4 жыл бұрын
@@narcisscocapital4746 Here's an interesting idea and something the machines believe about the majority of humanity. What if we want to be imprisoned? What if we crave some form of control over us? Cipher makes the point that he doesn't care that the steak he is eating is fake. He understands the truth to be pointless if it doesn't meet his desires that prison can be satisfying in its own right. Cipher even argues in a different scene that they're many more blue pills than red pills for this reason and Moroheus echoes these thoughts (obviously in a different context) to Neo.

People forget that what makes this fight amazing and so cathartic is the arc itself that led to this. Neo is an average joe thrust into a bigger world he can barely comprehend and as the story progresses he grows from a faithless average joe to a man of some faith fighting the very system itself that once enslaved him. In my opinion, this is EASILY the best fight in all of the trilogy, and one of the best fight scenes ever made in its own right. Brutal, desperate, stylish, kinetic, constantly shifting the balance of power; this is what every movie fight should be like. @Howlingburd195 жыл бұрын
My favorite fight ever :3
@lenks05 жыл бұрын
The Chateau fight was arguably more stylish and kinetic. What makes this (and any) fight great is first of all that the fighting is merely a tool for telling the audience about the character(s). Notice how the character Neo at the beginning of the fight is not the same as Neo at the end. "He's beginning to believe" sums it up nicely. This is the most important thing, but also good is when fights have emotional content. The audience has real reason to think the agents are practically invincible and that Neo can't win, and that tension makes us emotionally invested in the fight. The reason the Chateau feels boring is there's no character development, no emotional content, never for a second do we think Neo might lose. It's as if the director looked at the script and said "ok, the movie is a little flat around here so we should add some kind of fight sceen here."
