V.48. • The Qur'an through an unlettered • The preservation of the Qur'an in the hearts.v.49. • Why there is no miracle V.50. • Is it not the Qur'an sufficient as a miracle.V.51? • Famous verse used in khuthbah.v.45. Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do. • Argue with people in the best manner.V.46. • The worldly life and reality.V.64. And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew. • The easiness of life is through the path of Allah.v.69. And those who strive for us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. Ma sha Allah . Very convincing explanation and interpretation. In my humble opinion the keys in the olden days were of heavy metal and each one of them was weighing more than 300grams or heavier and to carry few of them for long time will be difficult . Even in our country Sri Lanka you find antique keys which weighs a kilo or so. JK

The story of Musa (peace be upon him) is almost the exact opposite of the story of Yusuf (peace be upon him). You will notice it specifically when you compare Surat Yusuf to Surat Qasas.

Important Notes of The Message of The Quran Part 19: Surah An-Naml, Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ, & Surah Al-`Ankabūt Section-3 Personal note: This is Section-3 of the Notes. Section-1, Section-2, Section-4, and Section-5 are commented in different comments as the notes are too long to be commented on in one comment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Moral Benefits of Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ - Lessons from Musa(AS)’s Story: I. We can never attain victory without struggle and sacrifice. This was the message even to the Muslims at the time of the Prophet(SAW) while they were migrating. (28:5) But it was Our Will to favour those who were oppressed in the land, making them models ˹of faith˺ as well as successors; II. When in deep distress, turn to Allah. Nothing will give you calmness other than turning to Allah. (28: 10) And the heart of Moses’ mother ached so much that she almost gave away his identity, had We not reassured her heart in order for her to have faith ˹in Allah’s promise˺. III. A sign of a perfect repentance is that you repent immediately after the sin is done. Delayed repentance is also accepted [Brothers of Yusuf(AS)] but repenting immediately is perfect. Musa(AS) accidentally killed a man, he(AS) repented on the spot. (28: 16) He pleaded, “My Lord! I have definitely wronged my soul, so forgive me.” So He forgave him, IV. A part of a perfect repentance is to renew your intentions to become a better person. You make a sincere commitment to Allah. Whether you live up to it or not, you continue to try to live up to it. Immediately after asking for forgiveness, Musa(AS) said that he(AS) would never support a criminal. (28: 17) Moses pledged, “My Lord! For all Your favours upon me, I will never side with the wicked.” V. When Allah is on your side, help will come from unexpected places. No one can help you like Allah does. An inner person(like a vizier) of the palace rushes to Musa(AS) from the far end of the city to warn him(AS) about the plot against him(AS). (28: 20) Then a man came running from the farther end of the city and said: "O Moses, the nobles are deliberating about you that they may put you to death. So do be gone. I am one of your well-wishers." VI. When you are generous to others, Allah is generous back to you. When we give whatever we have, Allah will give it back. Musa(AS) takes heed and flees to the deserts. He(AS) ends up in the land of Madyan and sees a strange sight. He(AS), while being a refugee, helps the two stranger women to give water to their sheep without expecting anything from them. Within a few hours after that, Musa(AS) got a house, food, job for 8/10 years, and a wife. Musa(AS)’s father-in-law was not Shu’aib(AS), he was a different man. (28: 27) "I want to marry one of these two daughters of mine to you VII. Nothing beautifies a lady more than modesty. Having feelings is natural but we must act upon them in a permissible manner. Allah praises the woman who walks modestly taking Musa(AS) to her father upon her father’s instruction. (28: 25) Soon thereafter one of the two women came to him, walking bashfully, VIII. Gender should never come between you and helping the religion of Allah. The entire story of Musa(AS) strongly echoes constructive efforts of the women around him(AS). It starts from the mother, then the sister, then Asiyah (the wife of Fir’aun), and the two women [one of which becomes his(AS) wife]. IX. We must learn and be in awe regarding the Power of Allah from the arrogance of the Pharoah and how Allah dealt with him. The story moves on, Musa(AS) going back to Fir’aun. Haman was one of the evil ministers of the Pharoah. The Pharoah mocked Allah and Musa(AS), he told Haman to build him a tower so that he can check if Musa(AS) is telling truth or not. Then, Allah coolly says that He took the most mightiest empire on Earth (at that time) and drowned them. Only Allah can say it this casually. It demonstrates the Power of Allah and the insignificance of those who oppose Him. (40) (28: 39) And so he and his soldiers behaved arrogantly in the land with no right. (28: 40) So We seized him and his soldiers, casting them into the sea. Contents of Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ - Blessings of Allah upon us: Like all Makkan Surahs, Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ mentions the blessings of the Creation and how we should see these things around us and get confirmation about Allah and His Power. There are some powerful Ayahs regarding the blessings of Day and Night and their alteration. We don’t think about the alteration enough. We just take it for granted, we don’t appreciate the world around us. (72) (28:71) (O Prophet), tell them: "Did you consider: if Allah were to make the night perpetual over you till the Day of Judgement, is there a god other than Allah who can bring forth light for you? Do you not hear?" (28:72) Say: "Did you consider: if Allah were to make the day become perpetual over you till the Day of Judgement, is there a god other than Allah who can bring in night for you that you may repose in it? Will you not see?" It is truly astounding to realise that Allah made all the perfect and intricate things we see around us, for us. This whole world was made for our ease by the mercy of Allah. In the Qur’an, Allah mentions this over and over again to drive the point home. (28:73) It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you night and day that you may repose (during the night) and seek His Bounty (during the day) that you might be grateful. This ends Section-3. Section-1, Section-2, Section-4, and Section-5 will be posted in different comments. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Important Notes of The Message of The Quran Part 19: Surah An-Naml, Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ, & Surah Al-`Ankabūt Section-1 Personal note: This is Section-1 of the Notes. Section-2, Section-3, Section-4, and Section-5 are commented in different comments as the notes are too long to be commented on in one comment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Introduction - Surah An-Naml: Surah Al-Naml is one of the Tawaseem Surahs. This is the only Surah in the Qur’an that begins with - طٰسٓ (27:1) Ta'. Sin. The name of the Surah is An-Naml (The Ant) due to the mention of the Ant in the story of Sulaiman(AS) in this Surah. Surah An-Naml was revealed in a similar timeframe with Surah Al-Shu`arā being revealed before it, with perhaps an Ayah or two being revealed in Madinah. It is 93 Ayahs long, around half a Juz (9 pages). The primary goal of this Surah is to prove the Qur’anic revelation to the Prophet(SAW). The secondary goal is to prove the Day of Judgement. There is a sub-motif of the Blessings of Knowledge. Contents of Surah An-Naml - Introduction to the Story of Queen Sheba: The Surah begins with the characteristics to those who believe in Allah and those who reject Allah. In Ayah 7-14, Allah talks about the Story of Musa(AS) very briefly. Then the story of Sulaiman(AS) is mentioned in Ayahs 16-44. This is the only place in the Qur’an where the story of Queen Sheba is mentioned. This is the primary story of the whole Surah. The story begins with the power and blessings Allah had given Sulaiman(AS). He taught him(AS) the language of the birds and gave him(AS) armies of Jinns and animals. When the armies were travelling, they came upon a valley of ants. Some ants told the other ants to take protection, otherwise, the forces of Sulaiman(AS) could trample upon them. Sulaiman(AS) could understand the language of the ants and so he(AS) heard this and laughed at the innocence of the ants. He(AS) made Dua to Allah. (27: 19) He said: "My Lord! Hold me under (Your) control that I may render thanks for the favour which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, This is how you truly become grateful to Allah. You ask Allah to grant you the capability to be thankful. Our thankfulness cannot come unless Allah makes us from the thankful. Contents of Surah An-Naml - Story of Queen Sheba: Queen Sheba is called Bilqis in all the books of Tafseer and Islamic Tradition but this name is not mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah. She is a famous Queen in the Arabian lands, the kingdom of Yemen was one of the most famous kingdoms in all of Arabia. She was known for her wisdom and for her acumen as a leader. Allah praises her even in the Qur’an quite explicitly. (27: 32) (After reading the letter) the Queen said: "Nobles, let me have your counsel in this matter for I make no firm decision without you." This shows that she is not a dictator. In the Qur’an, Allah praises those who consult other people before making any decision - Surah Ash-Shuraa, Ayah 38. Leaders should consult the experts before making a decision. She is well-versed in history and learns from the past. She states a fact. (27: 34) The Queen said: "When the kings enter a country they cause corruption in it and abase those of its people who are held in honour. This is what they are wont to do. The story mentioned in the Qur’an starts as Sulaiman(AS) sends Queen Sheba a letter. He(AS) humbles himself(AS) and starts it with the name of Allah. (27: 30) It is from Solomon, and it is: "In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate." She recognized the nobility of Sulaiman(AS) from the letter itself. She calls the letter - كِتٰبٌ كَرِيۡمٌ (27: 29) a noble letter Never does anyone humble themselves in front of Allah except that raises that person in the eyes of people. To get to know more this king (who wants her to submit without resisting), she sends him(AS) some very magnificient gift which means she is bribing him(AS). The Yemeni kingdom was very prosperous and they had everything. (27: 23) one who has been endowed with all things Sulaiman(AS) refuses to get bribed and he(AS) threatens to come to conquer the kingdom with an enormous army. (27: 36) Solomon said, “Do you offer me wealth? What Allah has granted me is far greater than what He has granted you. This shows that the blessings of Knowledge is far more greater than anything of this world. To give her another chance to recognise who she was dealing with and to show her that this is not just king, it is a Prophet, Sulaiman(AS) asks the council who can bring her throne before the Queen arrives. Ifreet, the worst of the Jinns, said that he could do it before the gathering is over. Then somebody who had knowledge (this indicates that it is human being) says that he can bring the throne here before Sulaiman(AS) even blink. We do not know what this knowledge is but we can understand that the person was righteous and Allah had blessed him with some miracles (كرامات). The throne is brought to Sulaiman(AS). He(AS) said to disguise is a little bit to see if she will recognise it or not. When the Queen arrived, Sulaiman(AS) asked her if that was her throne or not. She didn’t affirm it nor negate it completely. She is working it through in her head how this could happen. (27: 42) She said: "It seems as if it is the same. Then Allah tells us that she already knew Sulaiman(AS) is a Prophet deep down but what prevent her from accepting it outward is societal pressures. This shows us that sometimes people recognise the truth but what prevents them is the impediments of society. (27: 43) What prevented her (from accepting the True Faith) was her worshipping deities other than Allah, for she belonged to an unbelieving people. Then she was told to enter the magnificent palace which Sulaiman(AS) had. It was so beautiful that the floor paved with crystal glass looked like water and she lifted her skirt to not get it wet while crossing the pool. But she was then told that it was actually crystal glass. She realised who she was dealing with and that Sulaiman(AS) had Allah on his(AS) side and so she immediately accepted Islam. This shows her intelligence. (27: 44) She was told: "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a pool of water and she bared both her calves (to enter into it). Solomon said: "This is a slippery floor of crystal." Thereupon she cried out: "My Lord, I have been inflicting much wrong on myself. Now I submit myself with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of the whole Universe." This ends Section-1. Section-2, Section-3, Section-4, and Section-5 will be posted in different comments. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Important Notes of The Message of The Quran Part 19: Surah An-Naml, Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ, & Surah Al-`Ankabūt Section-5 Personal note: This is Section-5 of the Notes. Section-1, Section-2, Section-3, and Section-4 are commented in different comments as the notes are too long to be commented on in one comment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Contents of Surah Al-`Ankabūt - The House of a Spider: Allah equates those who take False gods as Protectors besides Allah to be like spider making its house. This is the Ayah after which the Surah is named. (29: 41) but the frailest of all houses is the spider's house; if they only knew. A spider’s house does not protect it at all. Every other species take houses for protection, but a spider takes a house for trapping pests and insects. So too, when people worship false gods, they are not protecting themselves and are causing more problems by inviting vermins and other dangerous insects. Contents of Surah Al-`Ankabūt - Truth of the Prophet(SAW) and the Qur’an & Preaching Islam to Non-Muslims: This Surah has some powerful Ayahs defending the Prophethood of the Prophet(SAW) and the truth of the Qur’an. (29: 48) (O Prophet), you did not recite any Book before, nor did you write it down with your hand; for then the votaries of falsehood would have had a cause for doubt. Throughout the Qur’an, the character of the Prophet(SAW) has been used as proof of his(SAW)’s Prophethood. For 40 years, he(SAW) was the most honest, most compassionate person in Arabia. But one thing he(SAW) was not was a literate person and an author. He(SAW) was not amongst the ones who could research on the old scriptures, he(SAW) did not have access to them and could never have copied from them. Overnight, the Qur’an began to come down to him(SAW). This clearly shows his(SAW) truthfulness and his(SAW)’s Prophethood. Allah calls those who want to memorise and understand the Qur’an as the People of Knowledge. So everyone of us should have a desire to memorise the Qur’an and should start slowly working on this goal, then we will see how easy Allah makes it for us. The desire of memorizing the Qur’an is an indication of love for the Qur’an and love for the Qur’an is love for Allah. (29: 49) But it is a set of Clear Signs in the hearts of those who have been endowed with knowledge. One of the most powerful Ayahs defending the Qur’an is given in this Surah. (51) (29: 50) They say: “Why were Signs from his Lord not sent down upon him?” (29: 51) Does it not suffice for them (as a Sign) that We revealed to you the Book that is recited to them? The Qur’an is the ultimate miracle, it is a Sign from Allah that Islam is the true religion. Anytime doubts about Islam come into your mind, immediately open up the Qur’an and recite it, the doubts will go away. The Qur’an is not and it cannot be the Speech of men. You don’t even need to know Arabic to understand that this is not a human effort, it is divine. When you read and listen to the Qur’an, your doubts will go away and your hearts will be at ease. This Surah also has one of the 2 Ayahs (the other Ayah is in Surah An-Nahl) which many Islamic speakers use to conclude the sermons. This is not something that the Prophet(SAW) did but there is nothing wrong with doing this. (29: 45) Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, ˹genuine˺ prayer should deter ˹one˺ from indecency and wickedness. The remembrance of Allah is ˹an˺ even greater ˹deterrent˺. And Allah ˹fully˺ knows what you ˹all˺ do. Once again, there is a linkage between Prayer and Decency. Praying regularly automatically changes your lifestyle and makes you more conscious of Allah. Allah then gives us general guideline to have the best manners and wise while preaching to the People of the Book. The guideline is general because wisdom is culturally sensitive. The protocols of interactions and good mannerisms change from one culture to the next. (29: 46) Argue not with the People of the Book except in the fairest manner, unless it be those of them that are utterly unjust. Contents of Surah Al-`Ankabūt - Conclusion: The Surah concludes by reminding us of the reality of this world. (29:64) The present life is nothing but sport and amusement. The true life is in the Abode of the Hereafter; if only they knew. The Surah finishes off by telling the Qur’anic Rule that we all should memorise. (29:69) As for those who strive in Our cause, We shall surely guide them to Our Ways. Indeed Allah is with those who do good. This ends Section-5. Section-1, Section-2, Section-3, and Section-4 will be posted in different comments. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Assalamu alaikum, I like the way you explain brother. One advice from your sister, when you are telling stories of various prophets and when prophets names comes like Musssa(A.S), Ibrahim (A. S) and so on you just take their names and you are not saying (Mussa A. S). I hope you understand.

Salam.i am listening to your lectures regularly.kazak Allah khairan for sharing with us from your knowledge.please, you said something I personally need more explanation ab.you said there is nothing wrong with celebrating mother s day.i am a revert muslim. i chose not to celebrate any birthday, mother day, father day, environment day, valentine s and the list continues. Once we accept celebrating mother s day, why not continuing celebrating all the other days?thought the only celebration we had were the 2 Eids.please, i need a reply from you regarding the topic.thank you, our dear brother in Islam🙂
@smna3214 жыл бұрын
Exactly, choose ur source of knowledge carefully. On the other hand, to be fair, he does not say that it SHOULD BE celebrated so much so that you equate it with the Islamic celebrations. Indeed, every new and unknown things from the non-muslims in terms of actions, knowledge, culture unless it is of common benefit to the humankind should not be taken. Anyway, we should stay away from it. And nothing can come close to teach what the status of a mother is better than Islam. And to put a tareekh (date) on it for some extra care and love is not from the methods of the righteous predecessors. :)

I'm currently reading the Abdullah Yusuf Ali translation.....do any of you know if the Maulana Wahiduddin Khan translation is any good?? I've glanced it over and it seems very simplified in modern English, I just don't know if its too simplified to where meanings are changed and I don't know anything about the translator.

Important Notes of The Message of The Quran Part 19: Surah An-Naml, Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ, & Surah Al-`Ankabūt Section-4 Personal note: This is Section-4 of the Notes. Section-1, Section-2, Section-3, and Section-5 are commented in different comments as the notes are too long to be commented on in one comment. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Contents of Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ - Concluding Passage: The Surah concludes by mentioning the story of Qaroon. He was one of the richest men in all of human history. We are told that his keys were so heavy that a group of strong men to carry them with difficulty. When he is told to be grateful to Allah, he refused and he himself took credit for all the Blessings Allah had given him. (28:78) He replied: "All this has been given to me on account of a certain knowledge that I have." The Qur’an describes how he walked around among his people, flaunting the things he had been given. And then the people who did not realise the truth, started wishing and desiring to be like Qaroon. (28:79) Then he came out before his people in all his glamour. Then Allah describes the people of knowledge and their response to the ignorants who wanted to be like Qaroon. It was knowledge that saved this community. (28:80) But those gifted with knowledge said, “Shame on you! Allah’s reward is far better for those who believe and do good. All this shows the foolishness of desiring to be extraordinarily wealthy and following people who have attained that in this world. Firstly, the rich people are never internally happy and have more issues than the rest of mankind. Secondly, this richness is of this world, it is not going to last for long. The reward Allah has is far better. Also, we learn the importance of gaining knowledge. Learn something and associate yourself with Qur’an daily so that you can benefit from it and start thinking in a higher level. If you are not going to become a scholar, don’t remain totally ignorant. Then comes the only Ayah we know of that was most likely revealed while the Prophet(SAW) was en route from Makkah to Madinah. (28:85) Most certainly, the One Who has ordained the Quran for you will ˹ultimately˺ bring you back home ˹to Mecca˺. Then Allah says that the Prophet(SAW) never expected that he(SAW) would be getting revelation. It is a Mercy from Allah. The Surah finishes by reminding us about the reality of life and what we must do to have a good ending. (28:88) And do not invoke any other god with Allah. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. Everything is bound to perish except He Himself. All authority belongs to Him. And to Him you will ˹all˺ be returned. Introduction - Surah Al-`Ankabūt: It is a late Makki Surah, around the same timeframe as Surah An-Naml and Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ. Surah Al-`Ankabūt includes consolation from Allah to the Muslim Community with regards to their suffering due to bad circumstances. It is around 69 Ayahs. The main theme is the battle between Iman (Faith) and Kufr (Disbelief). This is demonstrated by the stories of previous Prophets. It also deals with the trials of family, society, persecution, and more. It also talks about the humility of Muslims and how to engage in an intellectual battle and defend Islam in the best of manners. Contents of Surah Al-`Ankabūt - This Life is a Test: This is the first Surah to begin with the following Ayah in this latter half of the Qur’an. (29:1) Alif. Lam. Mim. Then Allah sets the stage for the entire Surah. We are all being tested, it can be a test of actual persecution from the enemies of Islam or it can be a personal test of time, wealth, or health. Either ways, we are all being tested in every aspect of our lives. (29:2) Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying: “We believe,” and that they will not be tested, (29:3) for We indeed tested those who went before them? Allah will most certainly ascertain those who spoke the truth and those who lied. Then Allah mentions the foolishness of people who consider torture of people in this world to the punishment of Allah. There is no comparison. Whatever happens in this world is never as serious as what happens in the next world. In fact, enduring the suffering of this world patiently can save you from the suffering of the next world. (29: 10) Among people there are some who say: “We believe in Allah.” But when such a person is made to endure suffering in Allah's cause, he reckons the persecution he suffers at the hands of people as though it is a chastisement from Allah. Then we are being told about Nuh(AS) as the paragon of patience. We get disheartened and frustrated if a person doesn’t listen to us when we advise them one or two times. He(AS) preached for 950 years (more than 20 average lifespans), the next generations would come and say that he(AS) was the one they were warned about by the previous generations. (29: 14) We did indeed send Noah to his people and he lived among them a thousand years save fifty. Then Allah says the fate of all the people who rejected Prophets. These are not just stories of the past. This can be applied to today’s world too with the global pandemic. We must comtemplate the current situations and our actions carefully. (29: 40) So We seized each for their sin. We let loose upon some a violent tornado with showers of stones; some were overtaken by a mighty Cry; some were caused to be swallowed up by the earth, and some We drowned. Allah would not wrong them, but it is they who wronged themselves. This ends Section-4. Section-1, Section-2, Section-3, and Section-5 will be posted in different comments. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair
