Very useful tutorial. One more tip that you didn't explicitly cover -- when dragging a preview point along an edge, when the percentage of the edge length displays then holding down the shift key will cause snapping. By default it's to 10 percent increments but I'm guessing that is determined by the same percentage setting that you showed incrementing the angle between two points.

good stuff perfect explanation - thanks! - quick question other than slicing is there a method to lets say i want to cut a star in the middle of a cube and i want that cut to go through the other side? Ive been cutting 1 side and and extruding atm and dont know if thats the best way to go.

I think in that scenario, I might instead create a star shape and use Mesh > Booleans to cut the star shape out of the cube.

very unclear tutorial. If someone is looking up a basic maya function, its likely they are new to maya so going slower is recommended
