A little heads up. The crease tool works only inside Maya. So don't use it if you're going to export your model elsewhere. You'll end up with a regular edge.

Maya Toolbelt anytime wanna know did you teach yourself maya or did you go to school for this
@mayatoolbelt
@mayatoolbelt 9 жыл бұрын
Stephon Edmond I did go to school for it, which gave me a foundation in the basics. The vast majority of what I know has come from experience with the program and just playing with different things. School alone didn't cut it, but helped get me started.

Thank you for such comprehensive and detailed explanation! Subscribed! By the way, I'm using Maya 2015 and it doesn't display the attributes like you (minute 3:00) How can I set that to be displayed? Regards!

Thank you for your concise tutorial on so many tools in Maya! Subscribed and turned ad block off ;) By the way, is there a way to harden the creased edge in maya's smooth preview?

The majority of my personal experience has been in the video game industry, so I personally have not used this tool all that much. It's, in my opinion, more appropriate for pre-rendered applications, such as film, video, etc. That's just my opinion, though. In games, I typically used the Harden Edge command to get creases and harder edges in my models. On this KZbin channel, I try to make videos going over everything and not limit it to tools and commands that are specific to my experience in the game industry.

What about hard edges I'm havering trouble there are weird shadows near some edges of my model.
@mayatoolbelt

Chris Bandy Does softening the edges help? If not it might be a Normals issue, where the normals on either side of the hard edge are reversed from each other. Let me know if you need more details on how to check for that.

LA VERDAD NO ME GUSTÓ EL TUTORIAL. LA EXPLICACION ESTUVO BIEN, PERO NO MOSTRÓ COMO QUEDÓ EL OBJETO. EN TODO EL VIDEO EL OBJETO ESTÁ SELECCIONADO Y NO SE PUDO VER COMO QUEDÓ. FUE MUY INCÓMODO. ¡¡ LA PRÓXIMA VEZ, QUÍTELE ESAS ESTÚPIDAS LINEAS VERDES DEL OBJETO PARA VER COMO QUEDÓ !!!

15 mins is way too long. Good tutorial but way too long. This could have been condensed into 5 minutes. I know this is an old video but I see you also recently posted freeze transformations which is 13 mins long. I'm not trying to rag on the videos, just give a suggestion since most of the comments here don't critique. Personally when I'm trying to see how to use a tool in maya, I'm either trying to use it or was only curious because I didnt know its function. In both of those cases, I only need a quick answer. I try to click on videos less than 7 mins long, if it's less than 2 its probably either perfectly condensed or completely useless, but anything less than 7 mins I'll prefer. 13 mins isn't super long especially when I can 2x speed and skip through the video, but when I'm looking for a quick answer and have to search through multiple tutorials because some have misleading titles, the whole process isn't fun. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, I just wanted to give my opinion. Also, great idea with your uniform font that you have on all your video thumbnails, they definitely stick out among the rest. I feel rude writing a paragraph whining and only a sentence of praise, but I took the time to write all this because this is a great channel and I think would be perfect if the videos were a little quicker to the point (like how crease usage starts at 3:00 and effects are shown at 5:00) thanks for reading all this, :) sorry for being a jerk

Not a jerk at all! I appreciate the feedback! I do try to show the basic information first before diving into all of the details of the tool's options. The reason a video going over a tool might seem long is just that, I try to show what all of the options do as well as the basic use. If you watch a video, get the basic usage in the first few minutes and don't need to know much about the rest of the options, so be it. But if you're interested, the info is there for you to watch if you want to. I'll make an effort to get through the "basics" so to speak a little quicker in my videos.
