Hey, just so you know the 2013 midtown bass did not come with a Babicz bridge. There’s a really great book, called the Gibson bass book illustrated tribute by Rob Van den broek it’s a great reference. I love the Gibson Bass videos, it’s a big reason why I subscribe to the channel. You guys are awesome thank you!

I like Gibson basses. They have their issues but most of the time, they sound really good, warm and fat. I currently own a EB2014 which is surprisingly good! Hopefully you guys will be able to feature it! The midtown is on my radar!

The eb13 is one of the most versatile basses gibson ever made, and it was their cheapest bass offering at the time...and it even has a headstock volute to avoid breakage!

I have one and wish it just had two volumes and a tone like my SG Bass. The switch really does make the instrument less versatile for my use/

Great looking bass. I never knew these existed. I thought the closest thing in the Gib Family would be the Epi Jack Casady Bass. I assume the strap balance ain’t great, being semi hollow and long scale.

I like hollow/semi-hollow basses. My favorite at the moment is my Ibanez AGB200 Artcore Semi-Hollow 4-string bass. The low E on this Gibson Midtown sounds very weak and undefined.

OK, I'll be "that guy" - the Gibson Midtown bass is not "semi hollow" in the traditional sense of the word (as in a back, formed sides, optional centre block, top) it started life as a solid body which has been chambered, then a flat top glued onto it. Picky point maybe, but I think of this as a different class of instrument. For reference I owned a black Midtown bass - I replaced the neck pickup with a DiMarzio Model One and made it series/parallel switchable with a push/push. Kept the original three point bridge - unlike many folk I have no issue with it :)

As I grew older, the hifi sounding basses are less appealing for me, but these Gibsons are hitting something in me.

The good news is this sound is 80% the flatwound strings (being semi hollow is the other 20%) so throw some flats on whatever bass you own and you're more than half way there.

Easy, you design a bass in 1958 (the EB-2) and keep it unchanged until the current year. Instead, you ride on vintage coat-tails and never improve or innovate. And unlike Leo Fender, Gibson did not get this bass right the first time.
