Love my Mazda 2, 1.5 litre manual. Well sorted chassis and suprisingly quick. Looks great too.

P.S, this has the most attractive body design in it's class. Dare I say it is irresistibly "cute as a button"? This car really grows on you. The more you drive it, the more you WANT to drive it. It does not have brute force power but it reminds me of how fun the old Mercury Capris and the Toyota Celicas, and the Volkswagon Scirocco were back in the mid to late 1970's. It embodies the cute, fun to drive factor the cars of yester year in this category had and shows how all cars in this category are meant to be From the base Sport model to the more expensive Touring model, you cannot go wrong with this zippy little car that sticks like glue to the road in twisty turns. It also has a button on the dash for traction control and is an absolute snow mobile in the winter. In fact, it's the best winter car I have ever owned! Everything about this car is proper and FUN! Just like the reviewer in the video said. The window view is amazing and amazingly safe! The Fit and the Yaris have tiny rear windows that are down right dangerous to use to try and back out without killing a pedestrian. This is the only one that makes sense!

P.S, I have a 2013 American version that does not have the strange/funky glove box but man am I impressed by this little car! I purchased it with cash from an insurance claim. I only had $14,000.00 American and got it for $13,500.00 out the door with tax and title included. This was the only NEW car I could afford at that price without financing. Looking back, I'm really happy I was limited in this budget because I probably would have never considered this little car even as a test drive otherwise, all I can say is this thing will absolutely amaze you with how much fun it is to drive! In fact, it really is the only one in it's category that truly is fun to drive and not just a daily sluggish commuter. Mainly because of Mazda's "Zoom Zoom" approach to making cars. It may only get 35mpg instead of the 40mpg the Ford FIesta produces but it really is worth the 5mpg sacrifice to enjoy such a peppy and fantastic handling car! It may not be a hot rod but holy crap! It really is the ultimate daily commuter. Especially for city driving. I originally wanted a Honda Fit but because I wasn't financing I could not afford the $4,000.00 extra. Lucky for me because this little Mazda 2 runs circles around it. The only advantage the Honda Fit has over it is the Magic Seats in the back that give you SUV level cargo capacity. It may only have 100hp but this car only weighs 2,350lbs! In fact, it's over 700lbs lighter than the Ford FIesta. That's why even though the Fiesta has 120hp, it's just not as quick and it just can't handle the curves like this little Mazda. Horsepower to weight ratio anyone?Also, I am 6'2'' and the room inside this thing is amazing! I originally thought it would be cramped someone my height but there is plenty of room to stretch out. If you are considering a car in this category, test drive them all. The Toyota Yaris, the Nissan Versa, and the Honda Fit and you will see for yourself, this really is the clear winner.

My Mazda2 has been nothing short of superb; best little car I've ever had. It's a shame we can't opt for those projector beam headlamps in the USA, though. They really pull the whole look together in front.

TS trim is in Insurance group 3, so that's like paying £5k for the car+ £3k on insurance. Group 1 or 2 is most likely to be found in Polo S or basic Corsa.

I currently own this car and it's my fifth year with it (almost sixth), i think this is the best hatchback you can possibly buy for the price, it's an awesome car, but it still has it's cons. Pros -Super silent (it sounds almost turned off when you're at 1000 rpm) -Suspension is hardened in this sport version (no wobbles, sporty feel) -Spacious trunk -Spacious front and back seats -Brakes are ahead of the game for this price -Super grip, it beats any car of this price tag Cons -Tires are super thin and you can feel every little bump quite a bit more compared to other cars, i have various irregularities on my rims for this reason. -The dashboard and the windshield are a bit too big, the car catches a lot of heat from sunlight and becomes EXTREMELY hot in a matter of minutes when you leave it parked in the summer. -Abs never really did its job right, i crashed today because the abs blocked my brake pedal too early and the car literally didn't even start to slow down... yup, lucky i'm still alive actually. -Steering column is starting to wear out and give some problems.

Man that is terrible, is this car reliable? Is it expensive to maintain?
@y67uuj8 жыл бұрын
Carlitox b ive had it for 4 years and never spent anyhting on it other than tires and gas. The steering coloumn weared out because the roads where i live are full of potholes. Based on experience i think this car is the best in it's category, i tried a lot of similar cars (fiat 500, toyota yaris... etc.) and i have to say this one is far superior, the interiors have a premium feel and look, the gearbox is ahead of the game and it can be a really good car to drive in the city too. Its not too big, its quite fast, lightweight, and the hard suspension is perfect if you like to have a little fun.

I am looking into buying 2009 model for my wife. I noticed most popular are 1.3 engines, but some are 1.5 sport. Which one would you recommend? I was thinking 1.5 , but not sure if the suspension is any different than 1.3 . Are there any other major differences between 1.3 and 1.5 versions?

And, most amazing of all, we get more horsepower and more mileage, all from the same displacement! I'm a baby boomer who has been known to wax nostalgic about 60s era British roadsters such as the MGA, and 60s era American muscle cars such as the Pontiac GTO. But when we take a closer look at the numbers, we suddenly realize we're actually better off today. By the way, great reviews! Keep up the good work.

When a car is fun to drive, you'd be dissappointed when the journey is over, Mazda's are just so much fun, great manual gearbox and handling of a MX-5 in a supermini, anyone who says Polos are fun, duhhhh... they don't know a drivers car -.-

Yes! Sometimes we forget how much automotive engineering has advanced. So much so that entry level econoboxes such as the Mazda 2 and Honda Fit are actually sport cars in disguise. 1964 Mini Cooper S: 0-60 in 12.9 sec 2012 Mazda 2: 0-60 in 8.9 sec Source: zeroto60timesdotcom

I have it down to the '13 Mazda2 and the '14 Fiesta S. Mazda2 is $12900 and the Fiesta is $13485. Probably gonna go w/ the Fiesta. Mazda2 doesn't get the mileage, and the Fiesta handled just about as well in my drive. The M2 gearbox may be a bit better. The M2 has no telescoping steering wheel, and no key lock for the psgr side. Any input?

I had one of these Mazda 2's and tbh I hated it! The gearbox was not that smooth, the brakes clunky and the wheels would have a common tendency to lock up in the wet which gave me no confidence at all. The road noise was ridiculously too high, the suspension was the worst bit. Way, way too firm for a small car. I also found the interior plastics would mark very easily as would the exterior paint. Plus for a 1.3 it was too thirsty,, I never got any more than 36mpg out of it and that was driving it carefully. I had too, it cost too much to put my foot down! I know it's a Mazda, but I honestly think it's an awful car! A Ford Fiesta which is the Mazda's sister car is far, far more comfortable and refined to drive. Ford got the car right, Mazda got it badly wrong. Go for the Ford.

Not to noisy for a petrol engine? C'mon! There's nothing more noisy than a stinky diesel engine that sounds like it's knocking so much that it's about to throw a rod. I'm not sure but it's probably a European preference for some strange reason. I mean, who wants their car to sound like a semi as well as stink like one?
