Union Pacific's MIR Job, The Minneapolis Industrial Railway, is an interesting operation which runs on the former Minnesota Western Railway. This local runs a few days a week, and rates older EMD power. In this video, we'll be treated to a FRESH looking, and now rare SD60.
We'll chase a few different MIR Jobs, all with UP 2213 leading the way. Shot over two months, we'll see this train traverse the route as it heads back to East Minneapolis Yard. Along the way, we'll see cars rock and sway on jointed rail, switching out cars, and see the train from the sky! With Union Pacific purging a number of SD60s, seeing this type of power was a sight!

nice vid of my old employer... also @ 11:28... WOW i remember when those ATSF C-44s were SHOWROOM NEW... i worked for the CNW out of butler yd in milwaukee back in 1993... around 1994 a Wisconsin electric power plant in oak creek wisconsin was getting coal from a place called york canyon in new Mexico off the santa fe (pentrex did a video back then of them lifting the train in two sections over raton pass)... they would show up in milwaukee for servicing after the crew spotted the coal... i remember seeing them at the diesel ramp getting fuel and sand for the return trip back to the mine... brand spanking shiny new to... nice to that they are still in service but what a shame to see them now running around like two neglected step kids living under the back porch

It would have been quite a neat time to be seeing fresh Santa Fe power back in that timeframe! Its sad to see how worn they've become over the years. :/ Thanks for the comment, and watching!

Thats a pretty tight turn when you can see the axle turn., and he's just barnstorming his wayh through that light rail with that 6 axle brick. Kept waiting for the outside rail to go flying out from under it, lol.

Along the old Luce line, which has a lot of history behind it! It’s good to see at least part of the line between Plymouth and Minneapolis still in use while the rest of it, of course was abandoned and turned into a state as far as Cosmos.

We can think this huge industrial park in Plymouth for keeping what is left of the old Luce Line electric railway tracks still in use. Most of the industrial trackage has been abandoned, except for what you see in this video.

Hmph. Last summer my wife and I were riding on the bike path next to the track and a UP GP60 went by. Kind of gutsy, not to mention a bit of overkill, to send an SD60 down this track, which is very soft over the marshes. In 1976 I was caddying at Golden Valley Country Club and the morning train to Plymouth came through the middle of the course, which they still do. What do you think happens when a golfer sees a moving target like a train? And these were supposed to be the respectable, leading lights of our communities! Fine examples to us young caddies! More than a few bucks changed hands as you can imagine. “Hold my beer son while I peg the door on that CNW boxcar for a five.”

Happy you came across this video! This job currently runs on Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It starts over at Union Pacific's East Mpls Yard at 0700, and they usually get over to Plymouth around 10 to 11am. They'll switch a number of customers out, and start heading back about an hour or so after they get there. Hope this helps!

Very cool! What era of the MN&S do you model? I have another video in the works featuring the MN&S working its way south. The tank car came from Lube-Tech in Golden Valley; they typically work them on the way west. The flats came from Olympic Steel Plate in Plymouth. I do not recall where the bulkhead came from though.
