Honestly, one of Mojang's biggest problems when making new updates is the need to add tons of stuff. There is such a thing as content overload. As others have pointed out, there's no real sense of progression. Right now, there are only 3 structures that need to be visited for some sort of progression - Nether Fortresses to fight Blazes to get Blaze Rods to make the Eyes of Ender, the Strongholds which have the End Portal, and now the Piglin Bastions to get at least 1 Netherite Upgrade template. Worse still, a lot of stuff gets added to the game that completely obsoletes other stuff and systems that have been present in the game for a very long time. The Villager Trading overhaul in 1.14 wound up completely obsoleting the Enchantment Table - it's far easier (albeit time consuming depending on your luck) to get fully enchanted diamond gear by trading with Villagers than to have to constantly roll the dice with the Enchanting Table. Firework boosting Elytra effectively obsoleted all other forms of transportation in the game. What Mojang really needs to do, IMO, is not focus on adding new stuff for the sake of adding new stuff. They need to take the time to look at some of these older systems in the game that haven't been touched for years and that have been obsoleted by newer additions and find ways to rebalance them. That will work wonders for the game's longevity far more than a big update of varying quantities of new stuff for the sake of new stuff each year.

I think the main reason it feels underwhelming is because they're continuing with the 1.20 philosophy of NOT showing us any of their plans until they're already basically finished and ready to go... They don't want a repeat of the Birch Forest incident, but the result is that Minecraft LIVE doesn't have the hype or impact that it used to have. Literally an hour long broadcast of mostly filler with the last 15 minutes talking about only 2 major features.

I feel like part of the problem is not anouncing the theme as you said, plus not saying anything about further plans. I understand that due to the birch forest and fireflies they are hesitant to show concept art but I feel like that has an easy fix. They could anounce the things that are going to be in the game in the coming weeks as fixed additions, nearly completed. And THEN show concept art by saying "here is some ideas we have been toying with, some of which will NOT make it into the game, please tell us which ones you like the most and why". Or maybe show some things that are not 100% set in stone but probably are, with a similar disclaimer. Then people would get a better idea of what the updates are about and mojang would be able to get better feedback on what to add into the game based on reactions to specific concept art. The issue from the start has always been communication. The same happens with the mob vote, where information that isn't clear enough sways the vote. The glow squid was thought to hypnotize and work as a moving light source. The sniffer came with plantS, which made people think of at least 3, hoping for 4-5 with one having some unique mechanic like the dripleaf, but Mojang went with the bare minimum of 2. The claims made in the Mob Vote videos weren't fake, just misleading, how many mobs had extra details that they didn't tell us that would have changed the vote? CRAB How many blocks of reach does the crab claw have? Does it also work when breaking blocks? In PVP? Does it have durability? ARMADILLO How many armors can we make with the scute? Will armor trims work on it? Will enchantments work on it? Will it also come with a change to wolf AI so they dont die from fall damage or lava as easily? PENGUIN Will it work like Dolphin's grace? Will they change chunk generation to be better optimized if that is the case? What use will the penguin have after you get elytra besides looking pretty? Getting all the answers to this could DRAMATICALLY change the mob vote, or maybe not.

I feels like the trial chambers feels a little random and out of place. It has a weird block palete that personal feel a little random. (Although i do love the new copper blocks). they should lean more into the steampunk and tinker aspect with new mobs themes around it. Although I would of much prefered them to of redesign the jungle and desert temples and turned them into more of a dungeon like structure with more themed mobs and mechanisms then this.

I think this might be the new combat update. Jeb made experimental combat snapshots a few years back and stopped releasing them later. Maybe he stopped cuz he was too focused on caves and cliffs and he is finally going to implement the new combat system into the game. Remember they said it is supposed to be focused on combat and other things. Combat snapshots are Spam clicking allowed with cool down being decreased a lot. Attacking by spamming and by using cool down mechanic have same damage, but features like sweeping edge can only be used if u cool down. U can only get sweeping edge effect with the sweeping edge enchant. Swords have more reach. New axe enchant called cleaving, basically sharpness for axes, but also deals higher shield cool down Bows shake the more you aim. Im not sure about this one but i think banners on shields offer some sort of protection.

The copper golden was a neat idea, beicase ge could press buttons, and Mojang could program him based on how much oxidation is in the button. Example: He presses the oxidized button last, then the normal copper button first. We could use another golem variant.

I liked more when there was a clear theme of the update like the nether , aquatic , villager ,caves ... . i think the new features are amazing but it feels way less exiting then when there was a clear announcement of what the update is gonna be . i hope mojang is going to announce more features and tell the updates name directly . i get the think with the ability that the community can tell mojang what to change or add with the features but they also could do this if the updates would have a clear theme and the community could tell them things they don't like or want to get changed . for accsample if their was an end update , the community does not like that the trees in the end are yellow and that they dont have a wines mojang could easily fix that . I feal like mojang is scared of making the mistake again they did back in 1.17s announcement, when they were announcing to many unfinished features early and causing the update to be split into 4 updates in total. I hope Mojang will build up there courage again and stop making nameless updates and finally start announcing updates like they used to back in 1.13 , 1.14 and 1.16 showing of enough to build hipe but also not showing to much to not overwelm the team.

What Minecraft really needs is a proper progression system, like Terraria. It's no use if they add new structures, blocks, mobs, biomes, whatever, if they all feel like it's just a bunch of pieces that do not add together in any way. Yes they add a new structure, and it's going to be the same structure over and over again. The first one you encounter will be very fun. Then the second one will be fun, but it's the same structure you have already encountered. The third one will be just fun enough. And every other instance of this structure will be the same as the previous ones, until you get bored of them. At that point you will find one and say "meh... it's just another chamber". Minecraft needs a progression system that makes all these structures, all of the game biomes, all of the bosses, and all of its tools and weapons relevant, so that going through the game actually feels rewarding and thrilling. So far, only the nether fortresses are required. And the stronghold, but you can just skip to the end portal so you don't really have to do anything inside. The game is boring as it is now, for us who have been playing for well over a decade now.

@@timohara7717 but diamonds can also be obtained through just mining or many other structure chests. The Trial Chambers need to have something that can't be obtained anywhere else for them to be worth it, and even then it might become annoying to search the underground for one if you need the special item. Something they could do (although this is a bit extreme of an example) is add an item to the eye of ender recipe that can only be found in Trial Chambers, or a special "key" that completes the end portal. These would make the Trial Chambers feel actually important. Finally, they could have a sort of "copper compass" that points to the Trial Chambers so you can more easily find them if you want to.

I wish they would make a Redstone generator so that we can then have Redstone furnaces. You feed the Redstone generators Redstone dust and it powers Redstone furnaces through copper wire and that you can also have Redstone power banks where the generators would charge the power banks for later power usage. It would be separate from Redstone mechanics.

The game is either running on an ancient engine or a very buggy engine. the code has to work with the old janky code and changing the old janky code will break numerous things in the game that may or may not be anticipated. this is why the updates are smaller and slower, because they're slowly going through the old janky engine and fixing all the issues it creates. once that is fixed and up to date, I think they will then be more willing to commit to larger more impressive updates like they used to do.

Honestly armor for Cats would be awesome. That and the ability for pet armor to have all the enchantments the player can have. Because Creepers blowing up your pets is not a great experience and I’d like blast protection on my Horses.
