A really interesting video Tim. I have found out that where the PanAm jet came down is somewhere on land that has old family connections. According to records my grandfather was born At Hallmeadow, Tundergarth. I have never been to the area, nor not likely ever to visit the region. With that here"s " Wishing you all the Best for Christmas 2023 and into the New Year 2024"

Thank you Ian. I featured the Tundergarth church and memorial room in my Christmas video last year which you'll find at kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHTRnHifhsmGn7c Hallmeadow is about a mile-and-a-half along the road from the church. A quarter of a century ago I did one morning a week teaching music in the local rural primary school directly across the road from Hallmeadow - small world, isn't it? Every good wish from across the water.

Despite all the doom and gloom of Lockerbie's history about the plane crash, there's no denying that it has a beautiful station building. Great video

Can't disagree with you there Joe - friendly staff too on my one previous visit filming on the platforms.

A similar building was at Beattock, the original terminus of the West Coast Main Line.

Good Tim, not a bad location at Lockerbie for the drone. Cant believe its 35yrs ago since the disaster.👍
@schoolshorts10 ай бұрын
Yes, I think it's a location I'll be using again. I must be growing old indeed when 35 years slips by as quickly as that.

I used to deliver down the east coast, as far as Whitby; which is where is travelling back on that fatal night. The weather was dreadful with heavy rain and bad visibility due to the weather and the time of night. So, rather than cross country as I would normally do (my work was based in Edinburgh it I lived outside of Glasgow) I decided to go up the country route through the borders. I’m grateful I did as I would been caught in this terrible disaster if I hadn’t changed my route that night. Regarding the lack of Scotrail trains serving the Scotrail stations, if the group trying to reopen Beattock station manage to be successful in their efforts, then either it would be served by Scotrail or it’ll be another Scotrail owned station served by TransPennine… 🏴🎅

Interesting - it was quite a fine night here in the south-west - I saw it happen and got caught up in the aftermath, but that's another story. Re-opening Moffat - hmmm! - we can but hope but I'll not be holding my breath!

Lockerbie is a strange station indeed Run by Scotrail who have no trains stopping there. Is that because Scotrail is run by the Scots government. A long day out filming but was worth the wait with the view in the kitchen where they prepare the food in the old way, I like that the staff wear replica uniforms on this train.

ScotRail was only taken over by the government this year, 2023 - I don't know how it came to be under that company's management. Things do change of course over time. When Virgin ran the West Coast Main Line quite a number of trains called at Lockerbie - under Avanti, virtually none. An interesting location to film - I'll certainly have to use it again. Best wishes, as ever.

@@schoolshorts I didn't realise the take over was so recent. So not for that reason. It is a good looking location for you drone with lots of open space and the long straight track. Best wishes Tim

Strangely I was expecting the Pullman to pull in and stop in the down loop again, that being the reason you had went over to Lockerbie. A bit disappointed to see it glide past without stopping.😀
@schoolshorts10 ай бұрын
It was scheduled to stop in the loop at Quintinshill again but was running so late that that wasn't necessary. Lockerbie was never scheduled for a stop. My reasons for using the up loop there were a) accessibility b) change of location c) continuance of the "disaster" theme.

Terribly sad that Lockerbie is one of those places that is only known (UK-wide) for its tragedy, like Omagh or Aberfan. 13:00 i thought Royal Mail had given up on rail transport!

Lockerbie - a curious place, about 30 minutes away from me by car. Most trains pass through it at high speed and - to be honest - there's not much to stop for! Although it's nowhere near the sea, it's where I took my day skipper's ticket for inshore sailing, a good few years ago. Royal Mail did give up on the railways but have returned to them. Several RM trains a day at Carlisle during busy periods.

After Quintinshill, I'm guessing this is Lockerbie?

Britain's worst rail and aviation disasters both took place in Dumfriesshire. The greatest peacetime maritime disaster (Titanic) occurred under First Officer William Murdoch of Dalbeattie, now Dumfries and Galloway. Sad claims to fame.
