You are an inspiration. I grew up Catholic and left that religion for many reasons. But you make it look like a good religion.

I felt that listening to father Keating, I was listening to a man so very close to God, and it shares with us how to do con t expletive prayer as means of having a personal and intimate relation with God, which will enrich our spiritual life but most importantly we finally will develop a two way conversation with our God.

Very helpful. Yes, the important thing is to pray. The other will sort itself out over time.

If you think this is like eastern meditation japa, TM or the like, then you have not got the right understanding of it. You have missed, that this is about a personal relationship with God, with Jesus where you will never be alone again, but always stay connected with Him and your own inner being. You will be so beautiful connected with life, with the creation, safe in His lab whatever happens in your life. And you will become your own true self. It is the contrary to being shot out into the void by a mantra.

OK, I can understand that from a Christian perspective, but I don’t think that’s a fair or accurate portrayal of Eastern meditative practices on the whole (“…shot out into the void by a mantra.”) TM and certain others, yes, that’s fairly accurate. No, Eastern practices don’t usually involve Christ in particular (though some actually do, among certain Hindus). But they aren’t all nearly as cold and impersonal asking it seems like you’re portraying them as. And there ARE some clear parallels of this to Eastern meditative practices. Some significant differences…of course.

For Croatian subtitles press "cc" to turn on English captions. Then press "settings" (the gear symbol), go to subtitles/cc, then auto-translate, then Croatian. Za hrvatske titlove pritisnite "cc" za uključivanje engleskih titlova. Zatim pritisnite "postavke" (simbol zupčanika), idite na subtitles/cc, zatim auto-translate, pa Croatian.

This is the end of this talk, "The Method of Centering Prayer." The next video in the Prologue to the "Spiritual Journey" series is "The Psychological Experience of Centering Prayer," which is also here on KZbin. It is the only talk in the series with 3 parts.

He is a liberal Modernist. So typical of priests of his generation who have occasioned such catastrophic damage to Holy Mother Church. Like most of those he is now dead - and can therefore do no further damage. And, now, the Church returns to TRADITION! Meaning TRUTH.

This is completely against Catholic teaching. Prayer is not meant to take you to an unconscious level. Prayer, mental prayer, is a conversation with God. St. Teresa of Avila & St John of the Cross would not agree with this at all. In mental prayer, you meditate on a sacred subject or something from the gospels and focus your gaze upon Christ. If other thoughts start interrupting, you come back to the original intent. God moves the mind to Him. He won't push away so you can be alone and empty. Period. This is New Age garbage.

Hey! I know you posted this comment over a year ago but why would this be against the Catholic teaching? It is simply a time to open yourself to God and his love to you, on the deepest level of your heart and soul. The catechism shares that there are 3 types of praying, vocal, meditation, and contemplative. I suggest looking it up in there as it does a wonderful job explaining this form of prayer and it's importance. Happy Easter

St Teresa and John of the Cross would most certainly have understood and valued this, as would the Desert Fathers. You need to read your Cassian, who was far from ‘New Age’.
@JimCvit7 ай бұрын
@@BrianCormackCarr absolutely not! Brother would say not to think. To quote directly from St Teresa. God may suspend the thoughts but not you/us. You may be pushing God out. This centering prayer is Buddhist. "Taking it upon oneself to stop and suspend thought is what I mean should not be done; nor should we cease to work with the intellect, because otherwise we would be left like cold simpletons and be doing neither one thing nor the other. When the Lord suspends the intellect and causes it to stop, He Himself gives it that which holds its attention and makes it marvel [note: He doesn't blank the mind, but takes control of its thought processes and infuses those He wishes the soul to contemplate]; and without reflection it understands more in the space of a Creed than we can understand with all our earthly diligence in many years. Trying to keep the soul's faculties busy and thinking you can make them be quiet is foolish." (The Book of Her Life - Chapter 12)

@@huntington33588 what’s being talked about out here is NOT mental prayer or meditation. It’s Buddhist. Catholic mediation and mental prayer uses your mind and intellect to think of God and lifts your heart to Him. Catholic prayers doesn’t push God out so you center on you.
@BrianCormackCarr7 ай бұрын
@@JimCvit Centering Prayer isn't about stopping thoughts or ceasing the intellect. Fr. Keating makes that VERY clear. I think he and St Teresa have a similar understanding of the relationship between 'thought' and a deeper consciousness...
