The murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everard by a serving Metropolitan Police officer who abducted her as she walked to her home in south London in March 2021 was a watershed moment for the nation. It brought to the fore the devastating issue of male predators within the country's police forces and highlighted the extent of violence against women and girls in British society - an issue recently declared a national priority alongside terrorism and organised crime.
This documentary looks at the Met’s investigation into Sarah’s murder, how this devastating crime unfolded and its impact - told by those closely involved in the case from the outset, many of whom are speaking on camera for the first time, including the senior investigating officer, Katherine Goodwin, the prosecuting barrister, Tom Little, and Sarah’s local MP, Bell Ribeiro-Addy.

How do we stop this? Why do some men think it's ok to treat women worse then they'd treat an animal?

Rainydaylady. Because these cultures are patriarchal. From the beginning of each boy's life, he's taught, sometimes unconsciously, that he and all male humans are more valuable and more important than all female humans. This will eventually include their mothers, sisters, grandmothers; if they marry , their wives and daughters. Most men don't behave violently against any woman. They unconsciously still assume they're the sole head of their families. They still do harm. It's the few whose sense of entitlement isn't limited by love or respect for any woman or girl who will assume the right to rape and kill.

It's probably the same reason why parents send there kids off to military's school to kill people not in your country or your business but for the corporate war criminals and contractors. Perhaps it happened to them that do this. Or its simply your in the wrong realm to be here if you're thinking of doing this. Shame anyway.

@@helenhunter4540The man is the head of the house and the head of his wife. It's the biblical model actually - God over man, man over woman and woman over children.

In this context, people talk about patriarchy and misogyny alot. Actually, I would suggest it's something much simpler, an unpleasant but very basic side of human nature, also found in the animal kingdom; *bullying.* It's a stronger person taking advantage of a weaker person. A bully is always a coward, so Wayne Couzens being a 5'8 spineless little turd picked on a Sarah Everard not because he disliked women as such, but because he knew he'd win.

Just imagine how a boy who has been a victim of female violence would feel on seeing this 'impartial and completely unbiased report.' As an adult survivor of female violence I find it quite upsetting.

Such a sad, horrible state of affairs. I fear its no better here in the U.S. Women have been preyed upon for centuries. We can only change this when men themselves see the reality of this horror. How many more sacrifices need to be made???

"We can only change this when men themselves see the reality of this horror" The same men that are the majority victims of violence?! Only women could be so utterly condescending about things they clearly know nothing about. When most men turn up dead you don't hear so much as a peep from any woman in the media or the govmt about things needing to change, nor do the police take it even 1/10th as seriously as they do when it is a woman. Sarah Everard's killer was caught in record time - by his own colleagues in the police no less. That woman Nicola Bulley who disappeared last year had police wasting untold £thousands looking for her, only to find out that she simply fell into a river like a twonk. Contrasted to the average missing man who doesn't even get £100 worth of taxpayer money spent on investigating his case unless he's famous, or some stupid reason like that. Yet still you ask for more? Double standards doesn't even come CLOSE to describing this. If women had full equality to men vis a vis police time and money spent on cases things would look far worse for people like Sarah and Nicola. They would just disappear without a trace unless the crime was caught on camera or by living witness. You really don't understand just how much better women have it currently.

i actually got assaulted due to the incident with sarah, after it happened and vigil was going on, criminals (real ones not people smoking weed) seen oppertunity in police resorces being drawn away by what happened with the vigil+covid issue and went on a crime spree. So two men tried to brake into a womans house (she didnt phone the police guess why.. weed) the two men later encounterd me tried to steal my car with mid level violence (shoving trying to grab keys etc) then decided to violently assault because i resisted and then ran away realising they havent put me down and its now a fight and later that night they smashed someones car window to steal some fishing gear..... those 2 men are probably still greifing good people and probably will target more defenceless people after being overcome by 1 me, if we had laws more like the US regarding self defence they wouldnt be anyone elses problem..... should be noted prior to launching a violent assault on me the 2 men was accuseing me off being a police officer

Very sad to hear what happened to this woman, but he must be the World's dumbest police officer(unless he wanted to get caught) going. How did he not know his phone would be tracked and traced, how police would catch him through hiring a hire car, tracking CCTV through London. Shows the level of ignorance and arrogance in the police to think he could get away with something so terrible!

Ladies *please* take up boxing, kickboxing or jiu-jitsu. Kickboxing in particular does not depend on muscle size but on agility. You really don't have to take this crap.

There is a problem with violence in police period. We need police reform and accountability badly.

We need more police is what we need. They are overworked and under paid at that - that's not a recipe for good things with people that literally deal with violent criminals all the time. Tories defunding public services - just like with the NHS getting progressively worse.

By population mass it is at its lowest ever ….but with the amount of reports it seems to be worse …. Should it stop ? Yes , will it ,No …. You don’t need men to help you with your concerns about this …you need to be more vigilant and carry protection! We all know she shouldn’t have walked home alone , yet she did nothing about it … We all know those streets aren’t safe , yet she went ,it certainly isn’t her fault but could have been prevented!

True. IMHO there are numerous problems they are completely missing in favor of just ranting at the police. #1. The police are understaffed and therefore more and more overworked as the population continues to increase. #2. The police are underpaid - having to scrape by when you are constantly coming into contact with dangerous violent criminals doesn't breed good outcomes. #3. Women despite being constantly told that they are victims of men by feminism choose to stick it to the patriarchy by going out at night, drunk, half dressed and often alone. The bad elements of society are often out most and most active during the dark hours, so choosing to go get drunk and act irresponsibly isn't the brightest thing for anyone to do. When I lived in a city I sometimes went out in the middle of the night to get food from the local all night Tesco. I knew it was incredibly stupid and dangerous, and I won't go protesting that I should have expected I would be safe - because I know from step #1 that would be a lie.
