Jess, you could have arches on that side near your plot neighbor. Keep the walkway next to him and place the arches inside the beds near him going over the perpendicular walkways. If the slugs are not decimating the plants that are in that end of the beds. Also, having the girlies out and about will decrease the insect pressure.

Aubergines i have the typical black beauty, long black and the light purple ones with white lines , tsakoniki… id translate it if i knew what it meant 😂😂…. This is my fourth year growing now.. i started off with herbs on my kitchen window which escalated to shelves then to a 5mtr poly then i built a raised bed around the poly lol.. i made potato planters out of my old oak kitchen doors.. once ya start that’s it!!!…. 😂 i will try to grow anything… i even started a pomegranate last yr and i sprouted three black fig trees from seed and a grape vine… even got awaphui growing which is a wild ginger which produces these red flowers which produce foam for shampoo…🤞🙏.. non of me friends are into really just me.. but they all want your food when its grown..😂

💚💚💚Jessie, thank you for your videos. You inspire me. And teach me a lot. I grow about 20 varieties of jalapenos that are not very hot, because I don’t like very hot ones. But I like their different colors: rat, green, orange and yellow. This variety of jalapeno colors lifts my spirits. I have been growing eggplants for many years from my saved seeds. These are simple purple eggplants, but very suitable for my garden. I have a small garden, but I try to try a lot of things. I also grow a large collection of beans and corn. Thanks again for your videos. 💚💚💚

Spent a happy hour this morning on the sofa watching this with a cup of tea. Thank you Jessie, I look forward to your videos each week. Pepper variety I'm trying this year is a bell pepper called King of the North (recommended by Eli and Kate and supposedly good for cooler climates). I'm growing the Violet Knight aubergine (purple version of the white one you have). Chillies: Bulgarian Carrot, Aji Lemon, Hungarian Yellow Wax, Jalapeno, Kashmiri Goa, Kerela Kerela and Ancho. Some of them have popped up but they were in the airing cupboard so they're pale and need some light! I need to get the grow lights out pronto! I'm looking forward to growing some of them outside (like Bulgarian Carrot) as they're supposed to be a bit more hardy than other chillies. Fingers crossed.

Went a bit mad this year with seed buying 😂. Last year was the first year of getting back into growing things, not had the space or an allotment. Unfortunately due to illness and injury the garden was finished in time to get the plants out but not in time to fruit so keeping fingers crossed for this year. Going for multiple varieties to try loads before I settle on my favourites. Aubergines: Chinese Green Round, White Casper, F1 Galine, Early Long Purple 2, Thai Orange, Striped Toga. Chillis: Korean Gochu, Hot Thai, Buena Mulata, Pearls, Spangles, Thunder Mountain Longhorn, Sugar Rush Peach, Shishito, Sweet Banana. Sweet Peppers: Alma Paprika, F1 Snack Mixed, Tangerine Dream, Colour Spectrum, Winner, F1 Cardinal, Corno di Toro Rosso, California Wonder, Habanada.

Hey! Fab update (as always) I really appreciate how authentic you are -very brave being you for all of us randoms😉…. Definitely not something I’d have the confidence to do…but for those grey dark days in winter when I feel I need cheering up I do appreciate your (and others like JB/Tony etc) back catalogue of summer vids.. so a thousand thankyous for that 😊. You asked on varieties -This year I’m trying to rationalise varieties but grow more of each….so I’ve picked 3 peppers Frigitello, Californian wonder & Padron. I’m doing 3 Chilli’s- De cayenne (which I do every year and is my staple) I’m also doing Kashmiri and Anaheim. finally for aubergine I’m also doing 3 varieties.. I do Moneymaker every year as the bulk standard and find it very good, but this year I’m adding in Black Beauty and a Kew variety called pinstripe (black & white stripey)… I planted mine along with the Boxing Day onions.. so they are all up - which I now look lovingly at each day. Not doing the cucumber.. because I’m not a huge cucumber fan..but your thought on the melon has made me curious - so I think I’ll do that experiment with you. BTW loved seeing Nemo and Crush in the aquarium 🤣.

Although I have to wait for another month as I live in Oklahoma, in zone 7b. Loved you fish aquarium tour love it. Lily had such a beautiful eyes and face not sure what bread she is. And she don’t even bother your chickens, was watching in the video and thought oh no… but she just walked on past them. I'm trying habanadas again this year. I sowed some last year but for some reason they stayed super tiny and just weren't growing. I pulled them out and replaced with a couple of shishito peppers from the nursery.
@dlsdyer907111 ай бұрын
@@kimberlyearly8918 The habanadas needs a longer growing season just like the tobasco. I got two just before freezing time. I have it wintering over in a pot in my dining room and it is just starting to push a bunch of new growth and drop last season’s leaves. All my first year peppers were slower than normal last year. The wintered over ones had me picking June 1. They are living in large pots with extra space at the bottom to hold water. Once the weather turned, we pulled them into the garage where there is laundry and a water heater. Two weeks ago I picked a kale peon and several salad peppers. The garage has light coming in from a window. A small window over a standard door and a row of reinforced windows built into the garage door. It’s not a whole lot of light, but enough.

@@kimberlyearly8918 Did some more reading. They need heat to germinate. They need to be set out at least two weeks after tomatoes. They need really warm soil even then. The suggestion is a mini greenhouse after that. If you have mild summers, it’s a good bet that they won’t do too well.

Hello Jessie, this year I am only going to grow two kinds of aubergine plants. The Listada de Gandia and the Ping Tung. The Listada is a medium size compared to the black beauty. The white knight looks just like the Ping Tung only it is white. I have grown all four of these and this year I'm gonna focus on just these two. So I think you'll be happy with the ones you're going to grow. This year I am changing my focus to growing fewer varieties of everything and maybe more of those I choose. Sort of like the single seed challenge where I'm trying to get the best out of each individual variety. I grow an ajvarski pepper which I will use along with the listada aubergine. I roast both of these peel them he raised them together with some other spices creating a sauce that I put into smaller jars and cans to be used throughout the year has a spread or a dip. It is an Eastern European sauce made with many different recipes. My wife is Slovakian and so we cook a lot of recipes from that region combining them with all the other recipes we have. There's a lot of fusion going on. So the intention is to grow the ingredients that I want to use and preserving and or cooking for the year because many of these items you cannot buy at the store and cannot afford to buy on the Internet. It was really great seeing you more regular on the potty mouth and the episode with Tony this week. Also the extra episode you put out this week. Cya next week take care bye for now. Steven

I can't grow aubergines unfortunately. I've only got windowsills - no polytunnel or greenhouse - and all my space is taken by chillis peppers. Chillis come first for me. Maybe one day I'll have space for both. In terms of Chillis I'm growing: Razzmatazz - a small multicoloured annuum chilli. One of those that are seen as ornamental but I love the taste. I use them fresh on Chinese food. Very beautiful plants with the different yellow, orange, purple and red fruits but also the foliage has lovely small, dark green leaves. Killian - An orange cayenne. I always grow a regular unnamed red cayenne for chilli flakes but it's not very productive so wanted something better and this was recommended by the owner of Sea Spring Seeds. Will see how they get on. Joe's Long Cayenne - Same as above. I never have enough chilli flakes to last through the year so I'm hoping growing a really long chilli like this will mean a greater overall yield. I usually also grow hotter chillis like Habanero/Scotch Bonnet which I tend to use for fermented sauces but I'm having a break from that this year. Had a disaster with last years ferment going bad so have been a bit put off from doing ferments. Maybe will get back on that next year.

Cheers to seed starting! On this side of the pond I just started a few ghost peppers, trinidad scorpions, some sugar rush stripey and a datil cross. My go to aubergine is always Patio Baby because it grows so well outside, but I may try a chonkier variety this year also - you never know what might "jump" into the cart at the garden centre. Looking forward to watching your pepper farm take shape! ;-)

Love the channel, not missed a single episode, hit the like button too 😊. One other small question do you plan still to extend the size of your polytunnel, i think if you did it would be great, or if not maybe you could make a low plastic tunnel on a bed just for some of your lovely peppers or some melons later in the year.

The sound was fine however, I''m having trouble feeling sorry for your temps near 0 as we reached -45C over the weekend where I live. LOL I have successfully grown Minnesota Midget but must put it in the most protected, hottest full sun plant space I have. If you like the flavour of sunflower, they are very easy to grow microgreens in a shallow tray of soil. You can even use sunflower bird seed. Also mung beans make great bean sprouts from beans purchased at a bulk food store. You can grow them in a strainer in a dark place, just rinsing twice daily for 4 or 5 days. Yummy crispy sprouts. I'm planning on going away in April, so it's a bit scary to leave all the seedlings I'll be growing with someone else caring for them. What were the peppers you sowed before Red Bullhorn? I think you only planted 3 seeds???
