My introduction to kettlebells was Pavel and his Simple & Sinister program, so naturally I was drawn to his style and I never found myself interested in the sport style, but nevertheless I found this interview fascinating, especially his view of the history of kettlebells and the divergence of the kettlebells as sport and kettlebells as a general fitness tool, and how that changes approach to technique and priorities.
@lebe-stark3 жыл бұрын
Pavel's approach has merit and we've also grown fond of the S&S and hardstyle practices. I think it's great to see both worlds and choose the best of them; thanks for sharing! - Gregory

If you look through Pavel's first KB book, you can see how it very different from hardstyle. He even says he doesn't care how you synchronize your breath etc. There are sample GS programs he translated from the home country. I think even KB jump squats. It's cheap, you might give it a look.

My understand, from his writing, is that the hardstyle was created in the army to go with the style of karate that was being taught. The kettlebells he brought from Russia were a 24 and 32 kg bells and were not the same size like competition bells. Clearly the competition bells are all the same size and that’s a relatively new concept. When did competition start, in the 60’s I believe? I think the gs style probably evolved with the sport. It’s an interesting question but clearly 2 different styles for 2 different purpose. Awesome interview so far.
@jonathanfrost9443 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, he never claimed he “created” it only refined it. I think gs is like someone really learning the craft of gs, and hardstyle is just a means to an end.
@jonathanfrost9443 жыл бұрын
This is a brilliant conversation. So many great things in here. It's very interesting to compare GS and hardstyle. Technically they are very different but really have a lot in common. Pavel has basically reduced his program to the perfection of two exercises, the swing and get up. And GS is basically the mastery of 3 exercises. I really appreciate you letting him analyze your technique for all of us. He's amazing. It's really awesome to see his approach and how long a "professional" will train to get their results, yet so many of us expect things overnight. I will watch this many times. Well done, and thank you Gregory!
@lebe-stark3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your inputs Jonathan! I do get the vibe that he somehow "claims" that this is the original style from Russia. I may be wrong though! "Many of us except things overnight" -> you hit the nail on the head with this one! - Gregory

Dan John would say there is no reason to do a TGU with a 32kg bell. The risk of injury out weighs the benefit of the movement. Be he does loaded carries all the time, even to this day.

To be good at anything, you must have some time to be obsessive about it. Ask any Michelin Star chef... I like to thank you for doing some obsessing for me. It really takes a load off! 🙏 as for "Pavel T.".. yes, he invented "Hard Style", but so much more the honors for having achieved that! I do classical Osteopathy, and it was definitely invented by one crazy Brit, but he claimed he had it from his Mentor.. It doesn't matter. A good thing is a good thing, no matter how it came about. 😎

@@lebe-stark may I ask what brand of Kettelbells you use? I like them a lot.
I don’t understand why he has this bone to pick about Pavel. Just accept the fact he brought KB to the mainstream and that should be appreciated. It’s ok if one thinks sports style is better. Leave it at that
