same here, if built properly it can really carry your games and make some turn 3 or 4 wins look easy, although with most of it effects being only focused on your own board building and laying out high atk monsters it has a very hard time responding to the incredibly fast pace that most other decks have at it's power level, and struggles to adapt to anything that countspells it. i also found that if someone was running something that also relied on summoning cards that are above 3500 atk and def, you really had to pull teeth out to even stand much a chance. while i loved the deck and used it for large majority of my dual links experience, if you didnt get 2 or 3 cards that started your combos or if you got shutdown early, it was nearly impossible to win against a more main stream player. not to say it's weak, it just needs to to really fill out it's combos and to have it not be locked to your standby phase

I agree. Their card doesn't need to stay in the main deck. Or if you keep it, give them broken effects to compensate. One thing I thought would be a cool idea to modernize the deck is new retrains based on the evolved forms the original variants of many cards in the deck recieved. Daedalus -> Neo Daedalus Nephthys -> Cerulian Phoenix And maybe Tyrant Burst for Tyrant, even though they aren’t directly related. For a new boss I would love to see a new synchro with some caveat that allow both level 7 and 8 metaphys monster to make it, with executioners protection, and the ability to negate a card effect by banishing itself to special summon a metaphys card from your graveyard or banish zone, then special summoning itself back during the next standby phase. Final three things I would like, a monster that can special summon itself by banishing a card in your hand, a card to allow you to banish a metaphys card from your deck to add a banished metaphys card to your hand, and a metaphys version of psychic end punisher because I run that for no other reason then they can make it and it’s funny.

I'm not sure I like how you mix three different archetypes here (two of which are already losely related). The ascension to the Wyrm-state should come with some kind of decoupling from old relatives for the Dragons that undergo it, as they reach a new plane of existence.
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Жыл бұрын
@@xCorvus7x Well this card here is already a connector to all three, and I feel the “Metaphys” cards should all have _some_ gameplay connections to the cards they were before (either by their own effects or through the effects of another related card.) And having such a connection allows ALL the related archetypes to play nicer together and with the game in general. Not to mention having cross archetype support can allow normally struggling archetypes pull out new tricks in an ever evolving game. Help keep the meta on it’s toes and all that. LV and Metaphys monsters have more or less fallen out of favor anyway, so having this would help then get back on their feet without being TOO much.
@xCorvus7x Жыл бұрын
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire I don't think it would help, you need to consider deck space to play all this together. If you mix too many things, the result _might_ be rogue but it will be no more than a shadow of each of the things that went into it (and if this combination of different decks depends on too many different things, it is very brittle). Well, I feel the Metaphys cards should have no gameplay connection to the cards they used to be or that surrounded the cards they used to be. Gameplay connections, i. e. working together as a deck, is the in-game equivalent of relationships between individuals but ascending to the Wyrm-state transforms the Dragons who undergo it fundamentally: now they are different beings, they have no attachment to the cards they used to work with and might even be in a completely different world. This is different than resembling their former selves in appearance and effect.

@@xCorvus7x Well this card in itself would BE the armed dragon support:⚪️It has multiple ways of searching them out. ⚪️It has a built in method of protection for them, which can feed into it’s ability to special summon an armed dragon from your hand/GY.⚪️ It has a method of fattening them up in ATK/DEF, which is good since if they special summon an “Armed Dragon Thunder LV10”, the LV10 gains new effects depending on the ATK of the monster that summoned it. ⚪️And of course most of this card’s effects bounce off of the actions of the Armed Dragon and other stated archetypes in general, meaning you can start a chain reaction of events that can win you the game, and can even bring _itself_ out from your hand/GY with the accumulated cards.

@xCorvus7x Жыл бұрын
The thing about face-down banishment is that the cards banished face-down have no bearing on the game. The owner can look at them and technically choose which one to move elsewhere, if a card the effect of which moves all kinds of banished cards gives them that choice (such as Arise-Heart), but their effects cannot be activated and don't apply. Face-down banished cards are also private information, perhaps even if your opponent saw which card was banished face-down, so it's not like they can confirm the text of your face-down banished cards. If you just remove the brackets altogether (because unless otherwise specified cards are always banished face-up, I think), this would work. However, if you want to keep that option, you could instead turn the passive effect into a lingering one, that is activated by banishing the card from your GY either face-up or face-down. „You can banish this card from your GY either face-up or face-down; for the rest of the duel, apply the following effects: ⚪If a “Metaphys” monster you control attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage. ⚪If the summon or effect of a “Metaphys” you control resolves: You can add 1 “Metaphys” card of a matching name to your hand from your deck or GY. ⚪If a “Metaphys” card from your hand or field is banished: You can shuffle 1 banished card you own back into your deck.“ This way your opponent can disrupt this play with D.D. Crow before you regain priority on your turn, but once activated the effect is always active and it doesn't matter what happens to the card afterwards.

@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Cool ^^ Besides that, the card is solid and I'd like to see it printed. However, it's _very_ similar to Dracocension, and since the summoned Metaphys has little to do with the monster tributed, and the card gives you the option to tribute a Wyrm or Metaphys monster for another Metaphys monster, it's less an Ascension than a Metaphys Interruption, Interlude, or simply an Exchange or Shift. I guess it might also be a Metaphys Takeover, Arrival, or Descent but if you tributed a Metaphys monster, the Metaphys have already arrived/descended. I imagine that aside from searching out a Metaphys monster, you'd also use this card to dodge targeted negation; both these uses fall into the niche of Heavenly Dragon Circle. This doesn't really matter, though, it's just a question of flavour (a topic where we may have to agree to disagree).

Metaphys is actually an archetype that I didn't know existed lol Thanks for the knowledge, vtuber :)

My ex showed me this deck and I just loved it. The play style is cool and at the time it was a relatively unknown archetype, so it caught most people off-guard

One place where metaphys was quite good is Master Duel N/R format. It is a really fun deck. Not top tier but was a strong rogue deck for a time.

I think a Failed Cards episode that would be cool to look at is the Hidden Arsenal Archetypes. Because of lore and world building overruled what would be great archetypes in their card designs

To be fair, Dragunity is a solid rogue option that occasionally tops. So I wouldn't say that Dragunity is a fail. However, everything else I can agree with.

Love them to bits in DL, I just wish they got support or at least a skill. Free pend zones, a way to use Armed Dragon as scale, and a way to change the levels to 3 to summon Horus would be nice.

I think Dark World would make a good archtype for this series -Taught players what “cost” meant -Can’t go first -Can’t play handtraps -Best support (Danger!) is RNG based

it would be nice if they got more support for active plays like some more low level monsters that can search or special summon by banish themselves and/or other cards. at least 1 archetype negate and/or protection card(s).
@sirknightjcb9310 Жыл бұрын
As much as it pains me to admit, a fantastic addition to add onto the Failed Cards and Mechanics would be "War Rock". An already outdated Battle Phase focused archetype that barely lives, because one of its main enablers is a RotA for its Spell/Trap Cards that doubles as a floodgate. And all of them fail in comparison to another existing battle related archetype "Amazoness", which had a good batch of support that includes their own RotA, more boss monsters, and Pend Monsters to swarm the field much better than "War Rocks" can.

Just got into the video and, for the first time since I subbed to this channel, I have heard DuelLogs state incorrect information about a card as Metaphys Armed Dragon (which they show in the video as he states the wrong stats) has 2800 attack and 1000 defense.

Did not expect for Master Duel to come up. I thought for sure it was gonna be Duel Links since it was a solid deck for a moment. And it did get extremely fucked over by the original DDD skill that skipped all of your standby phases which made Metaphys cards banished completely dead

I think the thing that killed Metaphys the most is that all of its monsters are just retrains of older, successful cards without having anything to do with those older cards.

Played it a lot in Master Duel, good fun! Decoy Dragon especially was great, majority of Master Duel players don't read card effects and just ram into it blindly haha Not mentioned in video, but another problem with Decoy Dragon was it's Pendulum effect didn't count as summoning by a Metaphys monster effect, so monsters it summoned while in Pendulum zone didn't trigger their effects. Never played Executor for the reasons stated in video, but it's one of the very few cards ever to have the "Can not be banished" protection. Might be the only one that also has "Can not be destroyed by card effects" together with the banish protection.

its alot better than most give it credit for,and the fact that it can synergize with these other decks prooves this..... id also like to point out soul absorb is brilliant in this deck...especially when you combine it with inferno tempast and necroface. the problem in thier relivence lies in two factors... first is the unbalanced state of the current game alot of decks are seen as second thoughts and "failed" archtypes because of what they are up against...keep in mind some of the competitve examples you used as adversaries to Metaphys that were better were some of the best decks in the entire metagame that were pretty much dominating almost everything. the other issue is how these cards are expanded apon....some archtypes will get so much attention they get entire packs,sometimes multiple packs dedicated mostly to them and thier support,where as other series and archtypes are spread thin and released slowly....and often times,an archtype will stop seeing support at all. if konami actually gave more attention to the archtypes that have potential (mataphyst being one of them) and actually continued to make support instead of just focusing on the popular cards (which are only popular because of thier place in the metagame BECAUSE they were given so much support,or innately borderline broken) then more of these lower tier decks would be able to see more play.

Your can used in Kashtira deck as gimmicks deck. Kashtira deck also used banish mechanic to activate effect, however Metaphy only have 1 level 7 effect monster, while other engine such armed dragon have bunch lot of level 7 monster, even compare to dino engine is also bunch lot level 7 monster, so main while used other engine more reliable or just Kashtira monster itself without relying other engine. But at least R & D if your want to.
