first you go over the mine dump with a good gold metal detector. i have mined high grade gold ore by scanning a mine with metal detectors. and drilling and blasting hot spots. dirty mud covered gold ore is hard to see the gold in it. so in a high grade mine many small pieces went out to the dumps with the waste muck. also at many small underground mines they piled ore near the portal ready to be shipped to a mill. when they got around 10 tons they shipped. at the start of WW2 The mines and mill were shut down and to this day these ready to ship ore piles still set there unless someone like me found and hauled them off to mill. i at 73 years old am still finding these piles and if my metal detector find pieced of gold in them i call a old miner friend and we go and load them in a pickup and haul them to his backyard mill. the first one i found 50 years ago ran 4.5 oz per ton.

The quartz pieces with mineral inclusions that you are throwing back down on the ground at the end of this video would make great cabochon stones. Keep us rock-hounds out here in your thoughts and sell us some of these. Can I be the first in line?
@catch22frubert

I'm sure a lot of that stuff is super common to them, and they probably throw stuff on the ground that most of us barely ever get to see or find. They have plenty of really good claims that have an embarrassment of riches as far as minerals and quartz goes. They live in an area where you can literally pick up solid hunks of chalcopyrite and quartz off the side of the road. VMS deposits are abundant on the Vancouver Island and the West Coast of Canada . They just live in a really great place. Personally, I would love to live there in the warm months of the year, and move south into California or something for the Winter, if I had enough money to do so.

Obviously, finding the highest grade gold deposits is priority #1 because of how valuable gold is, but my personal favorite finds are still pure Crystals of Azurite and Malachite. I certainly wouldn't scoff at a beautiful hunk of quartz with lots of gold crystals running through it, but the deep electric blue of the Azurite crystals is such an amazing sight. So rare to see that color in nature. Not many things produce such a vibrant blue like the Azurite does. The Malachite crystals are amazing too. They have an awesome color in its own right, and both are rare finds, but the Azurite is absolutely my personal favorite. I hope to be able to find a chunk of all 3 for myself one day, even if they are small ones.

In Northern BC I came across some dark red heavily oxidized quartz I was hunting nephrite so I only took a few samples when I crushed/panned it had some nice fine gold but its not worth the effort as its in the mountains near the Omineca River . Only problem with these areas in BC some are abundant with resources but take a good investment to setup operations . Really enjoy your videos thank you for sharing your adventures.

So how would one go about this🤔electrowin the zinc to reduce volume. Then go after the copper/gold?
@karhukivi
@karhukivi 2 жыл бұрын
Crushing, roasting, flotation to produce concentrates of Pb, Cu and Zn. Then cyanide leach of the pyrite material to extract the gold. The concentrates are sold to a smelter, but if there is arsenic or mercury, they apply penalties to your concentrates. The electrowinning is done by the smelter companies.

So this material was left behind in the dump because it was too difficult to separate the copper from the zinc back in the day? Or too costly? How about today? Is it easier to do with todays technology or is it just more valuable so the profit margins are bigger? Please elaborate.
@davidhobbs5679
@davidhobbs5679 2 жыл бұрын
Don't know about how they used to do it back in the day but nowa days ots really straight forward. The metallurgist do try and keep things optimal but it's not really a problem. Also Zinc was not really that valuable until the 1980s if I remember correctly, so I wouldn't be surprised if the miners just ignored ore that had too mutch of it. It's seen alot with old timer things, gold is a classic example, on North Queensland (aus) there is a backlog of assays from labs because old mines are being found and retested with as much as 7 to 10 times profitable grades.
@911mining
@911mining 2 жыл бұрын
They didn't mine zinc back then, they were charged smelter fees if there was zinc basically rendering a lot not worthwhile so it was tossed in dumps. They really only took the chalcopyrite based ore with nothing else in it. They also high graded to maintain shipping grades of 5% copper or more with no zinc content so anything under 5% copper was discarded or anything with high zinc even if there was good copper was tossed. The reserves left in the mines is insane and likely to be 2x more than is recorded.

Can you make a video of how to process the material?
@americanadventureoutdoors4213

Lot of that was left behind as it was to hard to process. Hard of the mills ,, difficult and expensive to process and extract the metals .
@911mining
@911mining 2 жыл бұрын
The issue here was 1% copper was equal to 15% zinc. So all the zinc ore was tossed regardless of what else was in it, zinc was considered an impurity.

Gold runs with the chalcopyrite. Mines produced well over a million grams of gold. Not counting, silver, copper, lead, zinc. I don't think people understand only about 0.000001% of golds found as giant free milling gold chunks. 😉

@@911mining ok and you mentioned the word gold absolutely 0 times in the whole video. any average person who clicks on it, they aren't going to know that with what you say in your video. which is obviously what your aiming for uisng a click bait title like you did, if you want rock ppl, wich you must assume by leaving me a comment like that, use a title saying you found chalcopyrite and put in brackets (contains gold) there now you have a proper title. because they absolutely did NOT leave "high grade gold ore" everywhere in this video AT ALL. Nor is the word gold even said in this whole video. Raw gold ore is measured in grams per ton and if your saying its .0000000000% gold it is most DEFINTEILY no where fucking near "high grade" more like "they left ore everywhere and if i collected a few ton of this i MIGHT get a gram of gold, but it will be worth -$10000 after i buy the machinery and chemicals needed to do so" Literally every niche on youtube is completely dog water these days because of people like you. cant even tell what im about to watch these days.

Cool video- as you've said in other vids your job generally is to locate & assess deposits. In your opinion, what is the likelihood of mining ever returning to some of these areas if only to reclaim waste piles? I know ultimately it's about profitability, but was curious about your opinion.

It's not just the iron oxidising is it? Idk I'm not an expert but in the area I'm currently in there's alot of red oxidisation in the quartz and soil from the iron. When you say it is 'high grade mineral' are you actually saying it hold good gold or just minerals in general?
@911mining
@911mining 2 жыл бұрын
The ore pictured is a chalcopyrite based ore in a gangue of quartz. The chalcopyrite holds gold at 19.98g/ton and silver at 174g/ton and obviously with chalcopyrite you have copper which was about 11%. So high grade mineral but based on the gold alone it would be considered high grade. I'd imagine we have samples up to double those grades based on historic work.

When you have done a ton of geochemical work in a specific area you can sort of judge average grades of a mineralized system, deposit or dump. While grades change you can determine based on mineral make up what it would be roughly. Then again there's always surprises.
