I just wrote one of these. It was a rare improv moment that clicked so hard I'm saving it for anytime i need a breakdown. I made a really simple chromatic thrashy riff, 20103020 4 times and then a measure of 4 chugs, and then hit a pinch harmonic, slowed it, meshuggah'd the rhythm, made it power chords, added some extra notes, and got the hardest breakdown ever written lmao. then i hit my drop pedal to go a tritone down and started playing stacked tritones instead of power chords. This is gonna end lives in the pit when I eventually get a band going

Okay, for the next one please listen to some songs of Blood Red Throne. I'm still mad that they're this underrated even by Death Metal standards. Especially that one riff from Homicidal Ecstasy at the bridge part. Otherwise thrown has some pretty nasty ones too. All - The Orphan Breed during the first breakdown was an instant stank face. Loathe - New Faces in the Dark (especially that pre chorus riff) Spit - Deliverance (very underrated but the riffs are so awesome) CABAL - Tongues Decapitated also has some good ones too

Some riffs I find absolutely filthy: The intro of Resurrection by Chimaira but they are a nasty riff factory. 1:45 in to Threat Level No. 3 by The Black Dahlia Murder is one of the nastiest riffs ever in my opinion. Dying Wish has a ton of sick riffs, one of my favorites is a minute in to Now You'll Rot. I once described it to a friend as "making me want to punt a baby through the windshield". Wage Slaves by All Shall Perish, another band who needs no introduction. Old The Acacia Strain always gives me stank face, especially Angry Mob Justice and Skynet. The breakdown in Pillars of Serpents. It sounds fantastic in the original 03 Trivium version, their rerecording, and the Heaven Shall Burn cover. It's around 2 minutes in the original Martyrium by Hiroshima Will Burn has an absurdly disgusting breakdown 57 seconds in. I think it's the song that made me realize what a breakdown was The intro of Ten Ton Hammer by Machine Head Thin Ice by Guilt Trip 99 and D.O.A. by The Haunted Unplugged by Snot has this groovy as fuck riff it is scientifically proven to be unable to act up to. Knife in the Safe Room by Darkest Hour I could keep going honestly but not off the top of my head
