Does anyone else think that the disturbing aspects of the McKinney Home Videos start way too soon and without explanation. The first video is just a completely normal video of a guy moving into his new home. Then in the second video, it's a completely weird walk around the neighbourhood while following a group of people around intercut with pictures of missing persons posters, screaming and strange subtitles over the footage. Like, there's no build up and explanation. It just goes from zero to a hundred between the first two videos.

this whole thing feels like a story about religion-based abuse/guilt. the text "you're no longer welcome here" flashing over a church and the phase "i won't come home again" paired with the sound of the child crying makes me think this poor guy's trying to get away from a family that's willing to ruin his life in order to drag him back into the religion. not to mention the phrase "i was never enough" (which actually hit a bit too close to home tbh) in relation to a place that's connected to his family makes me think he was constantly viewed as not being devoted enough or something like that and being punished for it. i'm also thinking that his "grandma" is actually the owner of an orphanage, hence the sound of many kids screaming at the end of the tape featuring her house.
