I have had my Artura since mid Feb and I can tell you that Doug is right on the mark.....its a stunning car! It's my first McLaren after owning 4 911's. I can tell you that it's on another stratosphere obviously given the price point. It's easy to drive in traffic to downtown Toronto, easy to push it on B roads, and easy to sneak out quietly without waking the neighbours. It's perfect for my needs. Anyone thinks this is not loud should come for a ride with me. In track mode when you gun it, around 6k rpm it screams. Maybe it's the Sports Exhaust but its definitely not quiet. When accelerating, you better hang on and pay attention to what's on the horizon because in a split second you pass it. I am still getting used to it. I cant wait till the summer tires are put on. I can't imagine the acceleration and handling with that chang given what it does with winters on. Excellent review Doug!

I am not an engineer, and I don’t really understand the technical aspects of this, but most of the high-performance car manufacturers are switching over to turbocharged V-6 engines for the sake of efficiency… Well, there have been quite a number of smaller displacement V-8 engines in the past, would a smaller displacement V-8 engine not be just as efficient as the equivalent size V6, both with turbo chargers? I would think that having more pistons for the same displacement would actually allow for higher output… But again, this is purely speculation on my part, so I don’t know. If anyone reads this is knowledgeable in this regard, and has an explanation, I would very much like to hear it! It’s some thing that I have wondered about persistently since the industry wide shift to V6 engines.

Didn’t even mention Tesla when talking about vertical infotainment screens. Yeah maybe they don’t really do it anymore but they kind of pioneered the use of the vertical screen

This is very much styled after the P1 (almost the same headlights), which is maybe appropriate given they're both hybrids.

I can't imagine the random issues and reliability problems these may have. McLaren seems to have their hand full with time tested V8s, throwing in a hybrid system may be a disaster.

In my opinion McLaren is the only company that knows how to do a great orange. Usually I'd say choose yellow or red, but this particular dark tone looks so great, especially when the sun reflects in the right angle to make it look light glowing lava🥹 edit: and I think Lamborghini should follow McLaren's example and give all of their cars scissor doors

What pisses me off is they aren’t even scissor doors, they go out too much to where it’s like a lazy butterfly door. A lot of cars have them just pick, butterfly OR scissor.

It's a pretty nice dark orange. I'd still prefer Mayan Spark, but this really isn't bad at all.

I love the exterior design language; they managed to forego sharp bits and openings that like some Lambo's have been cursed with.

Those aren’t scissor doors btw Douglas, they’re butterfly doors 👍

I really like McLarens, and the 296. But you know what other car has a turbo V6 hybrid power train with a DCT, goes 0-60 in under 3 seconds, looks amazing, has AWD, and is around half the cost? That’s right, the NSX!

For one I am thankful for the new chapter markers. It lets you know how much of the infotainment section to skip completely.

I like that they chose 'DNR' for the gear selection, basically saying it's "Do Not Resuscitate" if you wreck the thing.

This is interesting. I didn't realize the value it brought for its price. I think as cars trickle into the used car market it will probably become even more obtainable; which I think shows promise for it making a following. It has potential to hold a similar position in the super car world, compared to what something like a c8 corvette is to regular cars.

Even the sound. Some can go around the sound and make it sound amazing. Doesn't look like McLaren was able to do even that. Maybe with an aftermarket exhaust.
