The mini modular is back baby! And today, I wanted to talk about the 3 most important things to me when it comes to designing a minimal modular system. Most important that isn't even in the video is having a goal for your sound! With that in mind, I love using my mini modular system for basslines! Taking some Inspo from my older videos I refined the eurorack setup for my tastes today and I'm super happy with it! Let me know what you think.

Great tips! Send two Running Order trigger channels into Mimetic X & Y through a mute switch. When muted you get the 16-step pattern via a clock into N. Unmute Ch 1 for a new variation of the pattern. Unmute 2 for another. Unmute both! As you define the RO patterns to be longer and more complex, the variations become more random. Mute both to return to the original pattern. This is a permanent setup in my modular now.

This kind of sequencing technique is why I love modular! I normally route the input of Scales through Navigator, so I can scale the cv with the knob and offset it with the fader. They're a powerful duo that will probably never leave my case :)

Been trying to get my modular set up actually working in my studio but my problem was i just bought random modules that looked cool in other videos i saw, I've come to realize I actually need to design a synth with my modules or else I will never get results that I want, and honestly probably never touch it. What I think i really should do, is save up like $3000 and just build a whole new modular box . This small set up is killer, this might actually work for me.

I love using Scales the same way you do! One fun trick is to turn off every note of the scale other than the root. Jam a bit on the cool pattern. Then add the octave. Then maybe the 5th, etc. Just add/swap notes to get a build up/down of that part. Pair that with a second voice that has two different sequencers running with a dif pattern in each. Then manually or modulate switching which seq gets sent to the second voice (or occasionally both!). Killer variations off minimal patterns.

I have the same Palette 62 case. I got 24x 2HP Brand modules and a drum sequencer in the 1U slot. I use it as a modular drum machine crafting my kick, snare & hat patches scratch from modulating osc, noise & fed back filters. It's bliss, perfect for percussion, I still use a vintage mono for bass and leads tho_ the 2Hp modules aren't exactly knob turners or "performance" synths modules.

You've certainly got a lot of mileage out of that tiny case! Scales is a great module to have for its hands-on controls. (Plus it looks cool in black panel). There are so many good sequencer modules that incorporate randomness at different levels but I really enjoy using the Qu-Bit Bloom fractal sequencer. Also I always shout-out the Acid Rain Maestro whenever I see it! It does take up space in a small case like that, but it's totally worth it for all the modulation that it's capable of.

That's a great combo for basslines but it's also very expensive. Just the steppy, memetic and scales is going to cost several hundred dollars and that's not counting a sound source, modulation, outputs, or case. Does anyone know if I can remove notes from a scale with a uscale II or can that only be done with scales?

It was on the previous video too. But, I only hear it with my IEMs or AriPod Pros. Otherwise great to get insight in separating out the parts of the sequence so you can change one at a time, and keep each thing 'quantized-random'. Gives things structure, but, some freedom without getting out of control. Not exactly Heinbach here😝

I will never understand why is that urge to make synths sound "musical"... the house, trance and techno heads often forget where the music they create is coming from and why. If you want to play musical sounds go get a workstation with samples or learn how to play some classic instruments. Synthesis is awesome as it is because you can create and explore sound.
