Tyla's look did fit the theme I believe. It was meant to resemble sand and she had an hourglass bag. There was something in the story about time running out.
@vcheekv8 ай бұрын
Yes, the unfortunate theme of the night was based on a short story Garden of Time by J.G. Ballard, about the elite keeping and using up all the natural resources and acquired wealth/ comfort for themselves as "time runs out" for them, and as the rest of suffering humanity slowly descends upon them. After this came to my attention, I'm pretty much done with these events and celeb elite. I don't know how many of them were privy to the subject matter of the short story which inspired this met gala, but they are all aware of what's going on in the world and there were protests going on right outside the event, so I'm just disgusted with them all. I'll always be an art/ fashion lover, but there are more important pressing matters and much of the elite clearly do not care and would rather cling to their wealth and comforts just like the characters of the short story. Disgusting?

@vcheekv I thought is was really clever of the Met. A lot of the attendees with their high couture fashion and garden/flower details became a reflection of the story probably unknowingly through their need to keep appearances and ignorance. They basically made them the art.

I feel like it could also be interpreted as "turning to stone" like the characters in the story. I like it either way.

There is also an exhibition on atm about delicate historical pieces that can never be worn again, not even on mannequins/hangers. Her dress had to be broken to be removed - so she also hit the theme with clothes you can only wear once. I thought conceptually it was one of the best

With Met Gala this year specifically the theme of the night was yes "In the Garden of Time" but the exhibit theme is actually Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion which is widely about archival fashion and fashion conservation. There were quite a few looks that though they didn't reference Garden of Time per se They did reference the main exhibit. Example Kendall Jenner in Archival Vintage McQueen for Givenchy 1999 for which the actual dress has only ever otherwise been shown on a mannequin yes there has been discourse that Winona Ryder wore it but Givenchy themselves confirmed Kendall wore the original gown and Winona Ryder had a replica.

The real talking point here is the fact that each ticket is $75,000 in a country where people are hungry and without homes and over 600,000 kids are in the foster system being mistreated. And also the mass genocide happening thanks to the funding and weapons provided by our country. I'm so over rich people and celebrities and fashion when each ticket cost would permanently change the lives of so many people. But no.
@Ilovebrushingmyhorse8 ай бұрын
It’s not the attendants fault and not even the ones in charge of it for the poverty in this world, and getting upset with them does not change anything. The problem is our economy and our labor system, and how unstable they are. while I’d rather not get into all that, and am still learning myself, but being born in wealth or working resulting in wealth does not make them guilty for the way this world is built. If they have enough money they won’t use and don’t use it for good ever, especially if they’re aware, that’s a problem. But spending money for fun, success and notoriety is not some kind of abomination.. it’s most likely priced the way it is due to the amount of publicity and exposure you’ll receive alongside being surrounded by well known celebrities, with many admirable ones too. So it’s not only going to benefit your public status which can be used to further your careers success, but it also is basically a meet and greet to the biggest celebrities, not to mention its pretty fun and creative fashion event, atleast that’s the point of it. I personally would attend it if I ever had the chance to. But also I believe that the money earned at the met is given to charities now, or atleast a portion of it. If that’s true, this event is perhaps a good thing.

This is how they fund archiving, caring for and showing historic garments and research culture and history through clothing. I cant remember the details, I suggest watching ModernGurlz video on this, but this part of the Smithsonian (?) is run by the money they get through mainly this event. If we want to preserve and appreciate historical and cultural artifacts it will cost money. I think having rich celebrities fund this work through events such as this is clever. Celebs get attention, we get entertainment, and the Met gets funding for another year. Which gives us all opportunities to go and look at and learn about historic clothing for another year. Would you prefer it if we cancel the event and fund the Met through tax dollars?

Tylas Balmain was literally made of sand and crystals! Garden of time. Plus her handbag was an hourglass. The designer cut the train off the dress right after she left the red carpet. It represented the sands of time slipping away. The dress was thrashed by the end of the night ripped from the armpit. It was art.

Tbh based on those pictures I don't feel like Kim's waist is necessarily THAT crazy tiny. Small, yes, but I think the overall proportions makes it seem smaller than it really is. She's got really big hips and the cardigan thingy kinda widens her upper half too so the waist looks tiny by contrast. Similar to how many drag queens will proportionize and get their waists to look more snatched by padding their hips, you know?
