I just watched this film and had an absolute blast. The cinematographer was also Peter Deming, who was the director of photography for the first four Scream films, which I found fascinating.

My interpretation of the chef’s cabin could be seen as a commentary on the idea of work/life balance and how that wasn’t available to Chef anymore and hasn’t been for what seemed like a long time with the newspaper clippings.

I love the fact that the only jumpscares in the movie were the chef’s claps. Felt like the sound design were amped up to eleven everytime he did it

Yes it was ? Many movies cross over into multiple genres. This is one of them. I mean what about a man sh***ing himself in the head or a man getting his fingers cut off doesn’t read as horror to you

@@qkat9856 this is a horror adjacent movie, but still considered horror. Regardless if you got scared or not. It is directed as a horror movie, it contains a lot of horror elements, horror is not just conjuring and insidious movies you know😂 the horror genre is broad with multiple subgenres

I finally got the chance to see this movie last night. It took some time to process all of the layers of this. to be honest, because so much sits just under the surface. I think it is a great commentary on so much once you even peel back the service worker part. I work in customer service and I completely understand the notion of how mechanical things can be, how businessy things can be, and how that can cause you to lose the passion you started your journey for. I think all of us can identify with that. There was something so very satisfying in seeing stereotypes of the very worst people get their comeuppance in this movie without apology. We've all met these people in some way, shape, or form, and we've probably all been treated like crap by them. They are the joy stealers. The soul suckers. Anya Taylor Joy and Ralph Fiennes (Which apparently I've been saying his name wrong MY WHOLE LIFE) were so much fun to watch on screen and I loved the small subtlety of their acting with simple expressions. The entire cheeseburger exchange was amazing. I know this one is going to take a second watch for me because so much is going to clearer going in knowing what I know. I find it interesting that by the end of it, unless I'm reading it wrong, even the guests of the restaurant had succumbed to the mentality of the rest of the staff. Either by default or just acceptance of their fate. I also find it interesting, and this could be accidental, that the restaurant is named Hawthorne. Taken in moderation, Hawthorne isn't bad for you. However there is an element of the Hawthorne berry that can cause toxicity as it raises cyanide levels if you consume too much. This movie blatantly called out the couple who had attended 11 times without even pausing to consider the experience and that was the only couple to be harmed by the restaurant people themselves until the climax of the movie. (I don't count the guy who unalived himself because that was a choice he made). I may have thought too much about that haha. ANYWAY I loved it and I can't wait to go back and pick it a part more. Also, that cheeseburger looked amazing. If they were going to do another one, I'd like to see retail workers or perhaps educators or nursing. I think that could lend itself to some horrific scenes.

Wonderful movie. Margo/Erin slapping tf out of Tyler (who I recognized as Tony from Skins❤) was so satisfying. I feel like it would’ve been out of character for her to have just sat there and cried. I'm looking forward to what they do next. Between this and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, I'm appreciating satires in a way I never had before

I’ve heard Anya Taylor-Joy’s name pronounced both ways, but I know that Robert Eggers pronounced it the Americanized way with her sitting right next to him. One point would be that some people pronounce Han Solo two different ways and both are correct.

Hey Kylie, you've definitely sold me on this movie. I must watch it when I can. Fun fact: I used to work at Friendly's for four years in the early 2000's (and McDonald's for one month during that time). Never work at two restaurants at the same time. You will die. So I know for a fact how perfect for horror restaurants are. They are the grossest places to work because they're so hectic. And people do not care about their servers. Seeing a new server (or an experienced one) crying in the walk in freezer because customers were so mean was shockingly common. So to answer your question most people do not care about the lives of the people serving them unfortunately. I was a dishwasher who placed the dishes around the restaurant so I saw everything! Always tip your server because some nights they literally only make change. Restaurants are the perfect place for gross out horror. I'll spare you the details why haha

I enjoyed this movie and it’s going on my list of top horror movies. Anya Taylor-joy is an incredible actress and she killed her performance. She was one of my favorites. Ralph and Nicholas did amazing too. I found the story to be very unique and it kept me interested. The only scene that threw me off was when the chef gave all the men a 45 second head start to run before his cooks go hunting for them. I was thinking that something epic was going to happen but they just got caught and returned back to the restaurant. Other than that I enjoyed this movie.

I'm hoping to check out The Menu at some point, mainly because Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, and John Leiguizamo are in it. Plus, the concept for it sounds unique. Also, I think it's cool that John and Aimee kind of went method when they came up with backstories for their characters, sort of reminds me of Betsy Palmer making up a backstory for Pamela Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th.

*SPOILERS* I still can't fully understand why the remaining guests just accepted their fates at the end. Many of the male guests took full advantage of trying to run away earlier. So they were fearful for their lives. I guess I interpreted it as the guests coming to terms with the fact that many of them are pretty awful people and that they probably deserved what happens to them. I don't know. 🤷

SPOILERS!!!!!! SPOILERS!!!!! SPOILERS!!!!!! 5 4 3 2 1 ……… I liked the movie over all, I’m a sucker for anything with Anya in it and dark comedies in general, I didn’t buy the ending. I mean I get they’ve been threw a lot, but nobody is just gonna sit there and let themselves be set on fire, NO-BODY. That is one of the most painful and slowest deaths imaginable, even if it was in vain, people would at least try something to escape or run for it. Your instincts and or animal part of your brain would take over and you’d lash out to try and survive, especially when your body is actually burning, you would just instinctually try to survive… I mean it didn’t ruin the flick too much, but it was like a “B*llsh*t” moment for me. I did really want a hamburger after the movie thought, like McDonalds should endorse this movie lol
