I was in Hong Kong Last week. While there, I gave a talk to a small intelligent group on the mind, how it reincarnates. Also on the qualities of the Buddha form and the reasons we make Buddha statues. This talk has been recorded and edited by Seng Piow. And I thank him for this.
I do hope you will gain some knowledge from this talk.
Much Care,
Tsem Rinpoche

Tsem Rinpoche offers one youtube video after another overflowing with powerful information. I've never seen the likes of this before, perhaps partly because his English is so good and he speaks quickly and succinctly. I rejoice in how blessed we all are to have this information and knowledge easily available to us from this immensely generous Rinpoche(precious one). I just keep saying Wow!

@@13c11a I'm sorry to hear this. Rinpoche has a website you can look up. If I put the name in comment it will get deleted. There are many resources there and perhaps even videos with captions. Sorry I can't help you because I don't have anything to do with this KZbin channel. I'm not even a buddhist. I am hindu tantrika from India but I really enjoy Rinpoche's Dharma talks. On the website they have a section called "Ask a Pastor" and perhaps you can put suggestion to them about captions as well. Pranams. 🙏🏼

@@suryadas6987 Thank you for your kind reply. I will continue to explore all his teachings online and listen again and again to his lectures. I practice Pure Land Buddhism. You have probably heard Rinpoche talk about it Amituofo's Pure Land just as Shakyamuni Buddha himself did. There is a Pure Land Buddhism channel here on KZbin, as you probably know. We are so blessed to have these great ones who keep returning. There would be no hope otherwise. Amituofo.

"A hundred scholars and a thousand yogis can say all they want to say about the nature of mind. But all can be summed up by this teaching of Jigme Lingpa. The mind should never be separate from loving kindness and compassion. Loving kindness and compassion should never be separated from emptiness. And mindful awareness should never be separate from emptiness. These are the key teachings." -HE Garchen Rinpoche

To verify about the death of the body: In WWII I knew my time had come and my body had to fall on the northern rim of France. 3 soldiers came upon me and my spirit/ mind went high up as I looked down at them bayoneting me. I was detached and turned towards my next incarnation. Later I saw the elemental s wanted me to fall in that place because of an ancient connection there and they needed to gather the substance of my discarded body to bring it to my next incarnation so I would not forget.

The blessing for Tibet, Burma, Thailand, and places like that is, as I see it of course, that the Dharma flourishes in these places. I wish that these places would also be blessed with material wealth, prosperity, health, long life, and safety, too, but we can use the Dharma to further those causes. I live in the united States, and I'm blessed with basically any material object that I need. Food, clean water, medicine, education, social security, all of these things, and it's wonderful! It really is. But one thing is desperately missing, and it's the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. With the exception of a few pioneers like Robert Thurman and Thubten Chodron, the Dharma is very, very difficult to encounter here. Even if you do manage to find the Dharma here, there are millions of people that will discourage you in pretty much every way. The Christians dominate our society socially and politically, even though separation of church and state has been established. The United States needs to receive the same blessing that places like Tibet, Burma, Thailand, and Vietnam have received, and that is the immense blessing of the true Dharma being taught by accomplished Lamas and teachers. I hope that someday, now that the iron bird flies, that the Dharma will migrate here and flourish for the benefit of all sentient beings. The guy that was talking at the end, I think his name was Ren-Ren, correct me if I'm wrong. He's a very intelligent individual, and I could relate to what he was saying very much. Respectfully, I think that Tsem Rinpoche didn't quite understand what Ren-Ren was asking. I'm not a teacher, so I may be wrong, but I think the answer to his question is that people get glimpses of the Dharma from other religions, which is why certain religions are attractive to people, but the teachings of the Buddha contained within Buddhism is the Dharma in it's entirety. Religions that teach people to commit Jihad or holy wars against other people, hit children and adults with sticks, and encourage people to violently attack other people based on religious or political differences are not Dharma, not what the Buddha taught at all. There may be a kernel of truth in each religion, such as forbidding people to lie, steal, and kill, but the "enlightened" beings or figureheads of each religion have largely or slightly misinterpreted the spiritual experiences that they had. They glimpsed the true nature of reality, but did not understand it correctly. You can find bits and pieces of the Buddha Dharma in other religions as well, but the Buddha was the only being to attain full enlightenment, full realization, and complete understanding while still alive on this Earth. I hope that can help answer his question there. I was deeply saddened yesterday when I learned about Tsem Rinpoche's passing. I've only discovered his teachings recently, like a month or two ago, but I didn't know that he had passed until yesterday, 30 May, 2022. His videos always teach me something, but equally as important as that, they stimulate new questions in my mind. I have so many things I'd like to ask him about, but sadly that will never happen. My karma must not have allowed myself to come into contact with Tsem Rinpoche in this lifetime until now. It's a great fortune that we are able to audio and video record great masters like Tsem Rinpoche and broadcast it to the world like your Dharma center does. Sorry for such a long comment. I had a lot to say, and I don't really know how to keep a lot of that short and sweet. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche will be greatly missed, that's for sure. His effort and dedication to the Dharma, and very importantly, his dedication to making this world a better place has left a powerful impression and has certainly generated much merit for all sentient beings. I hope that he achieved full liberation and that it's even better than he could have imagined. I do have a question, though. If he was the 25th, is there going to be a 26th? And if so, is that going to be him reincarnated? Does it work the same way as with the Dalai Lama?

Budda was born April 8, 563 bc. Yes he existed as a man who sought enlightenment. He was deified by man....he never claimed to be a God. He was simply more intelligent, gentle, and compassionate than that of a so called God. Budda is not some mythical being that can't be found or traced... Thanks so much for the teaching. Since a teenager I have always liked the Buddhist. I've often kept it quiet because much of my audience is Christian saying I will not be saved but condemned. Some of them believe the universe is only 6 or 10 thousand years old only even though all research says otherwise. Some even believe dinosaurs were aboard Noah's ark and existed with Adam and Eve instead of millions of years ago. We know this cant be true even saying your going to hell if you dont believe this. Not all Christian's are like this. People almost as smart as us go back 100 thousand years ago that could probably talk. Some have said the idea of evolution is of Satan. I've listened to Buddhist temple music at work. They liked it. Mostly Kenyan and Christian. This was on my cell phone where they show temples and beautiful sunsets. As soon as they saw the pictures one claimed good luck with that and I dont have salvation and will be abandoned in hell forever. Again not all Christian's are this way but this is common. So much fear and division. There are some good things in Christianity but so many dark spots as well. Love and take care to all from Lee.

Let's put it this way. These kids were too ignorant about what they were learning. They might not be ready to be exposed to the rather intricate teaching of Buddhism. Alternatively some people are simply blocked by their own karma to be able to be open mind enough to understand Buddhism. I can only hope that eventually they could benefit from this excellent Buddhist teacher.

All sentient creatures have mind. It’s how they can understand their environment. It’s how they navigate space and time. As for whether mind or soul are different? How can there be any sense of separation when the mind is what creates categories and dualities. It is all one mass of life, growing, becoming… any sense of self is ultimately illusory. You have no ego, nor does anyone else. In essence, we all have the same nature, which is selfless and empty of inherent existence.

Hi Sunny. One of the purposes for Rinpoche to share His knowledge is because, He wishes us to use more of logic and reasoning to understand things or phenomena that happened in us or around us. Rinpoche has mentioned we can also achieve that level of awareness if we practice more, learn more and have an open mind. One of the ways for us to learn more is through here www.tsemrinpoche.com . I hope you too can achieve the same level of intelligence that Rinpoche's possessed so that you can benefit people around you. The very purpose for learning is to help others and share with people around us so that we can lessen the sufferings/problems that they might have. Do share your thought so that others can learn through your point of view.

Hi, the term "exclusory reductive materialism" is relatively new to me and thanks to you I'm able to know another mind-brain identity theory. "Shantideva said that our mindstreams are not restricted to our corporeal forms. The mind is actually free and independent of our bodies or lack of it in the case of formless realms. Since our minds do not get old or young, it remains ‘constant’. Since it is constant without age or without ageing, it can learn, adapt and adjust if we choose." This is a passage i copied from Tsem Rinpoche's blog and the link is here www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/inspiration-worthy-words/why-are-excuses-impermanent.html. There are quite a number of articles in Rinpoche's blog discussing real happiness and our state of mind. Do explore more on Rinpoche's blog and I wish you happiness and may all be auspicious.

Before my better understanding of buddhism, i had thoughts plainly as it is just the principles of having humane society. i truely confess that i even blamed it for some reasons, but after understanding more about buddhism and experiencing results and power of it, my attitude towards Buddhism has dramatically changed. As said by Rinpochhe, one can never understand about something unless know and experience about it. this is purely my personal thoughts, not to intend to anyone.

1) I totally understand where you come from, Tsem Rinpoche, re: the taunts from your childhood. I was traumatised in my teenagehood when my Christian classmates told me that Catholics, the religion I was born into, worship the devil. They even circulated literature about this. When the Prophet Mohammed cartoons from Denmark were in the headlines some years ago, I totally wondered why those literature against the Catholic religion were allowed to exist. I guess it's karma, it's feng shui..

Many thanks. We need clear teaching about the mind and where it exists. I think he is just saying it is not the garments or language, or external practices. The "budi-mind' changes little, where the bodies that incarnate can be quite different. What is the original mind we are trying to recall?

Excellent talk. The political part and Eastern/Western dichotomy part was not really necessary but it was a good training of equanimity. Mandela started off by putting burning tires on the dissidents from his then-communist party, but then we are looking for Dharma in the Tulku's talks, not historical accuracy.

Dear Sir , Perhaps 2500 years ago there was a great man said to be named as Mr Siddharta perhaps had a realization on the nature of human suffering and he tried to explain and share it to mankind . ... and SAID TO BE there was a quotation in formal Buddhism Text itself that before Mr Siddharta passed away , he was quoted saying that " Let My Teaching Be Your Teacher "...together with another quotation SAID TO BE quote " Believe Nothing No Matter What You Hear Or Read , Even If I Have Said It , Unless It Agrees With Your Own Reason and Common Sense " ...... With these message , is common sense his realization is just like an gossip , a rumors and just a mere information not even to be accepted as a guide for own exploration ....he was never recorded saying " Let Your Teacher Teach My Teaching ".........so why so many Buddhist monk claimed as Buddhist Teacher teaching Buddhism based on what they know? But soon after Mr Siddharta’s death and until today , there are millions of people with an ordinary mind , feeding on his information transforming into a knowledge , rituals , practices , creating into various culture / traditions and even benefited from it........calling themselves to be a Buddhist Teacher / Master with various title and recognition , even claiming to reach a high level of realization .....TEACHING Buddhism itself instead of being just a reporter......... . Mr Siddharta ‘s explanation perhaps is like a paintings on the wall and lets people explore it within themselves without any people trying to be smart and explaining something with their ordinary minds . Buddhist Teachers had transformed perhaps the greatest discovery of mankind into a factor causing human to continue suffering of confusion for thousands of years and perhaps even thousands more to come .....and now their afford is supported by another group of in formal studies known as Buddhist Scholar. If Buddhist Organization hold on text that said to be Mr Siddharta words as referral , then NO ONE HAVE THE RIGHT TO TEACH BUDDHISM ..... Mr Siddharta's explanation should be served as just a mere information for own exploration of own existence and now millions of people are taking advantage by teaching it ... they became the teacher instead of the "teaching" of Mr Siddharta . Buddhism perhaps NEVER was a form of Knowledge.…..So HOW COULD ANYONE TEACH IF BUDDHISM IS NOT A FORM OF KNOWLEDGE ?..... I am deeply concern of the way Buddhism is transforming . This has to be stopped . I have now moved from sharing my personal views into a more challenging role as to start a movement to spread awareness of Buddhism. This movement is named " AWAKENING TO BUDDHISM" with only one simple objective is to spread awareness to people that Buddhism is all about own exploration to the nature of own existence WITHOUT any interference from anyone with NO REFERRAL . Any information even from Mr Siddharta should be accepted as a mere information NOT even as a guide for own exploration WITHOUT any teaching , guidance or explanation from anyone . No teaching , no rituals , no worshipping , no referral , no guidance . Everyone is equal , Everyone is learning and no one is giving talks or teaching or guiding . For further explanation kindly email the undersigned . One Historian said “ If Buddha come back , He will see all he rejected now his follower put him in that place “. Please DO NOT be part of perhaps greatest misinterpretation of mankind . We must creates awareness and let people have the chance to explore themselves . What is teach to them is always a knowledge , what is explored perhaps will lead to realization and perhaps that is Mr Siddharta’s wish . If you are in same mind , PLEASE SHARE THIS as facebook had disabled our account many times and we believe this will happens again.USE EMAIL to contact us . Anyone could start this movement within their capacity holding on a common objective with a common movement brand name .No one is leading this movement . We attribute this noble movement to Mr Siddharta . If you are of same mind , kindly furnish us any update . We are serious and sincere in this movement . Thanks Ee Chuan Seng Malaysia. Hi, I have a doubt about the proof of the separability of the mind from the body: the fact that we can ear, see, taste etc in our dreams without using the body senses, couldn't it simply be related with the memories of the experiences using those body senses? For exemple, can a person, who was born blind, see in her dreams? If not, it appears that mind is dependent of the eyes!

It's nice that you can see yourself thinking this way. Meditation can help you. Sit for 10 minutes each day and focus on a being that you love (this is called metta meditation or loving kindness). Don't stop thinking about that feeling of love for the entire 10 minutes. Use a phone timer or something. Start doing small things like opening the door for people, don't lie, don't steal, remember your blessings. Have you killed you parents? Probably not, so you are not so negative. Try to do small things that are good each day and you will feel better. Try to think about the good in people, not the bad. Be satisfied with life as it is and things will change for the good. Before you go to sleep each night, think of 3 positive things you can do the next day.

Following is a suggestion from the book titled Ztingar - regarding where we come from, why we are here, who we are and to where we go and come back from... “I’d like to finish today’s lesson by trying to answer any questions that you may have,” declares a crackly, squeaky voice--the vibrant patterns flicker in perfect unison with the words. “How about you, Miss McPigstyle? . . . You look like you’ve got a pile of questions to ask!” “Hehehe. . . Yes I do Mister Gang-Gang!” she answers. “How do we know if we have good or bad karma?” “We can get some idea simply by looking at the general state of our life at any given moment . . . such as whether or not we’re truly happy,” answers the voice of Mr Gang-Gang cheerfully. “But because all Life is constantly changing for the better, the worse, or somewhere in-between, it’s never really possible to be certain, is it? . . . However, just as I’ve already mentioned, there is a way to help us control our karma and even change it, which I’m very much looking forward to sharing with you in the next few days. Thank you Miss McPigstyle. Now, Mister Bullcow, I can see by the keen look of enthusiasm on your face that you also have a question or two.” “Yes I do!” he replies in a rather deep sounding voice, “How does this all fit in with what you mentioned the other day about the little babies? . . . I mean to say, what could they have possibly ever done to make any bad deeds or karma as you call it?” “Well to answer that truthfully for you Mister Bullcow,” Mr Gang-Gang replies enthusiastically, “firstly I need to inform you that I personally believe we’re all the same age, but are born at different intervals . . . In other words that our lives don’t start when we’re born . . . nor end when we die.” “I don’t believe I quite get what you mean!” answers Mr Bullcow. “How in the world have you managed to come to that conclusion?” “By observing things as they truly are,” explains Mr Gang-Gang confidently, “anybody can do it if they’re willing to open up their minds and take a good, honest look around. The truth is, most things that appear to start and end don’t really start and end at all . . . they just move in and out of being present! Let’s take all of the four seasons, or a day and a night for instance. They don’t ever actually come to a halt and stop in themselves. . . The land simply revolves in and out of them over and over again. . . So, when everything’s said and done, there’s only ever been one single day . . . one night . . . one winter . . . one spring . . . one summer and one autumn . . . and since this is the way of nature and we’re all part of nature’s way . . . then it makes perfect sense to me that our lives follow along the same path.” “Strike me pink!” cries a dominant sounding voice from a long way off in the distance. “I ain’t nevar even heard o’ such a thing . . . are ya sure about all o’ this matey?” “As sure as I can be,” replies Mr Gang-Gang. “And just as sure as I am that Life itself has no beginning or end. Not only that, I also believe our bodies are small replicas of the land we stand upon and our spirits are small copies of the Universal Life Force.” “Hehehehehehe . . . for goodness, sake!” a female voice gasps with an incredulous laugh. “I’m being very serious!” says Mr Gang-Gang insistently, “quite serious indeed! . . . And the reason I believe this is once again a result of my observations over the years. For example, we have several layers of skin just like the Earth’s crust . . . feathers and hairs that grow like grass and trees upon the Earth’s surface . . . veins and arteries beneath our skin that act like underground rivers and streams that run beneath the Earth’s surface . . . flesh like soil and bone like rock. A great percentage of the Earth is water and liquid just like our body . . . and beneath the ground is a substance called lava, which is hot and red like our blood. . . Now and then the ground splits open and out spurts lava in a similar way to how our body bleeds whenever our skin breaks, or we grow lumps that can sometimes build up pressure and erupt in a similar way to how volcanic fire mountains do. We can also experience little tremors on our skin and sometimes even shake and tremble like the ground does. Our body has limitations that prevent it from jumping forwards or backwards in time . . . the same limitations that determine how long it will keep functioning before it wears out . . . after which it returns to the ground. From there it becomes nourishment to support the food chain that’s needed to sustain new life. . . Did any of you know that the Earth never grows any larger in content no matter how many things continuously live and die on it?” “Bloody hell!” blurts out another voice. “No, no I didn’t know that at all mate! . . . That’s flamin’ amazin’, ain’t it?” “It IS amazing!” agrees Mr Gang-Gang excitedly. “And it’s all to do with Nature’s incredible process of recycling matter. A very similar situation also applies to our spirit . . . except there’s a big difference . . . and that’s because our spirit is a copy of the great, Universal Life Force and therefore doesn’t share the same limitations as our body. For example . . . even though we can’t take our body back to when it was a baby, we are able to remember certain things and sometimes re-experience them as if they were happening right now. As a matter of fact, our imagination knows no boundaries. We can even go to places, do things and experience events in our mind that our body would never be able to physically endure.” “How absolutely fascinating!” says the voice belonging to Miss McPigstyle. “Whoever would have thought all that?” “What happens when we die then?” asks someone else. “Generally speaking . . . after each successive physical manifestation is completed and our body can no longer function for us,” explains Mr Gang-Gang, “our spirit simply separates from it and reverts back into the surrounding universal Life Force from which it came. There it will remain re-energizing itself until it’s time to return and recreate its next physical manifestation. In some respects, our life force is a bit like the water in the Ballah, or as some prefer to call it . . . the ocean. In other words, it’s forever coming and going.” “I see.” says the deeper voice. “Because our karma content is recorded within our Life Force, it doesn’t disintegrate with the body, but rather carries over from one physical existence to the next one, constantly determining what our future circumstances are going to be each time. This includes where and when we are born, the family we’re born into, the conditions we have to live under, the opportunities we do or do not receive and so on and so forth. It also determines our health and how well we cope with things during our journey through each successive physical manifestation. No matter when it is or what, who or where we are, it’s everything we think, say and do that’s continually shaping and reshaping our own present and future destiny. In other words, for better or for worse, we are each in complete control and therefore totally responsible for it ourselves. And this is also why we must be cautious when making assumptions, or when information is relayed to us from others . . . particularly when it’s about someone else. If we believe it without first verifying that it’s actually correct and it turns out to be untrue, we would automatically be as guilty of making the bad karma as the one who gave us the wrong information in the first place. It doesn’t matter how much good we’ve done, one bad enough deed could have the potential to seriously damage or even completely contaminate our hard-earned good fortune in an instant. It’s a possible outcome that can very easily happen to us in a similar way to how a raging fire can damage or destroy even the most beautiful of forests.”

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but why didn’t you say _please_ when you ordered the juice, and why didn’t you say _thank you_ (or at least nod or smile or something) when you received it? I just can’t imagine the Buddha wouldn’t have shown at least _some_ sign of appreciation in a similar situation. Secondly, while I believe in past lives (simply because I remember quite a few of mine, though even then I cannot be 100% certain), I don’t see how just because something exists now, it had to exist before, let alone always. Just because my cell phone exists today and existed yesterday, and even existed two days ago when I purchased it, doesn’t mean it had to exist a month ago, let alone always. Such reasoning is mere conjecture. Actually, the main reason I am convinced the mind exists independent of the body is not my memories but the near death experience I had four decades ago, where my mind was separated from my body and it couldn’t have been an illusion created by my brain simply because my brain was way too busy fighting for mere physical survival to create such an illusion. Especially since it never created anything even remotely close to that on any other occasion.

Sabrina Bourque Sure, the raw material always existed, but there is a difference between a raw material and something made out of it. Even the planet we live on is billions of years old, but there still was a time when the Earth did not exist, even if the atoms and molecules existed. Again, I personally am convinced we live many lives, I just don't think that particular argument is valid. As a matter of fact, I became a Buddhist (after twelve years in Catholic priesthood) because of my increased conviction of our past lives, but that particular argument would have never convinced me. I started remembering a number of my past lives, and found that extremely disturbing (as probably any Catholic priest would) and tried to suppress them, but they just wouldn't go away until I concluded it was more likely to be real than not. Plus, having worked as a psychologist (before the priesthood) with very young children convinced me they brought their personalities with them when they were born. Then it was only a matter of time, and in 1990 (at the age of forty) I left the priesthood and the Catholic Church and became a Buddhist.

Where is the proof for all these things Sir? Every religion has its own idea..but till date no one from this frame of existence(called body) has ever shown to this world that there is another existence, far beyond what we know as ourselves. trying to see the separation between mind and body is futile effort. Before even attempting that, first we ask ourselves what is mind. It requires lot of a courage and determination to pose this question to ourselves and find answers. More chances that we may end up nowhere. We will slowly understand that mind is this phenomenon, where continuously the past memories are recollected based on a stimulus(which can be either internal or external). But this stimulus and response cannot be separated. it is one unitary movement. Next, after we understand that mind is a collection of this stimulus and response, then we get more deeper and see where these things originate. We will stumble on this revelation that there is nothing called mind and if refer to these collection of thoughts(stimulus and response) as mind, then it is purely associated with body. Mind is associated with body. There is no other existence other than that.

ngkrish1 What faith are you associated with? It seems to me that you believe that there is no separation between mind and body. If that is the case then when we die we will cease to exist? Is that you point of view? Proof I have none but I have some inferential logic for you, how you came to this earth is it purely random. That some people are born into wealth and some people the moment they are born, they suffer until the end of their short lives... for me, karma and previous lives explain that in detail and is consistent as to why some people are born high and some people are born low.

What faith are you associated with? Answer: Actually, trying to get rid of any faiths Sir. I will drop dead clinically if i loose any faith/belief system. Not only me, any being. So it is my understanding, that i live with basic knowledge required for my day-to-day living, so that people don't categorize me as insane. When we die Will we cease to exists? Answer: Are we living now? (Please don't come to pre-conceived judgement about me ..having identity crisis etc..) What is the proof that we have life now? Let us see the possible answers Ans1 : I breathe therefore i live. Ans2: I think therefore I live. Ans3: I have the ability to comprehend and respond to stimulus thru my senses. Just think about it. All the above are mere knowledge sitting in some part of your brain and comes to your help, whenever need it. In this case, you are calling those memories to ascertain, you LIVE. That is it Sir.. THERE IS NO WAY WITHOUT THE HELP OF KNOWLEDGE CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE LIVING. KNOWLEDGE IS NURTURED BY YOUR EXPERIENCE. LIVING ITSELF IS A BIG QUESTION MARK SIR...FORGET ABOUT DEATH....
