The best thing about SoD is that it's all about fun. It doesn't matter that Mages are pretty unkillable or half the population is now Paladin because of Crusader Strike. It's all fun.

1:05:03 To this day I still use BFA as my primary levelling zone for alts because imo it still has the best levelling experience of any expansion even up to and including Dragonflight.

I'm really hoping that the last titan ends up being Sargeras. Like Iridikron gets his wish, he lures all the titans to Azeroth, he defeats them, and then ALL we have left to try to defeat him is Sargeras and we find ourselves in the unenviable position of having to team up with him, and the entire time Illidan is off to the side, softly weeping.

In regard to the well of eternity turning trolls into elves, I wonder if that is the effects of order magic exposure making creatures smoother and more titanesque, or for all we know the well itself could be akin to the ruby life pools, with the titans using Y’Shaarj water to brainwash the trolls, the sundering freeing the elves from its influence

I think the best game content is story driven. Castle Nathria remains my absolute fave raid because of Sire Denathrius. Even up to the last fight and during it Denathrius talking to us during the fight makes it the best. Of the open world content I found Time Rifts to be the most fun because its a mix of content and has you revisit and reminds you of past stories.

Keep in mind that SoD is essentially a beta test for Classic+, so some of this stuff might be more permanent than you think. I'd honestly argue now is a better time to play Classic than even back in 2019 when it originally released. Each phase is also going to make the leveling for the previous phase faster for people that want to catch up or level alts.

@TaliesinEvitel - You guys are great! So great that I come and watch the weekly reset and your podcast on a regular basis, even though I do not play retail! I'm a classic player, currently diving headlong into Season of Discovery and enjoying the heck out of it. Since you are a retail player, your perspective on SoD is much different than mine, and I wanted to share my perspective with you: The temporary nature of SoD has nothing to do with why I enjoy it. Why I enjoy it is that it is the game I want to play. No Daily quests. No instance spaming with random strangers who I will never see again. None of the bizarre story and lore choices yet in the game. New content for the actual game that I love. The "Rune" bit is ... a thing. I like what they have done with it. But the BFD raid is the real joy. I yearn so much for a timeline where they didn't mess up my game so much. I'm really glad that people like retail wow, but I very much wish that retail's existence didn't mean that /my/ MMO wasn't allowed to exist. Oh, and "Classic" for Cataclysm and beyond is not going to be a successful thing, Tali - there's no reason to play those versions of the game when they are just inferior versions of live retail.

Because to me as a Swede an Americano is a weaker cup with a higher water ratio and not the same as a regular black cup of coffee. It's a distraction. Sarg is the final titan. The last to return to the pantheon. Also, I still find it odd that some people can't vibrate their tongue, but in saying that, I couldn't explain to someone how to do it.

Chronicles is written with a bias. The Titans WANT Azeroth to be a Titan. Azeroth isn't a Titan. The Titans are trying to force Azeroth to become a Titan with all the Titan machines placed on the planet. The Titans want order and control, they created mechanical/stone beings that follow orders. The 'curse' of flesh wasn't a Titan gift. The only reason flesh and blood creatures exist is because of the Old Gods. The extremes (dictatorship/Titans - Complete Anarchy/Old Gods) need to be balanced. Azeroth is balance. Azeroth will become the force that keeps both Titans and Old Gods in check, a being above those forces. Order and Chaos need to be there, but in moderation and balance. Azeroth is the power that will keep that balance.

I had issues with rolling my R's as well, I can trill my tounge now (learned in the last year)< but still have problems getting it started and putting it into a word. Do you perhaps have a thick tongue? I do, and I've always thought it was why I couldn't make trill sounds

The Class Rune "Quests/Objectives" are the only part I would love to see more of on Modern WoW, Class Specific Quests that offer cosmetic rewards are what WoW has needed for a long time and I hope SoD shows the devs that this type of content is absolutely fun and engaging with the world and the community when pulled off right.

I know that others did it to but I leveled the legion classes all to the point of the mount just to have that available during legion. Wish I did more with the mage tower and my druid but there were a lot of things locked behind that grind that I am glad I got

I would love to see all of the expansions prior to DF become STANDALONE, in the sense that you have a saved level and saved gear set and can go back at level whenever you feel. I call this "timewalking on demand." When the expansion is current content, you're leveling 0-20 and start out in heritage armor or starter gear. When you get to level 20, your iLevel will continue to go up with your endgame gear but your character level won't. You should be able to get to 20 by gaining XP equivalent to completing the storyline and side quests. If you've already finished a prior expansion (did all chapters of the storyline, got pathfinder, whatever constitutes completing it), you will be set to level 20 for that expansion and you can choose what gear to specify as your "set" for when you go to that expansion. You have the option when going there to either A) go in with your set and complete further activities at level with your expansion-specific set (timewalking) or B) go in scaled to level 50 for that expansion to farm with whatever your current expansion gear set is (reverse timewalking). If you didn't finish the expansion you start where you left off. No facerolling for you! This would allow for two things. 1) They wouldn't have to keep resetting the level caps and iLevels of gear. It would be relative to an expansion. 2) It would let people re-experience old content if they wanted to without having to wait for timewalking. Timewalking events would still be useful for timewarped badges.

I started raiding witha very casual heroic raid guild ( most fun ive ever had raiding ) but we are considering mythic. we are almost done with heroic too, and we have people we have trouble dragonriding ... heroic and normal is to easy for even them when most of them havent ran a key this season

I think you could do a season of discovery in retail easy. Tie it to factions and available to open world and non mythic dungeons. It be sorta like mythic affixes crossed with what shadowlands did with covenants in a abstract way. It would work great with the new Delves, they could mix up dungeons without harming mythic adding new stories. It could add a layer to the vault too

I agree with Evi's take on BFA. It was a very good expansion that was ruined by systems, bad testing of potentially amazing content (Islands and Warfronts are amazing concepts) and Sylvanas' character arc. It didn't help BFA to occur immediately after Legion. I feel that even expansions like Dragonflight and MoP would've been deemed far less successful had they been the expansion following Legion. One of BFA's strongest positives, however, also highlights one of WoW's biggest weaknesses which also happened during BFA. How Horde vs Alliance is handled, and due to the history of this treatment we are now in a situation of "lose lose" no matter what they do. BFA was the first expansion to give us a unique experience for Horde and Alliance since vanilla, and to be honest, that's not really a good comparison as Vanilla makes all the same mistakes, only earlier. In BfA, Horde and Alliance have unique questing experiences on their respective zones, and when you visit the opposing factions zone, you don't have the same quests with different quest text, you have fully unique quests (exception being WQs). This lasted throughout 8.0 and 8.1 and it wasn't until 8.2 before we start having the historic Horde vs Alliance issues creep in. As I already alluded, one of these is the 'same quests, different quest text' issue. Happens in every expansion, but it usually starts happening immediate. The other issue is 'neutral questing experience'. Cata and MoP are actually great examples of this because those were also expansions with strong Horde vs Alliance themes that were pretty much dropped DURING the questing experience. In Cata, most of the 1-60 revamp from HvA, but as soon as you started the 80-85 experience? It was all neutral or cloned questing until Twilight Highlands...and that was only for something like 20-30% of the questing there. Same with MoP. Jade Forest is only about 40% HvA because going straight to neutral and cloned questing, which is maintained for Krasarang, Four Winds, Townlong and that last zone that I never remember the name of. Kun'lai is when the HvA conflict that started in Jade Forest is picked up again, but guess what? Yep, cloned questing even that hardly lasts. Garrosh quickly becomes a unifying target that turns the rest of the expansion to a neutral experience. While I give do give BfA credit for its really decent attempt at unique HvA content, it stops midway through. Later than usual, but for everyone that even now complains about "Peacecraft", news flash, it always happens and happens for the majority of every expansions as well as Vanilla, its just that DF in being honest with us. While its barely relevant, yes, BfA should've ended before 8.3 and the Black Empire content should've been 9.0-9.2 content. Not in lieu of Shadowlands, just as a precursor. Just like how Legion should've ended with Tomb of Sargeras in 7.2 and the siege of Argus should've also been it's own entire expansion. Its taken me all of DF to accept this, but expansions only lasting to a X.2 patch is the right direction.

I think SoD like things will never really come to retail. it may be a bit of a doomer take but imo classic has always focussed much more on class fantasy than retail. It's one of the reasons i much prefer classic, it make me really feel like i AM a warrior/mage/priest and that being that class really means something. it means i will have to do a quest to learn how to resurect dead players, or work hard to be taught how to concoct poisons for my weapons etc... i fear retail players just arent interested in experiencing the deeper fantasy of their classes (which is fine btw). I remember when i first started WoW I was blown away by druid form quests, and always thought "Man they should do MORE of this!" when it felt like the retail community wanted those things eliminated altogether. i say let retail be retail and classic be classic!

I really do think these improvements and planned improvements have come about because of the exodus from WoW. Without that Blizz would have happily continued what they thought was good for the game. Companys only listen to the profit margin. So give a big thanks to those who couldnt stand the gameplay and/or the immorality at Blizz HQ.

The 3 expansions I had the most fun playing were Shadowlands, BfA and MoP. I don't enjoy DF that much, though. I'm finally having some fun with patch 10.2. I liked Zaralek Caverns, visually at least, but the quests and story there were... not really good IMO.

My theory is that Azeroth is the "Last Titan" because she's the last one that hasn't been infused with a particular universal force. What if the Titans have a natural state that is neutral and then absorbs the energy from their planet that determines how they lean (Order, Fel, etc). If Aman'thul was the first and was Order focused, then it makes sense that he tried to make the rest of them Order bound too. But Eonar seems more bound to Life, which is why they argue. We've seen Titans flooded with Fel and Death. But since Azeroth has been exposed to huge amounts of all kinds of energy with the universe fighting over her, what if she's born with a perfect balance of all universal powers, making her more powerful than any of them? EDIT: 5 minutes further into the video they literally spelled this out too XD

SoD is Blizz, taking their borrowed power systems that only last for a short time, into classic. You know, to the players that complained the most about those systems, and now they love those systems. Imagine that.

Coming at it from the mythic raiding community side of things, I think the reaction to DF has been generally positive but a fair bit more muted than what you describe here. In particular, there was a lot of nervous speculation among my guildies about whether three tiers and fated (and by extension a return to year-long content droughts like we saw in MoP and WoD) was going to be the new normal, and a lot of disappointment when it turned out it was.

I strongly beg to differ on the point that this is 'exciting because it's temporary'. Also, there was nothing exciting about classic leveling or the gear rewards; I've long felt the permanent mount/pet/toy rewards are the whole point, since gear is a useless waste after every couple months. The ONLY reason I played Season of Discovery is to reclaim Warlock Tanking, a thing they teased us with and many of us thought was testing to become permanent in Pandaria, to help fix the tanking shortage. When the glyph came out to make tanking lock form forever, I never went back, I was main tank for our challenge runs and off tank for our main raid group. I was devastated when they removed it from us and gave everything we had to the Demon Hunter tank nobody asked for. Sure players wanted DH, but most thought the other specs would be Warden, and around now should have included Night Warrior specs. Demon Hunter is such a poorly formed class idea, and in itself should have just been an 'Elven Specialist' spec. It's been years and they could only come up with 2 ideas for the class and they aren't even unique to each other.

I just want more classes to get more role options. I want tanking Warlocks and healing mages, Tanking Hunters so forth. I just want people to play whatever role on whatever class fantasy they like. I have no want for the transitional nature that is SoD, but do want them to open up roles.

It drives me crazy that Tali gets this wrong every time. Order magic and Arcane magic are shown as different on the cosmology chart, similar to Disorder and Fel. Order is the more pure form of magic. That said the chart does show the Titans specifically as being part of Arcane so 😅

I'm not sure how they should approach the problem, but it's super evident to me that wow raids need the ability to tune their difficulty more. I would love to be able to do wow raids that challenge me and my friends without needing a committed group of more than 20 people to do mythic.

I cant get it in my head why rogue got a tank specc and SURVIVAL hunter did not. Imagine using your pet as extended tanking mechanic and micromanaging it while it tanks caster mobs or offtanks for you. Wasted potential there.

well we have seen as players, if we just looked around (and didnt be childish, the story telling was NOT that bad, its not a sharknado ..) we should all've realized that it itself is a construct. like the eternal ones are constructs. or oribos is an artificial construct to change the natural path of the souls, which normally would just pour into the maw. the maw is the only kinda original part of the shadowlands, just that i might not have been so barren when souls=anima could just flow into and nourrish it -- at least this is what is hinted by dialogues and what impression u get by lookin at it. alternatively oribos could be just a giant hoover that attracts souls to one point in the first place, and normally they would gather nowhere and the whole dimension was just created to harvest energy from wasteproducts i.e. bodyless souls (to give the death realm an advantage over the other forces)

What I'd do in retail: Have seasonal timewalking campaigns. Essentially, new servers with old school leveling that puts you through all expansions with an progressive level cap. This would be excellent for new players who can finally experience the story in order. There's much to add to this idea, but this is a MUST for retail WoW as it stands.

Watch there be a "re-assessment" of Shadowlands 5 years from now, and people saying they actually liked it. When TBC originally came out it was generally considered a big disappointment by the end of it. These days, the same people who shat on it pretend it was their favourite expansion.

Humans look like Titans, not the other way around. And they look like titans because they evolved from Vrykul who were made by titan keepers/watchers who were made by titans in their own image. Aggramar made the colossals in Draenor which eventually evolved into Orcs, but they don't look like titans. Eredar were not made by titans, so there's no reason for them to look like Argus or the other way around. Argus didn't make them, the Titans didn't make them.

I think you are making mythic bigger deal than it actually is. You realistically can't raid mythic with exactly 20 people, there is always someone who doesn't show up, is sick, has other responsibilities, have to leave early, you need more people. It's just that people have to accept it and be prepared to skip a raid voluntarily. But I totally agree that the management jump from heroics to mythic is big, but you should just try it and take it as it is. If people will fight over who will be benched, you will know that you at least tried it.

And then there is Tali and Evitel-strange lovers of the current game but somehow ignore the absolute gold that is classic wow season of discovery. Guys, season of discovery is so fun. It is legit a better experience than 2004 when the game went live for the first time. ---other than that.

I don't want anything like SoD in retail. For me WoW is playing my main; the main I've had since vanilla. Doing temporary stuff with a temporary character in WoW feels like a huge waste of time to me.

1:26:48 Please stop reminding me to play Starcraft 2 campaign so much, that "what will happen with Azeroth Souls" talk is so much StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void storyline, if you would play/know the SC2 story, you can get pretty good educated guess where this is going, with all the information you have now. Blizzard in 2012-2016 +/- made all games very interwoven between each other, with mechanics and now looks with story too. Examples : WoW:Legion could be called WoW: Reaper of Souls, because HOW many good mechanics did it "copy" from Reaper of Souls, WQ ? first in RoS; M+ ? Greater Rifts; Legendary drops? just Diablo in general, but D3 was the first Diablo game where you are fully legendary equipped. in SC2: Heart of the Swarm, there is literally a mission where you have only Kerrigan , where you need to defeat bosses, and those bosses have 100% same mechanics as the Diablo3 bosses So I wouldnt be surprised, if even the stories will be similar, guess who was the main story guy in those years... and did come back after "retirement". TLDR: Go watch some SC2 story explanation, especially Legacy of the Void; or buy whole SC2 campaign, and play through it on easy mode for the story.

tbh I don't think you are going to really understand what is good about season of discovery unless you try it. Temporary isn't the reason these things are fun. They are fun because Blizzard isn't balancing any of this for any sort of competitive. They are just letting it ride (within reason, RIP scorpids) P.S. wouldn't play a season of discovery in a classic expansion
