So in the script, it just called for Margot to sit there and cry upon finding out Tyler brought her there knowing she was going to die. Anya herself said no, and that's how we got her just straight up losing her shit on him. Here's the full quote: "I have a thing about feminine rage. Which people think for some reason and this is no disrespect to any writer - I get a lot of, like, 'men doing really terrible things' and women sitting silently while one tear slowly falls. And I'm like, "Oh no no no no no. We get mad, and angry."

I personally love it. That moment before she demands the cheeseburger, where you see her make up her mind and say "F this" to the entire situation. And you can absolutely get it, she had no business being here and it's only because of Tyler that she's been lumped into this.

30:57 That's the whole point! Margot, not being of the elites, understands the whole shtick. That Slowik insults them with the meals (breadless bread plate) and can understand him because she also comes from a poor family. And she understands that it was this simple yet lovely made food with passion that was Slowik's dream, which got destroyed when the elites wanted more and more high standards but they didn't even engaged in eating, only criticizing and treating it like just another day because they can afford it. Hence Slowik telling them at the beginning, not to eat but savour etc. Because Margot showed Slowik that she saw through him and understood him and thus impressed him, he allowed her to leave.

2 Fun facts, both involving John Leguizamo: His role was based on Steven Seagal, who he had a bad time with filming "Executive Decision". And while filming the cheeseburger scene, everyone ended up so hungry because it was a real burger and not a prop, like the rest of the food in the movie, that he ended up ordering burgers and fries for the cast.

In another part of the original script, it mentions a) Chef was found running a taco truck outside a Food Expo, and it was "the happiest he'd ever been", and Lillian ruined that with the interview that made Hawthorne into a reality. b) Margot calling him out on the fact that he parked his taco truck outside the Food Expo KNOWING Food critics were going to be there.

The reason why Margot asked for a cheeseburger is because she saw that the chef started his career in a small restaurant making burgers and he was really happy at that time... So that's why he is legit happy because it's simple and people enjoys it... He doesnt have to reinvent and think about every little think for the menu... It's just a cheeseburger and Margot wasnt supposed to be there anyway... So she had the right to watch the shit show burn aflame...

The thing I like about the chef is that he's not really a villain He's definitely not a good person, but he literally admits that he's psycho but doesn't care because he thinks that the people deserve what's coming to them Hell, he even admits that most of the reasons are petty when he tells John Leguizamo (the actor dude) that he's only there because his movie sucked and "ruined his weekend" And of course, Ralph Fiennes absolutely kills it as the chef

@@mikhailiagacesa3406 i haven’t either because i have trouble reading. But I’ve read the synopsis and seen 3 adaptations of the red dragon story multiple times. I know none are all accurate, manhunter changes Dollarhyde death and wills fate. Red dragon changes the final confrontation and wills fate. And Hannibal changes the story so much it’s pointless to list the changes. Point is I know how the story is supposed to go and how it’s different in each adaptation. I also have a pet peeve of people casually leaping to cannibalism so much it seems cleché. In The Menu people watching it all assume the twist is they’re eating people, they think it’s such a good prediction and don’t realise how overplayed it is. I think the menu made a point of not touching cannibalism because they knew it would be easy to predict.

It would have made sense that Daniel Radcliffe playing himself as the actor since the assistant went to “Brown” where Emma Watson graduated an in script joke. The donkey reference was definitely Gordon Ramsey. The locale was Georgia as another KZbinr who was a former food server recognized the place. Stabbing the chef was wish fulfillment for all the female chefs/staff who were harassed or assaulted by more powerful men in the industry. The actor based his performance on Steven Seagal in real life.

Dish analysis from another video: Oysters and lemon mignonette - Common flavors put together that have to be broken down and deconstructed, foreshadowing what happens to the guests. This is meant to be taken as Chef throwing down the gauntlet. Amuse Bouche - More foreshadowing. Charred lace - crater. Milk snow - ash from the fire. Cucumber and melon - the guests. The Island - Scallop on a rock - Chef presenting himself to the guests. Plants - "in the weeds" Breadless bread plate - straight up snarking at picky customers. But you can also make a case for Lilian's plate having a broken emulsion on purpose as his way of saying SHE'S as useless as a broken emulsion. Memory - Self explanatory The Mess - Pressurized vegetables - literal pun. Bone marrow - blood. Beef jus - sweat. Potato confit - tears. As a whole, it's essentially a dead body with blood pouring out. It even has a hole for the bullet. Man's Folly - Plum vinegar exists because of Umeboshi, whey plays a vital part in making yogurt, sea kelp and lettuce are what keeps the oceans biome from wreaking havoc. But everyone either doesn't know that or forgets, because they don't taste good, aren't as attractive, or can be very difficult to work with in their natural form. It's the same with women, especially when they try to speak out against unfair treatment like what the chef describes. They get called things like "bottom feeders", like crabs. Final scene with Margot/Erin eating the cheeseburger - She didn't care about giving him peace of mind. She just wanted to survive. And Chef acknowledged that. Using his menu as a napkin - She never believed anything he said for one second. She is, in fact, a taker that knows her worth. And THAT'S why she lived.

I loved Elsa, she was intense but I loved her and her outfit. As someone who worked as a pastry chef but hasn’t for a long while, I didn’t expect it to hit the way it did but it did. The emulsion bit had me irritated because it’s literally barely visible until they bring out that liter of freakin’ sauce. Anyway, great movie, I’m happy she got out by doing her service and giving him his final opportunity to actually serve a patron.

I thought wine at fancy pants restaurants was supposed to be vintage. Did the guy at around @7:17 mean 2014 B.C.?
