I do not have any issues with bats themselves, it is that awful disease rabies. Great animals otherwise.
@Amlaeuxrai2 жыл бұрын
@@judigrumm7190 not just rabies, problem is bats are "supercarriers" and most viruses and bacteria they carry don't actually affect them much due to their extremely adaptive immune systems. Hence why the "covid from bats" theory has so much traction in the scientific community - virus is in bat, bat and human don't notice, human eats bat, virus spreads throughout human population because the entire time while in the bat the virus was improving reproductive capabilities, "trying" (not conciously) to affect the bat. By the time such a zoonotic virus reaches a human by ingesting or being bitten by a bat, if it doesn't kill the human within a reasonable timeframe, it will spread extremely fast. This is not all bad tho, and the adaptive immune system of bats is being studied in an attempt to develop treatments for autoimmune diseases such as AIDS.

Flying foxes are amazingly cuddly. Just don't pet them on the back. I made that mistake once while handling a flying fox that my friend's family rescued from their yard during a storm. She (my friend's little sister named her Luna) chirped loudly and then tried to bite me. She immediately made amends by licking my fingers. Altogether, the flying fox moniker is spot-on, because they are indeed like little foxes with wings. The only real difference is that they eat fruit instead of small critters.

@O'Shack Hennessy That's right. Humans can show love and care to even a bat that is old, one-eyed and to what most people would find ugly, and terrifying/creepy. If this bat had never came across these caregivers, he would have been the weakest, least favourable, and miserable in the pack. But guess what? The moment the bat learns to talk back humans will make sure the filthy thing is 1000x more miserable than it is when it first got rescued.

Some species are believed to live up to 45 years. Fun fact; the mammalian family closest to primates are bats; their Latin name literally translates to “hand wing”. There is a small bridge species between the two; colugos, aka “flying lemurs”. Look them up; they have both primate and bat characteristics!
@ShadeSlayer1911 Жыл бұрын
@EternalxFrost depends on the species, but apparently the smaller micro bats live longer while the megs bats like this guy love around to 20 typically. But that's lifespan in the wild as well. They got better medical care and no predators in this facility.
