The ' flying fox ' is a fruit bat ,the largest of the species and is strictly a vegetarian living on fruits mostly , and it is a mammal and thus are warm blooded . In the 60s and 70s they appeared in the thousands during the fruiting season in the state of Kelantan , Malaysia , where I used to live . Now they are rarely spotted because much of the wild fruit trees have been cleared for urban development . As usual there are some people who eat them . It is a pity that man is responsible for the near extinction and extinction of other living species .

The fear usually comes from their erratic flight patterns. When seen flying at twilight, they fly in a very fast, yet unpredictable way, much different from the predictable way most birds fly, and because of their active hours, are hard to see as well. And to be fair, a fear of them could lower the likelihood of viruses spreading from bat to human, so its not completely irrational.
@jordanalandry18663 ай бұрын
The fear of them is having them inside ur home or structure and the fact that they carry some pretty virulent and serious pathogens, I know two people personally who were bitten by bats later confirmed to have rabies, one was a child.

They can carry deadly diseases, and they fly erratically as someone else mentioned. When things are unpredictable we are less inclined to be able to react effectively to any dangers. So combo that with diseases, it’s logical to be afraid of them.

corrections: 1) they're warm blooded 2) they don't just exclusively eat figs 3) they are active during the day instead of the regular bat night shifts 4) being mammals, they can readily transmit more than just one disease to people and our animals. colonies of these guys roosting near people usually result in shortened lifespans of people who already suffer respiratory diseases and give people just that if they didn't already have it as the guano not only good for seed dispersal, it's also very good at hosting dangerous airborne pathogens 5) it's not just deforestation that's to blame for the rapidly dwindling population of these guys. loss of habitat, wars, poaching, and overhunting contribute massively to this and there are no shortage of any of those in the regions where they live. also, they look like little foxes with wings and are super adorable but i would advise against petting one, especially because of #4.

Cold blooded??? What the heck? How ridiculous. Who doesn't know bats are mammals? So, you want to make a video about bats? Ok. Try to have some idea about what you're informing others about.

I know how bats aren’t nearly as bad as media makes them out to be, but I have to admit, it would be terrifying seeing one of those flying towards me!

I was flocked by a whole flock of them in the dark when I was lost on my bicycle. I hit a dead end on a road to a mangrove trees and about 20 of them came flapping out in the dark and surrounded me as they flew over. It was pretty scary.
