I played cowboy chords on guitar for 15 years and was clueless about music theory because there was no internet in those days. During Covid, I purchased a keyboard because what else was I going to do, and when I started to apply the piano theory to guitar, the whole universe opened up. I seem to discover more each week now than all those years put together Pity I'm nearly 70 now. If I knew then what I know now.......

I love this. Some things just make sense visually on the keyboard like the C7/Em example. I also found it a great place to gain insight in modes. Starting from C to C the black keys show you the Ionian TTSTTTS at a glance. Now look at D to D and see Phrygian TSTTTST and so on.

Most of us learn how to play keyboard because we want to know the music theory in a structured manner that is hard to visualize in guitar. The keyboard also provide nice timbre sounds, rhythm patterns and tempo that is embedded within the instrument. An excellent instrument if you are playing chord or melody together as a soloist performer. The only thing I like about playing the guitar is we can strum the chords percussively like the drummer compared to comping chords on the keyboard. I agree with you, "Keyboard" is a good second instrument to pick up to improve your knowledge of music playing. It is also good if we can learn some wind instruments to further expand the horizon of learning and understanding music played in a different manner as they they sound. Thanks for sharing the minimum requirements what you need to know about piano playing shared in this video.

My wife won’t let me buy anymore musical instruments. I’ll have to buy a kids piano and say it’s for the grandkids.

I’ve been told that I play piano like a guitar player. I guess it was from one of those smarmy elitists that said that. So I showed them. I stopped using a pick when I played my piano.

You are a hair below 500K subscribers (499), the big half million. If I hit subscribe, does it push you to that level I wonder?...didn't work. You've annoyed me for years, but I have picked up some useful tips (from you, but others as well) going from no skill to now being quite fluent with caged, triads and their inversions within the caged grid, spread triads etc. etc. and being able to improvise musically with that "grid".. I still refer to you when talking to my family as "that guitar youtuber I love to hate", though I don't hate you:), not really anyway.
