I still think Mercedes-Benz should invest in Maybach as a separated brand. The issue with last models, were their design too similar to the S-Class. If they created a completely different and exclusive exterior design, they could target some of the Rolls-Royce market.

I agree. Exclusivity is the name of the game. Any person can see a Rolls on the street and know it's a Rolls. How does the average person differentiate this from the ordinary GLS that is half the price? Car enthusiasts know what to look for, but I'm certain Moe and Mary Millionaire wouldn't be able to tell the difference if Bob Billionaire rolled up in this. Different exterior design. Also, they should install the newest S-class interior into the Maybach first, even before the S-class, to drive sales to Maybach before Mercedes eats into their sales.

They should but I just don't think they want to, they want everything to be a Mercedes first, I mean Christ, they put out the current Maybachs in the last few years, threw a Maybach symbol on the sides and then put a Mercedes star on the front, back and steering wheel etc. The Maybach models shouldn't have a Mercedes star or nameplate anywhere on them.

They tried that in the early 2000’s and they didn’t sell many $300-400k Maybachs. I agree that Maybach now just feels like an option package on the S and GL Class. On the S-Class you can even get the executive seating package without going Maybach.
