Tiny overlooked Lorath character fact that no one calls attention to: The speech pattern of Jaquen Hagar is Lorathi but only the Lorathi nobility, who pay tribute to the blind religion that took up residence in the maze maker ruins. This means that if Jaquen Hagar is the “real” face of that faceless man, he is a noble... like Arya. And perhaps the house of black and white chooses nobles as acolytes. However, if Jaquen Hagar is not that faceless man’s real face, then this is the face of a Lorathi noble the house of black and white assassinated and took his face. I just think it’s interesting that no one calls attention to the fact that the world of ice and fire dropped the information Jaquen’s 3rd person esc speech pattern of referring to himself as “a man” instead of “i” or “myself” and others like arya as “A girl” instead of “you” or “she” ... is only a Lorathi nobility practice, rather than a common Lorathi style of speech. And as far as I know he is the only Lorathi character in ASOIAF is Jaquen .... so this is almost deliberately giving us the information about Jaquen specifically , letting us know that it’s somewhat important to note that he is nobility

@@serielmcleod1900 Well it's been established that a skinchanger recognises a skinchanger, which is probably the reason Jaquen sought out Aryas help instead of anyone else's. Also, just looking at numbers, 1 in a 1000 people are skin changers, and there are a 1000 faces in the house of black and white. The HoBW takes in about 3 people a day (so roughly a thousand a year) and they've been around for a 1000 years, so they should have roughly a million faces, but instead they only have a 1000. Sidenote: there's another connection between the HoBW and the weirwoods/shade of the evening trees. Whilst they don't use paste or wine, the incense Arya smells has the same effect (starts smelling horrible but then smells nice and comforting).

This is brilliant - the Fisher Queens marrying into the Great Empire, it explains how both major features (maze, fused stone) appeared in the base of the Hightower. A maze as a connection to the Old Ones and the Fisher Queens, but built with fused stone via dragonriders from the Great Empire. (The maze in Lorath is blocks, not fused stone.)

The maze structures also point back to the Minoan Civilisation of Crete, whose palaces inspired the later legend of the Labyrinth of King Minos, where the Minotaur of Crete was housed, and to the large structures of the contemporary Mycenaean Civilisation whose huge palaces were so large later Greeks imagined that they had to have been built by giant cyclopes rather than ordinary men

Crete did not inspire the legend of the Labyrinth....that is the exoteric explanation, which is wrong. The surface level esoteric explanation (esoteric has many levels, perhaps infinite), is that it comes from the massive Labyrinth in Egypt, greater than the great pyramids, a truly massive underground complex. This motivated King Minos to build his Labyrinth; it has nothing to do with palaces of Minoan civilization inspiring the legend; if it is 'just a legend,' what inspired it was the Labyrinth In Egypt, not a 'palace' on Crete. Exoteric understanding is always so incredibly dumb, I don't know why anyone believes it (and funnily enough, almost all of academia works exclusively in exoteric explanations.... at least publicly)

I was watching a SciShow video on Doggerland - an area of land that used to connect England to the European mainland until it was flooded. This immediately reminded me of the broken arm of Dorne. The first Khal -Mengo united the Dothraki and began the conquest, was compelled to do so by his reputed witch queen -Dosha. More matriarchy. Maybe inspired by the Fisher Queens or a surviving tradition from them. Another root of the Dosh Khaleen that the Dothraki took with them over the Bone Mountins is probably the Moon Singers of the Jogos Nhai.

@@jonhauge-evaldsson783 Doshi was his mother, to be specific. I think that's a Kublai Khan reference. Worth considering: Maester Aemon implies to us that Valyrian is a gender-neutral language (PtwP could be a princess, dragons having that self-induced sex change thing that reptiles do), so maybe the Great Empire was always ruled by women, and the Blood Betrayal story is a fable by the later, more patriarchal YiTish culture to justify excluding women from power. "The Opal Emperor tried to upend the natural order and make his daughter his heir..." they would say, "but yadda yadda then the Long Night happened." I mean, Rhaenyra was used as a cudgel against every possible female claimant after her, so there's a parrallel in the text. In that case, the Fisher Queens might have been the same culture as the Great Empire. Or maybe not. Just spitballing here. But remember: these legends are modern retellings of ancient history. They will contain contemporary social priorities. One of the main features of the Great Empire myth is that it includes all nearly all the land of Yi Ti at its territorial height, and some. For a currently disunited Yi Ti (three God-Emperors; local rulers acting autonomously from any central authority), this would be a powerful element of a golden age myth, that of their country united at home and expanding abroad. We must keep an open mind, as there is still two books left to be revealed, and who knows how many side projects. Will we ever know for sure who the Velaryons fought for in the First Blackfyre Rebellion?

Nice video once again! You made me think about a parallel I was not aware of before, but which might have been discussed in the fandom before: Might Azor Ahai's three attempts to temper Lightbringer all refer to the same person? Given that he and the Bloodstone Emperor are variations of the same mythical figure (which I also believe), the Amethyst Empress might stand for all of it: 1. water = reference to her Fisher Queen's heritage 2. lion = her role as a tiger woman from Leng 3. Nissa Nissa as his wife I've alsobeen wondering why the Amethyst EMpress stands out as the only woman among so many male rulers that came before her, and your theory and comparison to Dorne and the Rhoynar definitely makes sense. However, this would mean that the marriage to the "original" tiger woman that changed the rules of succession must have happend previous to the birth of the AE and the BE, if we stick to a more literal interpretation of the legends, otherwise the AE wouldn't have been prior to her brother in the line of succession. If the BE married a tiger woman, and this tiger woman refers to the AE, then this would not only mean that they practiced incest (which wouldn't be surprising give the links between the GEOTD and Valyria), but would also put the AE in a position in which she could fulfil at least the roles of sacrice #2 & #3 quite easily. Sounds like something LML might have already discussed, but honestly still trying to catch up with his theories due to his super long videos and podcasts. Yours are much more concise! Anyway, I would be interested to hear your thoughts about that! :)
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Glad you liked it! That is correct. The amethyst empress and the bloodstone emperor would be the product of that union. @@TheDisputedLands I think you got me wrong, I did not want to imply that I might have heard your theory about the connection between Leng and the Fisher Queens before - I certainly did not. ;-) I was rather wondering whether anyone has ever thought about the tiger woman and Azar Ahai's lion referring to the same person/thing, since it is already widely believed that tiger woman = Lengii woman and Amethyst Empress = Nissa Nissa. That's something I haven't heard yet, but I'm not reading theories on westeros.org or anywhere else regularly, so I might have missed it. I dont know if it's already said or discussed (recently discovered this channel), but could the Andals not have been related or something to the Sarnori or the mazemakers? I think that Huhzor and Hugo as names for legendary first kings are a bit to similar. The facts that they originate of the Axe (which lie somewhere in between Lorath and Sarnath), their first king of Sarnor Huhzor Amai assimilated the Zoqora, who are described as pale haired (Andals?), the fact both the Andals and Sarnori fought against the Hairy Men. Could be a stretch, but I think it's a maybe worth a look.

Its not a stretch. There are ideas that the andals may have somehow been one of the three civilizations consolidated by huzhor amai. In fact there are some theories being thrown out there that the faith of the seven might be related to the church of starry wisdom so those are some good thoughts there.

Seems like an obvious reference to Elric of Melnibone to me. The Melniboneans had a labyrinth to protect their island from invasion by the sea. The ships would come in, and be surrounded and attacked in the labyrinth, destroying them. Since GRRM uses the worldbook to reference many inspirations and pay omage to older authors, I figure this is just one of the handful of Elric references he put into the series. The story of the Mazemakers is the same too, once a globe spanning empire, who were slowly forced back and eventually disappeared from the world. Alot of the weird races GRRM includes are probably references to Conan. Basically, the entire worldbook is mostly just a giant book of references, and probably not really that cogently connected except to perhaps share some themes with the main story.

Walking the way of the pattern to wisdom is a reference to the late Roger Zealazny's Amber series (which features a Corwin (a deviation name of a lot of characters) and an Oberon) he also the author of Lord of Light and tends to be referenced heavily by Mr. Martin. I think the maze patterns everywhere are a nod to him in much the same way as all the Lovecraft references.

I love this video and the connections you have made between the maze makers on Lorath and the Sarnoi and the civilization of Leng. If I recall correctly, when GRRM was first starting to write the books, he had intended on the Targaryens/Valyrians being more like pyrokinetic people that were able to perform pyromancy with mind control. He credits a female friend of his with giving him the idea to include dragons and use this as the source of the Valyrian’s control over the element of fire. Since I believe that the Valyrians and their dragons do share a type of psychic connection, I think a great deal of what you are saying makes sense. I believe through genetic manipulation and fire magic, Valyrians were able to “take on an aspect” of a dragon, which is what gives them some of their peculiar abilities such as being much more resilient to disease, being more resistant to heat, and being able to combine/join their own personal wills with a dragon they have bonded with or claimed. This makes the Valyrian individual and the dragon’s will one and the same and is how they can control them without making dragons their “slaves”. That’s why their bloodline is important and why dragons withered and died once subjugated and locked away. The rider and dragon are stronger when near one another and weaker when apart. When you mentioned the warlocks opening Danaerys’ third eye and her consumption of the shade of the evening, it reminded me of the same type of reaction and effect that occurred when Bran was fed the possibly cannibalistic weirwood paste and when Arya first enters the house of black and white. Since Euron used the shade of the evening to open his third eye and also used it to force Aeron to open his, it makes me wonder about the true meaning of the test that is administered at the citadel to maesters seeking to earn their chain in the higher mysteries. According to the books, they lock the acolyte in a pitch black room and see if he can “light” the candle. Unless there is more behind it, I believe the maesters have the right idea, but are going about lighting the Valyrian glass candles the wrong way. Since Marwyn and Lady Dustin both believe the maesters do not have room for real magic in the world they are shaping, perhaps this is why the test takers fail. Only since the return of magic and fire made flesh by Dany’s dragons, have students of “magic” been able to open their psychic third eye and “light” the candles. Marwyn and Quaithe have mastered this and perhaps more can do so with the right knowledge, which Marwyn’s group and Bloodraven seem to have access to. This allows them to influence people and events. I have yet to watch your video on the weirwood trees and the ebony trees of Essos, but I will be doing so shortly. Could the oily black stone and whatever properties it carries that seem to have destroyed Ashhai and its landscape, as well as keeping the jungle from reclaiming the city of Yeen , possibly have been a source of corruption within the weirwood network that seems to spread across the planet through all the underground tunnels, etc. The Ebony trees and the shade of the evening seem way too closely related in their appearance and effects on those who consume their sap to be just a coincidence. Perhaps the shade of the evening and the trees from which they come are a result of some corruption in the land and tree network dating back to the fall of the oily black stone. This corruption could have been cultivated by the bloodstone emperor as it is by the warlocks and Euron. I would love to hear your thought on this. Lastly, GRRM uses many allusions to Norse Mythology, and the description of those like Dany, Arya, and Bran who have consumed shade of the evening or something closely related, the tastes of meat and honey made me think of the stories in Norse Mythology where people or gods would enter into agreements or tempt one another with the consumption of meat and mead, which sounds much like the meat and honey these characters smell or taste that start almost rancid but become euphoric. It lowers their guard and allows them to be open to persuasion and psychic manipulation. I just finished your azhor ahai video and there’s a line in the world book that I am always drawn to, but it doesn’t see, to get mentioned often. I cannot remember which eastern Civilization it was, but one tells the story of how the long night was ended by AA/the last hero/etc was able to bring the dawn back to the world bc he was able to convince all the more powerful and lesser gods of the world to sing a song together that ended the long night. Your breakdown of the Fisher Queens, the Rhoynar, Leng, and the Sarnoi made me think that this is the truth behind the ending of the long night and it will take a great hero or heroes to bring all the powers together to stave off another long night. Your videos are bringing a lot of questions I had together for me and it’s fascinating to listen to! Thank you so much for your videos and the time and effort you put into them!

Nefer -nine tenth under grund! From Wiki of Ice and Fire: Nefer, referred to by travelers as the Secret City, is the capital of N'ghai, and the kingdom's last remaining city. Nefer enjoys a sinister reputation as a haunt of necromancers and torturers. Nefer is a port city located in the Further East of Essos, at the mouth of a river which ends into the Shivering Sea. North of Nefer are the Thousand Islands, while south of the city lie the Plains of the Jogos Nhai, the Bleeding Sea, and the Cannibal Sands. To the east stretch the remnants of the kingdom of N'ghai and the forests of Mossovy. Nefer is the only northern port east of the Bone Mountains known to maesters. Shrouded by fog, Nefer is surrounded by tall chalk cliffs. When seen from the harbor, it appears to be no more than a small town. Nine-tenths of Nefer is said to be beneath underground, however, giving the city its nickname of the Secret City.

There is probably a worldwide network of tunnels full of Children of the Forest. We are explicitly told they are woodland creatures, but every confirmed one we have seen has lived underground, they are said to have lived in "hollow hills", and their name for themselves means "Those who Sing the Song of Earth." They are cthonic beings, and I suspect that, given the global reach of seemingly related beings (Ifequevron, Old Ones of Leng, gods of darkness worshipped in the Frostfangs (likely by cave-dwellers), and who knows what is going on with the "shapechangers and demon hunters" of Mossovy), they are far more numerous than has been let on. So it makes sense that Nefer being 9/10ths underground probably means something important in relation tree-magic and its peoples.

@@driftsolstice3685 okay cool, just wanted to make sure i knew what you were referring to. Believe it or not, the wiki makes no reference to the third lake being erased, if you compare the two maps the third lake was moved further east. It states the line of the river was erased. Yes at first glance it seems implied becase it goes from 3 lakes to two. But ive had conversations about this in the past. The two lakes attached by the mentioned riverline (which are still unchanged despite erasure the error) remain unchanged and the third lake that was altogether separate and completely independent of this erased line appears to be gone but if you look further east you will see where it was moved to. Take a closer look at the wiki source which doesnt mention the erasure of a lake and compare the two maps and where the lakes are located.

Also seen a compelling Theory about the maze makers possibly having a connection to the inhabitants of the Isle of Leng, being that the maze essentially is a Subterranean City on its own, extending down about four whole levels and that the underground passages in the Isle of Lang are shockingly similar. #3 Euron probably believes the Azor Ahai prophecy is referring to himself when telling Aeron the red star bespoke the end. #4. The dream if the ironborn ships adrift and burning on a blood red sea will probably meet the salt and smoke criteria better thsn anything we have seen so far. #5. There are kingsblood sacrifices with the priests. #6. Only death can pay for life. #7. Euron wants to become a god. If the maze is a may "into" the wwnet, then there may be a way "out" of it as well. If euron os to become the new night's king it is my guess that he is going to let the night king escape from the godhood... and let the night king become him. This would be why he is talking about an heir worthy of "him" when he should be referring to himself in 1st person as he normally does. This would also fufill the prophecy of AA being reborn again. Euron in my opinion is the 3rd head of the dragon. This would also make him in some sense a god if he is able to pull it off.

#1. The spirits and/or souls of greenseers go into the wwnet. Even varamyr who we dont see as a greenseer but rather as just a skinchanger went into a tree when he first died, he eventually settled into his wild for his 2nd life but the 1st place he went was the godhood. We also know greenseers go into the godhood when they die. 2. Euron is trying to become a god and mentioned a "him" speaking in third person when he was refering to himself. "An heir worthy of him" when discussing taking Dany as his wife. This is not consistent with his character and suggests he was not refering himself.
