Its so funny watching these little ones being weened! You can tell its not from starving for milk its just the action of mom giving in! By this time the little ones are eating well and are not hungry, its just the breaking of a habit! I think humans could learn a lot from these intelligent primates! They are patient but sure!

When I see her like that, sucking her thumb and all alone, I just want to wrap my arms around her and hug her. I wish Rudy would come do that, or groom her. Deenly is such a sweet little girl and I hope as Dipidy grows up and begins to spend time away from Reddy that Reddy will be able to give more attention to Deenly. Call me crazy but I have the feeling she's going to stick pretty close to her mom. 🐒🐵❣

No. She is part of Bossy's troop. She is just low ranking and hangs out in the periphery probably being a scout or defender of the troop like her mom. She will be 5 this year and will probably conceive.

After looking at primates for years, I have never seen a wild born macaque as Dennly suck her thumb!! You once said Arroz, that to do so indicated fear or insecurity? Was she weaned too early? Ready is such a good mother, I can't imagine what went wrong....Anyone know??

Was Deenly so traumatised by weaning? I wonder if monkeys can have learning difficulties, and if so, could Deenly be a bit "slow"? Don't get me wrong. I think Deenly is cute as a button, but even humans can have issues😢

Actually a troop can manage well without an alpha male because females are warriors. A troop doesn't have many males in comparison to the females. An alpha males main role is to protect the alpha female and father her babies. He also keep some kind of peace in the troop but he has help from other males in the troop with the peace keeping. 🤓🇸🇪

I don't know about NEED but an alpha does help defend the troop and mates with the matriarch and high borns. Low borns are not as guarded from wandering males as the high borns are. An alpha male will make sure his ladies don't mate with other males. AM has filmed Skull Head chasing off males during the mating season and smelling his females to make sure no copulation has occurred. Bossy's troop has not had an alpha for a few years and the birth rate is still high. Bossy, Lancy and Dorty all conceived without an alpha. Females usually pick a male they like and mates with them for a few years per the research. Some females become bored with the male after ~ 4 years. This is why some males move to another troop. Reddy, Gypsy and Lubby seem to like Taggy whereas Dolly and Ridgy liked Grandee.

I was thinking the same thing. Or why are we seeing Dipsy so much. Boys at Dipsy and Dinky's age usually don't hang out with mom. Older boys are usually with each other on the outskirts of the troop wrestling guarding and doing boy stuff. Lol. So, I think 3 year old Dinky is with the boys and 4 year old Dipsy is being strange. Hanging with the girls and snugging with Deenly and all. Maybe his hormones are in excess and staying with the girls to protect them is his way of showing his dominance. Reddy has had a few superficial injuries of late. I find male behavior really interesting. Hopefully we will see more episodes documenting male macaques' behavior.
