Really a nice review of a great-looking rifle. I would just add one feature that Johnny didn't mention specifically: It's a Weatherby. What that means, in this case, is for $999 (1200 GBP), you can have a nicely put-together package with some premium features AND have it chambered in either the freaky-flat-shooting, fire-breathing 6.5-300 Weatherby or the knock-'em-over 300 Weatherby Magnum. You won't be getting those chamberings in a Tikka. Weatherby makes rifles their own way since Roy founded the company. He didn't design cartridges or make rifles the way everyone else did. If you want what everyone else has, yes, you can certainly buy a generic Tikka or Remington. If you want a Weatherby...

Camo on a rifle is to lure in buyers - it does not look like a 5 grand rifle to my eye, just my opinion. For less money but lighter and more accurate with free-floating and with a 3 position wing safety and a wonderful claw style extractor Kimber Hunter ftw. It's certainly personal but I also don't like Monte Carlo stock. Nothing wrong with the MeatEater rifle but there are others on the market for the same or less which give the same or better bang for the buck (like Kimber, Savage, Bergara). Yes, I have a few rifles below $500, but in today’s market, you’ll likely be stuck with a Ruger American or a savage, maybe a few more. Those are seriously entry level and will get you basically a no frills rifle. This one is often at $900 or below, I’ve seen it at $750 and nearly bought it. It cost me $600. Once we start getting into stainless, fancy stocks, etc….we’ve just blown our wad to a $1000 gun. I’ll need to actually put my hands on this before I can justify that kind of money for a gun, but if it’s all it’s cracked up to be I’d buy a 300 WSM in a heart beat.

I've had serious issues with mine. Trigger gets "stuck" every once in a while. The rifle goes into battery and can be fired, but instead of the wonderful Vanguard trigger you get a long mushy hard pull that almost seems like you are breaking the rifle. Rack the bolt a few times (or fire the round) and it usually clears up. I've taken it to the store I bought it and they were all dumbfounded. Sent it to Weatherby and they returned it quickly without any note about what was done to fix the issue. Apparently nothing was done as it still happens regularly. I will be selling it after deer season unfortunately.
@goory933 жыл бұрын
If you like the rifle otherwise... it is just a howa action, so you could get a drop in trigger and have a much nicer trigger than you started with. A timney will run you about 130-150 bucks and in my opinion feels excellent.

When I was there last, around '92, the laws were as follows- Handguns were completely banned, no exceptions. To own a shotgun, you had to first find 2 professionals ( doctors, lawyers, etc) who would sign an Affidavit saying you were of good moral character. Then the police had to come to your home and inspect your security arrangements. A gun safe was mandatory. Then, if you already owned a shotgun when the previous laws were in effect, the police would record the make, model and serial number of each shotgun. Then you provided passport sized photos of yourself and filed the necessary forms along with a modest fee. If your request was approved, you then received your "shotgun certificate". If you held it up to your chin and dropped it, it would unfold to about your waistline. Besides the information contained about shotguns that you already owned, the form contained blank spaces. These spaces were used to record any additional shotguns, new or otherwise that you bought or acquired. If you borrowed or lent a shotgun for more than 24 hours, those actions had to be recorded on the certificate as well. All these draconian regulations were in response to a school shooting in the village of Hungerford, England. Ironically, the nutbag responsible didn't use a shotgun to carry out the murders. And yes, moderators or silencers are easy to get. To have a rifle, all of the above applied AND, the police would meet you at the property where you intended to use the rifle. Together, you would walk the property so that the police could be satisfied that if you missed your target, you wouldn't injure or kill someone. Also, unlike with shotgun, you were limited to a certain quantity of ammo for your rifle. I don't recall exactly how much but I believe it was 100 rounds. The police could, if they so chose, visit your home at any time unannounced and inspect your ammo. If you'd had your rifle certificate for a year, lets say, and had only used a few rounds out of your ammo allowance, they could if they so chose, confiscate your rifle and ammo on the grounds that you obviously weren't using it, so keeping it was pointless. I can't stress enough the phrase "if they so chose". All the cops I knew were great guys and left the shooting public alone. Again, that was along time ago and I honestly don't know what the gun laws are like nowadays in the UK. I will say that I doubt they've loosened up any.

I can shoot the cheepest center fire rifle at Walmart and do the same , kill the same game. have extra money for gas , ammo , motel room , eats for a three or four day hunt on public game lands I don’t have to lease . free baby.

I was so afraid you was going to say it was chambered in 30-06. I probably would have stopped watching at that point. I know meateater uses the 30-06 a lot but I hate it. However the .243 is an excellent cartridge. I used a .243 for years. Until about 5 years ago I switched to the .257 Roberts. I still like meateater and as long as you deliver a Humane kill that's what counts. Respect the kill

@@roger5322 what’s your reasoning for hating it?
@roger53223 жыл бұрын
@@Ricossmft28 I never said it was a ...sound dislike of it, just a dislike of it. It comes mostly from the users of the caliber and not the caliber. Bad shot placement, shooting at moving animal, heavy brush...ect. Either way they are many calibers to choice from. My choice of calibers to use is dependent on many factors. And I have a large range of guns to chose from. From : 22lr, .22mag, .218bee .22 hornet, .223rem, .243, .257 roberts, .308, .7.62×51, 6mm, 25-06, 45-70, STW, .338mag.... Are a few I have to choice from. I choose the gun and caliber to match the hunt. You on the other hand can also use whatever you choose. Peace....

Hearing a UK accent on a rifle review is soo odd to me seeing as how impossible it almost is to own firearms in the UK.

Its very easy to own rifles and shotguns, hence the TGS channel emanating from a gun shop. I even own a 357 just has to be caseless.

Hello First Aaawesome Channel :) But this Rifle is definitly not very cheap... for this price you get good sub moa rifles with free floating barrel etc... In my opinion its more a trendy thing for youtube lovers :)

It is definitely a trendy rifle, but that’s ok. Heaps of folk buy regular hats for more cash because they say The name of some football or baseball team on.

@@tgsoutdoors yeah thats right, i not say its bad its just not worth its price for someone like me :) Other Question where can i reach you guys i have nothing social media.. It’s sub MOA Accuracy guaranteed… pressure bedding is just as accurate if not more so when done properly - the benefit over free floating is the robustness.

But the internet said free floating is what real snipers use….

$1000 is NOT an affordable rifle. There are so many options available at or under $500 that will perform just as well if not better. It amazes me the gun makers are able to sell bolt action rifles for over 500 anymore.
@vitaly63123 жыл бұрын
You cannot get a great rifle like this for sub $500. I own sub $500 rifles and they’re good, but this is a much better balanced and weighted rifle, has a far superior trigger, and several other features that you simply can’t get in a cheapo rifle. Not saying that you NEED to spend $1000 on your hunting rifle, but I’m saying that there’s a difference. Just like there’s a difference between this and a $5000 rifle.

@@vitaly6312 I think what you're saying holds true with the $250 or $299 entry rifles. In my experience, and I've sold guns for 12yrs now, the folks paying $750-2000 are paying for the perception of quality, half buy them and never shoot them or use them once on a guided trip. I can get you a rifle that performs just as well for $450-600 pre scope and mounts.

I love the show and pod cast, but Steve should have reached out to a company like Bergara rather than Weatherby. A Vanguard is nothing but a Howa with a different name.

For me it was between those two. Similar price point and similar gun. I wish my Tikka has a threaded barrel though for a break.
