@@mikeoxlong1395 exactly, we f*** don't want another matrix. It ended perfectly and was fully explored. The fact WB has been wanting to make a matrix 4 since 2003 should be upsetting people. People don't even realize what they're asking for by saying they want a matrix 4. You'd have to come up with another super interesting philosophical concept to implement, and you'd need groundbreaking CGI and amazing fight scenes, just to keep up with the originals. And much more like good acting etc. If there's more to a world that's been untold, like LOTR or GOT I get why people want more. But a matrix 4 is an insanely dumb idea.

Yup. In every "Behind the Scenes"video of a once-popular franchise, there's always some moron writer or director who says, "we wanted to take (beloved popular franchise) and make it our own." The sheer f*cking balls it takes to say something like that. The ego. A 30-year-old franchise isn't yours to "make your own" it belongs to the ages and more importantly, it belongs to the FANS.

What baffled me the most is the casting. In the first movie every single actor was interesting and unique, even the side characters like mouse. Especially Laurence Fishburne, he such a strong presence everything he said sounded cool just because he said it, and Hugo Weaving, with his menacing calm. For this it's like they hired from some generic actor list. It felt like a school play of the matrix. Except for NPH, I'm glad you pointed out how good he was in this. The other reviews I saw lumped him in with everyone else. He wasn't even close to saving the movie but I found him to be the best parts.

To clarify- in the Original Matrix, the Agents can move through " software". That being REAL humans the agents would take over, and if the agent was " killed" while in the software the REAL human would also die. We see this when agents revert back and are the dead human. The " bots" are programs, No human body attached. They were created so the Agents no longer had to " lose crop" Not saying this is better or anything, but technically there is a difference that is explained.

But the story of Part 2 was captivating and that freeway chase was some of the best action sequences ever. But you are right, each successive chapter has gotten worse. Resurrections could've been a story about the search/extraction of Neo because an event is happening in The Matrix that needed his intervention because it involves Zion, but The Machines won't give them Neo cause they don't want to get involved or jeopardize the peace agreement between the Humans. The film could explore the emergence of illogicality of human emotions within Machines. We could've gotten new characters even Machine characters. Keanu could've made a small appearance in the 4th then continue being the One in the 5th or at least trying to become the Anomaly again. In the 6th, he could've have become a Machine God fighting aliens or whatever, but not this.

There was absolutely no need for any sequel/reboot. Clearly this one's not. But as someone else pointed out, as a parody movie it works ok. The original Trilogy will always be the one I will always go back to, every once in awhile. Just like the original 3 Star Wars movies. But this one? Better not include it in the Trilogy world at all.

Siblings and I riffed on what could have been a better movie: -Waking humans created power shortages, so now Naobi is actively trying to keep humans asleep -Bugs and their team need to awaken Neo thinking he'll help fight against new machines but he wants to stay asleep because Trinity died and her consciousness only exists in the Matrix -Morpheus/ Smith has internal struggles that put the team in deadly situations - he can't be entirely trusted -We explore Neo's mental health and actually let us believe the matrix was all the result of a sick mind It took us 10 minutes to come up with a better movie so we were pretty certain these ideas were talked about in the writing room much to our sadness but the studio probably said "BUT BULLET TIMEEEEEE"

David Hume observes that it is within everyone's capability to understand if they like something or not, but it is the distinguishing feature of a true 'critic' that he can weigh all the components of a thing and determine which work and which do not and whether they all work together. There is no shame in not being a 'critic' in that sense, nor does it make you wrong in any way if you are not. But it is to those true critics who we should turn if we hope to understand such things ourselves... even if we don't always agree with their every analysis.

@@anthonymartensen3164 i think some people are a little harsh. i watched the matrix trilogy for the first time a couple of days ago and just yesterday i watched the new one. personally, the first matrix film was really good, but i found 2 and 3 really boring and uninteresting. they had some good scenes, but i didn't find them interesting. i can kinda understand why people would like them. the new one for me wasn't bad and was a lot better than 2 and 3, but the characters didn't feel as memorable and it's really strange not to see Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving. Also, seeing Jada Pinkett Smith being aged up somehow felt like they did her dirty. I feel like a lot of this film's faults come from the circumstances. Many actors weren't invited, busy, or just didn't want to come back and they had to explain why characters were different. Also, a 4th film wasn't fully needed. Despite all this, I thought the 4th one was fine. No the best imo, but definitely better than 2 and 3 for me. A little disappointed though because this could have been a really cool reunion like Spider-Man NWH

The idea of putting out a Matrix sequel almost 20 years after the story ended was a bad one to begin with. This series was done. It was over in 2003. Why are we getting another movie now? I guess you could say it was a cash grab but that grab seems to have failed miserably since it opened 50% below expectations. This is the kind of nonsense you get when you take a story that was finished with all of the threads and try to untie them to continue it. You get a tangled mess.
@HerculesBallsInc

There are sequel ideas that COULD have been interesting. 'Pitch Meeting' points out that the war between the AIs could have been a fascinating movie. Or how about a city full of freed humans trying to survive on a scorched planet without machine help. Or maybe even a suddenly reduced-population Matrix that is trying to hold itself together with less energy and less people, or maybe a new Matrix society developing with people awake to the illusion. Any of these ideas COULD have used some of the characters we were familiar with. But instead they went with trying to remake the first one but filled with joking self-references. Lame.

I have no idea why The Wachowskis still get work. They made 1 great movie (OG Matrix) and 2 decent movies (v for vendetta and speed racer) and the rest of their work has ranged from middling (matrix sequels) to outright god awful (jupiter ascending). It baffles me how Hollywood can reward people for making one good product 20 years ago. They're obsessed with the past. Also makes me wonder how much of the Matrix was actually them, or the team surrounding them at the time.

@@mish375 normally i would agree but after further thought the film touches on this...in that it wasn't all in vein. Progress is being made in the real world between man and machine thanks to Neo and Trinity's previous sacrifices. The strawberry making scene although a bit brief was showing us a glimpse of man and machine starting to work together to build a better world again. Plus Smith is a part of neo..if neo is reinserted....Smith is too...as we learn he is the negative side of neo's equation, with the anomaly trying to 'balance itself out'. One of the dumbest ideas for The Matrix: Resurrections was the black cat named “Dejá Vu.” And another dumb idea was the character named Bugs. This is Warner Brothers second attempt this year where a character named Bugs who has a connection to a rabbit being the savior of the film itself. Space Jam: A New Legacy and The Matrix: Resurrections are two WB film properties of this year that were a cash grab and included meta humor. But I would say that I enjoyed Space Jam 2 more than The Matrix 4 by storyline, world building, and humor. The Matrix 4 is just a fanboys fan fiction film of The Matrix posted up on KZbin for clickbait and views. There was nothing new here but old characters returning back and looking at their crows feet wrinkles and a lot of exposition that ruins the film itself. Yahya’s portrayal as Morpheus is on par with shit writing that feels like James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and Alex Kurtzman were involved in a drinking game of who could rewrite the script to the first Matrix film in a modern day progressive society first. And lord and behold here we are with this terrible excuse of a new Matrix movie.

One of the best analysis videos on the Matrix Resurrections, pointing out many of thee contradictions and plot holes. One of the plot holes I've never seen brought up is how Sati's parents were killed because they worked on the super pods that Neo (and Trinity) were in, but they were running exiles before those were created and before there was even a plan to create those super pods. Further there were already rainbows at the end of the 3rd Matrix movie, so what's going to be the point to bring them back? It really bugs me how the big message was "It's not a binary choice between two options, there's co-existence possible", yet the real world Matrix is still just as strong and there's no intention of coexistence from the elites to the sheeple, like in the movie the machines using the "copper top" humans.

by the end of the 3rd Matrix movie, when Neo died, its shown that the machines could still read his energy somehow, the thing that look kind a like an enlightenment imagery or some shit, so it is possible to bring him back to the matrix if its ASAP, maybe, even for reasons all non beneficial to the machines, but Trinity on the other hand, rigor mortis must've already sets in all over her corpse by the time Neo finished defeating Smith, plus Neo took his time reaching the center of the machines with all his blindness and shit.

The obvious route, and this was actually a development I was expecting since the end of Reloaded (given Neo's still unexplained real-world force powers), was to reveal the real world was a matrix of its own. A safety net to catch red-pills. As predictable as it might be, it would offer opportunities (bringing characters back without having to explain how impalement can be repaired) and the chance to have a new 'real world' reveal better than Zion mk II.

@@horysmokes3339 But Neo's real world force powers were explained. It was said in revolutions that the abilities of the one come from the source and that even in the real world, Neo has some kind of wireless connection to it. This is why the only things Neo's powers could affect were the machines. It's not like he was manipulating anything else in the real world. Having connection to the source allowed him to essentially command scripts to the sentinels, like "stop," "shutdown," or "Self destruct."

The thing I hate about this trend of taking beloved franchises and rekicking it back to life, is they never have any creativity in how they do it. It's all box checking. Old cast? Check. References to previous scenes/dialog? Check. New dialog that thinks it's being smart/twisting the originals plot points? Check. New cast of quirky modern day feminist representation? Check. It's the Force Awakens all over again and if there's one highlight to this Matrix film it's how self aware it is at times. But that doesn't do the film any justice.

The bullet time scene was the worst offender. The matrix agents were already capable of moving that fast in the first movie. They act like neo made this power and like it's slow motion. Neo just "moved like them" Guess Lana forgot how her own universe works

I watched it and I'll say this. The original Matrix was thought provoking and actually wanted a smart audience. This movie wants you to shut off your brain and watch the pretty colors, it wants a dumb audience. It was bland, forgettable, and uninspired. Just like most of what Hollywood is pumping out these days. In their attempt to be meta with the jokes and dialogue they just made cringe. I agree, this movie should've never been made.

I don't get hyped for movies like these, no matter how nostalgic, because of political agenda this, stunning visuals over air-tight writing that, blah, blah, blah...My goodwill was all used up on the second Resident Evil movie and we see how right I was to do that now...So, Aliens, Predator, The Terminator, Star Wars (everyone's favorite) and now The Matrix. Barring some movies I've forgotten, any takers on what cinematic masterpiece's corpse that will be defiled and paraded around for a quick buck next? My money is on...a Disney remake.

Disney has not had their way with Aliens yet; Fox ran it into the ground multiple times so now Disney is going to have have a go at it. Honestly at this point they've burned through most franchises and movies there's not too much left. Maybe Robocop? I could see them really shitting all over that. And I fear for what Disney may also do to the Planet of the Apes. Pretty sure the female pirates of the Caribbean reboot is greenlit; it's going to be so empowering watching Captain Jane Sparrow. Can't forget about the Indiana Jones movie; nothing like a now 80 y.o Harrison Ford being put in his place by a woman.

This is what happens when you get someone with JK Rowling levels of retconning about their own story...and then let them actually make a new movie. It wasn't too hard to see the references and concepts at play in the initial Matrix. As well as the various books, movies, games, and television shows that provided inspiration for it. The problem is that post Matrix the Wachowskis have had and spent a couple decades trying to recontextualize it to who they are now. To pretend that that was how it was always meant to be understood. The movie is literally a petulant, "NUH UH!" to everyone they've decided they don't want liking the movie. How a studio was convinced to let them make this is mind boggling.

Or here is another thought, the Wachowski's are hacks that got lucky with the first matrix and haven't done anything good after. Speed racer? Cloud Atlas? Jupiter Ascending? all shit. The original Matrix had production people above them, not letting them do stupid shit. After it was a hit they got free rein and we got shit after shit. The Matrix 2 and 3 are not bad movies but they are shadows of the first one, and truthfully didn't need to be made. Nolan, Spielberg, Cameron, actually good directors make good movies beyond their one hit wonders.

The Matrix has so much potential beyond sequels. You don't even have to reboot it to tell interesting stories within the universe. I think it would work great as a TV show. Each episode could easily be a self contained experience with different writers and creators taking it on, just like The Animatrix. The Matrix 4 represented a complete lack of creative imagination, ambition and motivation.
