My late dad loved this song and would sing it to us kids ..brings back lovely memories of him sitting at our fireplace

This was favorite of my brother Louis, who died in September. He sang it when he was in grammar school. My hallmark song was "My Lagan Love," and my sister's was "The Lark in the Clear Air." All make me weepy, as both siblings have diedl. Thank you for this lovely singing.

My mother now 88 was taught this by missionary nuns in the wilds of Borneo. She was teaching me how to sing this. It was so hard I was thrilled to find this on KZbin. And am learning it from you. You have a lovely voice.

What an exquisite rendition of this beautiful song, Maureen! It was a favourite of my mother, who sadly passed away peacefully on Sunday, aged 95. She used to sing it often as it took her back to the country of her birth, her beloved Ireland. She was born and bred near Gorey, Co Wexford, not so far from the Vale of Avoca. How I would love to play it at her funeral (this coming Monday 8/12/08) but my search for a CD version has proved in vain so far. However I'll keep searching to the end!

I regret that I have not recorded The Hills of Donegal....great song.....but I have sung it on several occasions. I don't know if my voice would be able for it now.

My brother Louis sang this song, while I sang"My Lagan Love," when we were young. It was the custom to sing for the company in those days. I would like to hear "The Lark in the Clear Air," which my sister Julia used to sing, and as someone else suggested, "Love Thee, Dearest."

This song and The Lark in the Clear Air were the first 2 songs I sang and won prizes with in Feis competitions. I am sorry I have not recorded The Lark but maybe some time in the future.

@richardhanna0 I have heard that song sung many times but always by men. I must look it up....I was given an old book of all Moores Melodies. Beautiful! Maybe I will sing "At the Midhour of Night" soon.
