The song itself was written by two Jewish guys blending the spirit of the Jewish priestly blessing (May you...) with the nostalgia and sincerity of Auld Lang Syne. Absolutely beautiful song, and the McGuire Sisters perform it to perfection. One of my all-time favorites. My mother loved the McGuire sisters, as well, especially since she had the same first name as Phyllis McGuire.

Lyrics: May you always walk in sunshine Slumber warm when night winds blow May you always live with laughter For a smile becomes you so May good fortune find your doorway May the bluebird sing your song May no trouble travel your way May no worry stay too long May your heartaches be forgotten May no tears be spilled May old acquaintance be remembered And your cup of kindness filled And may you always be a dreamer May your wildest dream come true May you find someone to love As much as I love you May old acquaintance be remembered And your cup of kindness filled And may you always be a dreamer May your wildest dream come true May you find someone to love As much as I love you. ♥

@Mookie Spindlehurst "May You Always" is a popular song by Larry Markes (lyrics) and Dick Charles (pseudonym of Richard Charles Krieg), published in 1958. The biggest hit version in the United States was by the McGuire Sisters where it peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] In the United Kingdom, Joan Regan took her version to No. 9 in the UK Singles Chart. The song has also been covered by Bobby Vinton, Maureen Evans, the Lennon Sisters, Anita Bryant, Barbara Cook and Ian McNabb. I hope that answers your question.

@Mookie Spindlehurst the sad absence of femininity is a blight on our times; it must be blindingly obvious to you that many women have an apparent desire to appear anything but ladylike. It is evinced in the minority who take a few moments to arrange their hair, dress attractively in nice attire such as skirts and dresses, and exude an air of sweetness and care. I have no quarrel with you, so please don't write me a disparaging reply.
@nomaidens57344 жыл бұрын
And also at a time were women were treated like objects to bare children, clean and cook, the 50s were darker times than you think man.
@nomaidens57344 жыл бұрын
@Mookie Spindlehurst what are you 80? Woman had no rights whatsoever, no matter how great it was to have children some woman didn't want to have them but were forced into having them by their partner or family, im not even gonna talk about how bad they treated black and gay people
@nomaidens57344 жыл бұрын
@Mookie Spindlehurst I was just saying how women weren't treated as equals back then, they were put down by men, it hurts me to see all those women treated as if they were only to be seen not heard, I wouldn't like that to happen to Any one and I really hope that you don't think that was a good thing.

I don't love this style of music, but, as someone who has studied music and played multiple instruments in bands, I gotta say that the McGuire sisters are very talented singers. Their abilities to harmonize and their pitch are fantastic. I listened to some of these old tracks after hearing that Joni Mitchell -- whose music I love -- said she was influenced by their singing when she was young. It's a shame that I feel fewer people today really learn how to sing. The singers of the 1960s, like Joni Mitchell grew up listening to and singing along with the McGuire sisters. Jim Morrison said he was a big fan of Frank Sinatra, and you can hear the influence in his singing.

They started out singing in a Christian church back in the 1930's as small children Their mother was the pastor of the church. The sang for services, funerals, and weddings. By the late 1940's they were singing for senior and veteran homes, and the USO. Around 1952 an agent heard them singing on the radio, possibly a church program, and got them into show business. First was Kate Smith's radio program and then Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts television show on December 1, 1952. They won the competition and went on to stardom. Arthur had them on his show, possibly under contract, on a regular basis from 1952 thru 1959 while they were putting out hit records. Afterwards they were touring, performing in night clubs and Las Vegas through 1968 when they retired. They made a comeback in 1985 and toured for a number of years afterwards. I like the June Cleaver look in hairstyle, jewelry, and dress for this 1959 performance. RIP Christine, Phyllis, and Dorothy.

As i listen for the first time ( at 62 ), i can't help but think how the writers were aiming for a song that would be sung around New Year's along with Auld Lang Syne. This could be a bridge (middle 8) for Auld Lang Syne. Clever writing.
