The Meseta: Camino Highlights & Tips

We tell you OUR BEST CAMINO TIPS then show our VIDEO HIGHLIGHT REEL of our walk across the MESETA. We share some important basics to consider before planning your Camino. We had some misconceptions about the Meseta, and we aim to help others see how it was.
Pilgrims are walking on the Meseta approximately between Burgos to León. We covered that distance walking and with some taxi help when we were near León, September 25-October 1. The longer distances between lodging and food made us dig deep for the strength to keep going, and we slept a full 12 hours our first night in León affirming we needed the help and break we took. INSIDER TIP: Most pilgrims who have walked into and out of León agree that if they do another Camino they would avoid walking the outskirts around León if they could taxi or bus those sections.
If you are walking from St. Jean Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela, Sahagún is the halfway point of your walk. If you time your arrival in Sahagún right, you can get a “halfway certificate,” and once you get to León you are more than halfway to Santiago. WooHoo!

I’m glad you’re home and are posting videos. I was exhausted on the day we were supposed to go to Burgos so we took the bus. When there we checked into a hotel and I sleep until morning. For me the Meseta was a very peaceful walk.

I've been doing the Camino in short bursts, when I can get time away from family and work life, since 2019 and will be continuing from Burgos next time - hoping to cross the Meseta to León (if I can make it in the short number of days I will have). La Meseta no es solo de Burgos a León. Todo el interior de España,casi, es la Meseta, 600mts. Altitud sobre el nivel del Mar y encima las cordilleras y montañas. Y atravesando, los ríos. Meseta Norte, Meseta Central y Meseta Sur.

Yes, that is correct. The Meseta is huge, and when I refer to it in this video I am referring to the part of the Meseta we walk on the Camino Francés. Thanks.

Hello good afternoon, i have sone issues with smoke am asthmatic i cannot tolerate it , is there any instance in Meseta or any point from Saint Jean Pied de Port that is smokey or people burning the leaves or vegetation .? Thank you very much

I have not noticed that, but sometimes Spain has some wild fires in the heat of the summer. You would just need to watch the news.👍
