Do not stand By my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep- I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning’s hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night. Do not stand By my grave, and cry- I am not there, I did not die.

It has certainly been a week of emotions since the news of Steve last week. The speed it happened is what has been shocking for me, I only spoke to him a few weeks ago and we were comparing how we could lose weight and become more healthier, we both had a love for biscuits. KZbin has been recommending his videos a lot to me over the past week and it's easy to forget what has happened and just think that he is in his greenhouse sowing seeds. His death has certainly made me look at my own life and have already started making changed, hopefully for the better. I've bought his favourite Sweet Pea varieties and once they arrive I'll be growing them in the garden as a lasting memory of a wonderful and generous gentleman.

Such a shock, Sean. And like you say, all seemed to happen with such speed. Its made me see a lot of things in a changed light too, not just the biscuits 😅. Sweetpeas are definitely going to move higher up my agenda with his memory in mind.

Jessie sending you a large hug It's such a shock to lose someone, with no notice, but as Tony said the old chap didn't want anyone to make a fuss over his passing, and I know you and I and everyone will miss him hugely, it's rare to come across someone of Steve Randles talent these days a chefs delight a talented fisherman, and above all else a gentleman and a gardener who was only too happy to help others,he answered many questions from me over the years and helped me be a better gardener,as he'd did for so many others We will all miss him But weren't we so lucky to have had the pleasure. RIP Steve and a nod to Tony ,allways a pleasure, never a chore, greenside up for evermore.

Oh Jessie, I was watching this at the end of the day, after a big gardening session, with a glass of red in my hand, in Oz, and I too raised it to Steve, with tears in my eyes - for someone I'd never met! How do you put that into perspective? You could just tell he was the neighbor of your dreams, the bloke you'd happily shout a pint to at the pub, the mate you'd turn to when things were turning to shit. SO unpretentious, so genuine, so wise and knowledgeable and SO grounded. I hope that knowing he had that effect on people around the world will help all those close to him cope with his passing. Sending hugs to you and your Mum from Sydney.

Hello Jessie, Great day for a garden tour. Everything looks so good there. We are still planting and transplanting everyday right now. I was watchin your channel, Katrina's channel and Erica's Little Welch garden. She did a show with Liz Zorab and she introduced about 10 channels and Steve was one of them I am following most of those folks. It is so amazing the connections I have made in the youTube garden community in both the US and UK. Recently there are channels popping up in Portugal where folks are buying old rundown rural property and rebuilding to the former glory. Steve was a fantastic fellow. He was such a wealth of knowledge and so willing to share with everyone. He would always talk of the potty mouth garden club and so I gave it a try and never missed one since. Now I am following all the folks that are on the program. Can you Imagine how many folks are naming a plant in their garden Steve this year. Would it be great to see a world map with a star on the map in each country where someone did that? Peace and blessings to everyone..

Jessie, I felt exactly the same as you when I heard about Steve. It's a terrible disease! My mother died from it nine days after being diagnosed, the day after her diagnosis, one of my sisters was diagnosed with breast cancer and now both of my sisters are cancer survivors after my other sister also had breast cancer. He lived in the same village that my brother in law grew up in, who also used to have a plot on the same site just up from Steve. They now live in a village just across the river. I've chatted with Steve online a number of times and said that next time I was over that way I'd call over to see him and give him some rare chilli seeds. We were over visiting my sister and brother in law just before Christmas but due to time constraints I never got chance, I even had the seeds in my pocket. Steve was a wealth of knowledge, and although we've lost him, a lot of his knowledge lives on in his videos. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Fly high, Steve!

@JessieatPlot37 yes I've been asking friends from the growing world, and they reckon it takes about 4 yrs for a new variety unless you go for one that wouldn't be show standard. Jesse, I know compost there in the UK can be a bit pricey (really wish folks here in the USA would transition away from peat as well). Since it's very hard to fine peat-free compost here I've been growing for two years now in a home-made compost that is about 35-40% coco coir mixed with about 10% worm casting, ~20% coarse perlite, about 10% sieved soil from the garden (for the microbes) and the remainder is usually a bagged rough compost of leaves/branches I buy, sometimes with some of my home-made compost added in. I buy the coir in compressed bricks and they are so much fun to watch expand when you put water on them. It's been a pretty cost effective alternative. It's inspired by some of Charles Dowding's homemade compost mixes. For seed starting I just sieve the mix through a 1/4 inch screen and for potting up I use the rougher stuff, and it works great. I wouldn't go back to peat because of how easy the coir mix is to get wet, whereas getting peat compost wet when it's dried out is a real chore. Thanks for all the great videos!

I've never met Steve personally but he always answered my questions on any of his videos I truly feel like I lost a friend so can only imagine those of you especially in potty mouth garden club are feeling I loved watching him tease you all for things like a cheeky school boy. He will be sorely missed I've planted alot out this week of course they had to be "green side up". Your plot is looking fabulous by the way look forward to your next video, take care xx

Even though i never actually spoke to steve, he did answer some of my questions on youtube, funny really you watch people on here video after video and in some funny way you regard them as friends, I watch jess, sean, tony, geoff etc, the amount of knowledge is awesum. I have been a keen follower of you all and I would like to say thank you for putting it out there, good or bad you carry on. I am just starting out on my youtube journey with my home brewery (silver gardens brewery), my love of growing things is just helped by you lot on here. Please please keep up the good work, and the great vids you all put out. Thank you all once again. Carl.

When grief is still raw its often hard to know what to say, especially when you are dealing with disbelief as well. After all Steve was not really an old man. He will be missed but will live on through his channel. The information and advice he gifted the gardening world is unlikely to go out of date quickly.

His easy going manner always made me feel as if he was speaking direct to me. He also took the time to answer to comments or questions too. He would be very impressed on how beautiful Plot 37 is looking. You have so many different varities of fruit & veg! I was as nearly as excited as you.😊 You & Mum have made a little paradise. Thanks for the tour

I’m having trouble with my French beans this year they have germinated and are now climbing up the canes but they look very weak and spindly. I tried another sort this year Blue Lake I usually grow Cobra because I have distorted leaves and curled pods but I think I’ll back to Cobra they are at least sturdier plants.

you don't need to say anything Jess, Your face said all you need to. and poor old Tony he struggled to make his Vid too. As I said on Tony's vlog. Steve was an oddity in the nicest possible way, I'd never met him but he seemed to be an old friend some how, and no one had a bad word about him- something that you can't say about a lot of folks. So its down to you guys to carry his mantle on. you'll not replace him just be as good as you can and help as much as you can and you'll have done him proud.

A very sad week, Steve will be missed . What is happening with French beans not germinating this year.... I have planted nearly 200 beans , only 40 have germinated. Not compost, as I resulted to starting them on kitchen roll, still patchy germination ☹On the upside I have just started making the second batch of elderflower cordial, and planning to try making some rhubarb cordial . Don't forget to net your Apricot tree, otherwise the birds will get them before you do. Stay safe, love to you both. Xx

@@JessieatPlot37 I think that is one solution, also it may be due to Covid seed shortages and the scramble to have seed available ( perhaps not all top grade seed supplied ) . Slightly off subject, The gardening club ( old Adrian Hall ) have bulbs for £1 per pack, I went this morning and picked up a few bags of Gladioli corms 25 in pack for £1 each ...just couldn't resist, Geraniums are 4 for £5 massive healthy plants.
