Author Richard K. Cohen joins Prisma Lopez-Marin to talk about The Metacognitive Student: How to Teach Academic, Social, and Emotional Intelligence in Every Content Area (Solution Tree, 2021), a book he coauthored with Deanne Kildare Opatosky, James E. Savage, Susan Olsen Stevens, and Edward P. Darrah. A 2021 Foreword INDIES Gold Winner and 2022 IPPY Award Gold Winner, the book explores structured SELf-questioning, a simple, straightforward, and practical strategy that works in all classrooms to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Richard K. Cohen is the assistant superintendent of the Metuchen School District in New Jersey and serves as co-adjunct faculty at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Before becoming assistant superintendent, Rick led as principal for Red Bank Primary School in Red Bank, New Jersey, and acted as founding director of a new bilingual school, Colegio Americano, in San Salvador, El Salvador. He has served as a leader of social-emotional learning (SEL) at the district, county, state, and national levels.
